I thought it was mostly another cold sub place (which they have). Didn't realize steak is their thing. They do it well. You really can't get this quality of meat at other fast food spots. Had a footlong classic (steak, onions, cheese, mayo, + shredded lettuce). Was delicious. The meat tastes fresher and juicier than Subway. The bread/meat ratio was good. Came out quick. Stayed hot on a 20-minute drive home. FWIW, the seating/ambience is uninspiring. Seems pricey at over $15, but I definitely enjoyed the sub. I'm disappointed to write this, as I've been to this location before, but my most recent experience was extremely unprofessional. While attempting to pay for a sandwich, my card did not process when I tapped it. I calmly stated that I wasn't sure what went wrong. An employee named Crystal, who was not directly assisting me, addressed me loudly from behind the counter and said, "Don't break my machine now. They're brand new." This was said in front of other customers and felt accusatory and unnecessary. When I expressed that the comment was inappropriate, the situation escalated. She stated publicly that I "always bring the same bad energy," which was unprovoked and inaccurate. We were there to order food and were in a hurry, not causing any disruption. Because of the tone and public nature of the interaction, I decided I no longer wanted to dine in and asked to take the food to go. Her response was, "Good." When I stated that she was being rudense continued to make personal comments rather than de-escalating. As we were leaving, she smirked and said, "Here, thank you," in a clearly sarcastic manner. The fries were ice cold and soggy. The Reuben needed help. I put everything in the oven and voila I turned it around. I loved the skinny crispy fries. They did crisp right up in the oven yay! I live down the street from John Smiths. It's my go-to sandwich place especially when I'm pressed for time. I've been a customer since they opened. Today I ordered a large tuna sub, no fixings, just tuna. When I arrived home and opened the sandwich I discovered that the tuna portion was spread thinly like butter. Just a thin layer of tuna. It was disappointing and I was still hungry after consuming this 12" roll with tuna paste. The sandwich was $13.00. Look, I understand that the restaurant business is particularly hard pressed recently. Costs. Help. Rent. I also note that the lunchtime crew included no one I recognized. Publix makes a tune sub that's robust, fulsome, dare I say, beefy. Their rolls aren't soggy and they offer a wide variety of fresh rolls. We were riding through West Palm Beach trying to decide where to eat when we came across Jon Smith Subs. Everyone was masked and socially distant during the pandemic so no worries on that end. Everyone was extremely nice and we notified them that we have never been there before. He mentioned all the popular items that are sold such as the Steak Bomb but we ended up going with the 6" Spicy Cajun Steak sub on white bread everything on it and Robert got the Chicken Teriyaki sub with extra sauce. We chose to eat at the airport to watch the planes and we were so excited to see how soft the bread was and the quality of meat was amazing. I wanna start with the fact that I usually eat at this location because it is nearby. The little cook lady is amazing and makes great steak bombs. My 1 star doesn't come from the food, however, it comes from the obnoxious and know-it-all manager there. His name is Aaron. About a 6' white guy with blonde short hair and muscular. I asked him a simple question in a normal manner which was "why they didn't have a value drink?" He proceeded to treat me like some A-hole and went off on this extremely long rant about how they lose all their money on steak bombs and only make money on drinks which is complete bulls***. If you know anything about the food service, it's a business and food costs typically don't go above 40%. They don't lose all their money on steak bombs or I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be in business considering they primarily promote their steak subs. Aaron started his response with "because that's where we make all our money and steak is where we lose all our money." Not exactly the information a customer tends to care about. The impression I got from him repeating what he was saying in different ways was that he was either trying to assert some kind of comprehensive steak bomb financial knowledge in a dominant fashion or he didn't know how to answer simple questions respectfully. He also had this tone in his voice that was obnoxious the entire time he was speaking. Just the way he spoke to a customer, as I said before, was very unprofessional. I really didn't like it considering I visit this location multiple times a month and I've only seen this guy twice. It was a simple question that didn't require a financial life story to be answered. Everywhere else in the area offers some kind of value drink so I was just curious. Unfortunately this is the only John Smith nearby but the local shops are better and Miami Subs isn't too far I guess. Jon Smith Subs is located on the corner of S. Dixie Highway and Southern Boulevard across from Walgreens and just down the road from Palm Beach International Airport. The seating area is small yet cozy and brightly lit with an upbeat vibe. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and treated my dad like an old friend once she recognized him. She quickly took our orders upon approaching the counter. We both ordered their signature sub The Steak Bomb, a popular customer favorite with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, and provolone cheese along with a side of fries. The sub was delicious with plenty of thick-sliced onions and grilled green peppers offering a great balance with the diced bacon, lots of provolone cheese, and a generous amount of marinated sirloin steak on toasted French bread. The fries were crispy and hot, thin-cut style that complemented the sub along with a large iced tea that was perfect for the sunny 75 degree weather outside. There were other promotional subs displayed on the wall that I would like to try on my next visit when my younger brother comes in from Tampa. Some of the more notable subs include the Maple Chicken (Smokehouse maple spice rub and maple syrup glaze with bacon), the Lemon Pepper Chicken (lemon juice, seasonings, and capers.....this one sounds awesome), the Gator (sirloin steak, chicken, kielbasa, and provolone with "swamp sauce"), and the Tuna Bomb which is the owner's personal favorite according to the employee. Since I've been down here working I've stopped by here for lunch on several occasions. I like the food here. I usually get a maple bacon chicken sub on wheat bread. You can get it in a 6" or foot long. It's is excellent! Not heavy and filling. I also get a small order of fries and between that and a cold drink you will leave out of there satisfied. My coworkers also swear by the meatball sub that's made there. There's also an assortment of chips and cookies that you can also purchase. Started by calling in order for pick up, put on hold for 5 minutes. Arrived at store before the phone was answered, only one customer in the store when I arrived. Placed order for sub with "only" onions and green peppers, and asked for extra please since I wasn't getting the tomatoes, mushrooms or bacon that comes on it. Ask for seasoned fries, wasn't told they don't season them, good thing I picked up salt because they had nothing on them. Got home to find sub had only green peppers, and Pepperoni, for which I was charged extra for. Had to call the store again, and again was put on hold again. When girl answered I informed her of the mistake, and again stated Onion and green peppers only! Drove back to the store expecting sub to be ready, no customers in store (remember I was on hold for the second time) this time the cook comes out and I have to say "3 times" just green peppers and onions. No I don't want Mayo, tomatoes, bacon or mushrooms. Waited for second sub to be made. When finished the girl brings it out to me says here your sub (neither her or the cooks said sorry for the mixup) I say "thank you" her response to me.....NO PROBLEM!!! Let's see, my phone call goes unanswered, my order (and a very simple one at that) is messed up, I'm charged extra for pepperoni, I have to drive back to the store, there is still confusion about a sub with only onions and green peppers, no sorry for the mixup, and instead of getting at least a thank you for all your troubles (and extra money charged) I get "NO PROBLEM!! Maybe not for you but with that response I will never step foot in your door again. No problem!!
