Carrot Lemon Cake & a cappuccino
    Patrice B.

Great place to grab some coffee and a lovely cake! I kinda accidentally stumbled upon this gem when looking for a quick "breakfast" before heading home. The cappuccino was great, the cake - Carrot Lemon Cake - was amazing. Will be back next time I'm in town

Wonderful coffee shop that's conveniently close to the U-Bahn Schottentor station and the University of Vienna! They're almost always crowded/busy so it might be a challenge to claim a table for yourself. I've come here earlier in the day and I didn't have a problem securing a spot. The cortado and cappuccino are strong, thus enabling me to power through all the readings that I do. Also important to note -- wifi is free, fast, tried, true, & tested. The workers have all been friendly so far. If you don't speak German, don't worry - their English is also quite good! Their pastries always look so freaking tempting. They have cheesecakes, banana bread, all sorts of Austrian cakes. One day I shall indulge and treat myself. My only gripe with this coffee shop is the fact that because they're always busy, conversations can be super distracting if you've come here to focus on your studies. Don't forget the headphones. Looking forward to collecting more stamps on my stamp card for a free cup of coffee! Score.

INDIE coffee ARRIVED in VIENNA. Vienna is famous for historic coffee houses with classic Viennese Kaffee. Jonas Reindl is 21st century fair trad single origin organic and very extracted. Artisan baristas can prepare macchiatos, cortados, cold brews and pour overs. Fresh roasted. Sit inside or out. Sandwiches wine/kombucha and excellent chai! The coffee is awesome. I've never found this kind of cafe in Austria before.

You can say what you want about Viennese Coffee House Culture (VCHC) but it's not all about imperial flair, though it's much about it. And in contrast to the aristocratic atmosphere of a Konzert Café Schwarzenberg for instance here we find ourselves in this lovely, cosy, WiFi supported coffee shop called Café Jonas Reindl, named after the tram hub Jonas-Reindl (at Schottentor) to honor Franz Josef Jonas, a Viennese mayor and later Bundespräsident (president) of Austria. As you can see in the picture above (and good observers also recognize me in the photo) this Café has plenty of sunshine all-day long until the evening hours (until the Café closes Monday to Friday at 19:30 / 7:30 pm and Saturday's at 21:30 / 9:30 pm) and through the whole year due to its convenient location at Sigmund-Freud-Park right next to the University of Vienna, Vienna's main University, established in 1365, what makes it one of the oldest Universities in the world. Also in the grey and gloomy winter months Vienna has also its fair share of this sunny location can be a true life-savior. The patio is ideal to collect all the sun Vienna has to offer. Inside Café Jonas Reindl it feels a bit like being at Starbucks but Café Jonas Reindl's prices are much more reasonable. You order your choice at the counter and soon after the very friendly staff brings your order to your table. And to your delicious coffee you get also a glass of water to keep everything in balance if you know what I mean, since water is healthy and it's the most healthy you can get in any coffee shop. Above it catches your eye in no time that my cappuccino comes from heart. The coffee is creamy as the poppy-seed cake is fluffy. Both are super delicious. With Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann

My fav coffee shop in Vienna so far, but it's small and finding a place to sit is hard. Very cozy and the vibes are awesome. Lots and lots of delicious cakes and the espresso is yummy. Love that they have a stamp card too!

One of the pioneers of the Third wave of coffee in Vienna and a welcome break from the Viennese style coffee places as these guys actually serve decent coffee. This is conveniently located close to the university and that coupled with free wifi and a relaxed attitude towards people sitting long with laptops makes it packed with students. The coffee here's great compared to the average cup of coffee available and there's a selection of beans to select between so they clearly take their coffee seriously. My four star rating is also related to the local comparisons so while the coffee is not world class it is good. The baristas are skilled albeit I tend to agree with some other reviewers that the service is not exactly warm and friendly but I am also not sure if that was a language issue more than anything else. The environment is ok but they do somehow manage to get more of a Starbucks feel than an independently owned cafe.

Stopped here to meet up with a student, and it was the perfect place to do so! I had a slice of cake and a single-shot cappuccino, and they went SO well together. The ambience is not too loud, and all the earthy colors made it relaxing. We stayed there for two hours just chatting and probably would have stayed longer if it hadn't closed. Check it out!

One of our favorite spots in Vienna! And, they have oat milk-- a must try for any coffee lover in Vienna!! One of the best coffee shops we visited while traveling through Germany/Austria/Switzerland!

Awesome modern coffee house, close to the inner city and University of Vienna that's not touristy.

Every time I come back to visit my family in Vienna, I'm looking for a cool modern coffee place that also offers a pretty decent-speed-wifi. Furthermore, I'm looking for a place where people actually also work with their laptops for hours and where I can also get pretty decent coffee. This place has got it all and more!! It's my new favorite place to come and work when staying in Austria for a few weeks. The staff is not only friendly but they also got a rocking cold brew and yummy pastries/cakes as well as sandwiches. Definitely give this place a try when you're in the are. You'll barely ever find tourists here and I like the low-key atmosphere of the place,

    Sakkorn J.

This place is not great for only coffee lover. They also offer you tea, soft drinks, beer and wine. The location is perfectly situated, not far from Stephanplatz and you can have a nice view of Votivkirche.

Amazing coffee, tasty cakes, nice staff, and the interior style is on point. It can get crowded sometimes but it's worth a little wait.

The building is very elegant and classical, really enjoyed the atmosphere as walking in, we sat down at a corner next to the window and could not wait to try out the coffee and pastries here. We got Cafe Central Kafee and Maria Therasia for coffee and shared one Viennese Apple Strudel. The coffee is so smooth and with the added liquor, the fragrance is amazing!!! No question, this is the BEST Apple strudel I've tasted, crunchy texture for the outside crust and the filling is full of fruity flavors. We spent about a bit more than an hour there and that was the most relaxing, appreciating and beautiful moment among this Europe trip.

Well known for being a beautiful and historic cafe established 1876 frequented by the likes of famous names like Trotsky and Freud, this traditional Viennese coffeehouse and cafe is a popular tourist destination. Having walked by around 7:30pm the prior evening and seeing a line of about 15 people outside, the next morning arriving around 9am the line was about 15 minutes without reservations. Upon entering the inside is beautiful, cavernous domed ceilings, chandeliers and a very classic bistro vibe. Enough seating for probably 150 customers, quite large inside, and about two-thirds full. That's when I realized the line outside was more for show, which at some places I get because staffing might be hard and they want to ramp up the pacing between breakfast and lunch services. In a place like this it seems more like a marketing technique to create hype, which kinda annoyed me--it's not respectful of customers' time. It took a while maybe 10 minutes for a staff member to pass menus, then another 10 minutes for him to come back and check in. What I'll say is he was swift to answer our questions and knew the menu well. In general service felt lacking though, after eating it took quite a long time to get our server's attention again to get the check. For breakfast I was a little surprised by the prices for the food offered, on the high side. While the vegan spreads were very good, from the menu it wasn't clear that it was actually vegan cream cheese that was the base of the spreads. Unfortunately the rest of the food was meh, €14.50 for a small croissant (not especially good), a plain roll, a boiled egg and latte, with a pat of butter and jam. Would I come back? Maybe to try a couple of their baked pastries and dessert, but not for breakfast. For more info: https://cafecentral.wien/en/

We were directed to go upstairs and found an open seat in no time at all. Just passing by all the display cases filled with desserts and pastries triggered the cravings. We did a quick menu perusal but really knew that we wanted to try the kaiserschmarrn which was a traditional Austrian dessert made up torn up pancakes, served with a plum compote and dusted with powdered sugar. It was light, had a nice caramelized flavor from browning in the pan and little pops of more sweetness from the raisins. It was so delicious that we came back the next day for more but shortcut the line and got it to go from the takeaway window. Same kaiserschmarrn but around 3 Euros cheaper for a larger serving. After eating we wanted around the restaurant and towards the back you can see just how the cooks juggled making many pans of Kaiserschmarrn at the same time. Yes it's a bit pricey but so tasty to try at least once.
