Thanks to the colorful signage and the bouncy house in the yard, this shop was all our kids would talk about and refer to throughout our entire meal. We stopped in for a "brief visit" on our way back to our car and ended up staying an hour+. There is the bouncy house, a porch swing and benches, and toys, and puzzles galore inside. There were some really unique items for kid bedrooms, like paper unicorn heads to mount to the wall or gorgeous rocks and gems to bring their day luck and a bit of pizzaz. Don't forget the huge candy selection, both bulk and pre-packaged. There are also kid tables set up with interactive stations with puzzles and crafts for kids to try out and stay occupied with. We ended up doing gem mining in the back yard of this shop. They have a patio setup where kids can pan for gems and fossils found within sand and sediment in pre-purchased buckets from inside. It was a hit! My kids were so excited. We will certainly stop in here again when in Ellijay. Shop small, y'all!

It has a small parking area right off the road. There is a wooden viewing platform built right off the road terminating in a platform about 8 x 15 feet wide and about 25 feet off the ground. This allows visitors to see below and out across the mountains to the east. It offers a nice view but not as spectacular as the ones from the visitors center. It is important to note that this location offers the Eastern view whereas the Visitor's center offers the southern view so it is unique in that respect. One of the trails originates from this same location. It is nice to see and has a nice informational display built onto the platform explaining the view. When first entering it looks like it is a tunnel through the trees but it opens into a better, broader view. It is worth a stop either on the way to the visitor's center or on the way back from the center. You may also want to visit the Foxfire museum right down the mountain a little bit. Enjoy.

The hospital is in a beautiful building that resembles and older plantation estate with sprawling and beautiful lawns. Overall, we spent about 30-45 minutes walking around and looking at the store. Well, it turns out to be the birthplace of the Little People dolls and later the spawning grounds of the Cabbage Patch Dolls. Approaching, it is an impressive location. From the outside it looks to be a stately Southern mansion, complete with the large marble pillars out front and large, plantation-like grounds. Once you get inside, it becomes more obvious that the outside appearance is more of a facade and it was built as a kind of warehouse/showroom facility, and was never an actual mansion. Entering at the front, you are greeted by the hosts, who explain that admission to the facility is free, and they explain the various areas of the facility. Out front is a historical museum of the first Little People and how they came about, along with the history of the acquisition by Coleco and the development of the Cabbage Patch doll. Historical examples are shown in cases, along with various outfits. Entering the facility, you are first introduced to the nursery, a room with full cloth versions of the dolls that you can purchase. The pervasive scent of talcum powder fills the air here, and it is an interesting thing to see. A host is stationed in this area as well to answer any questions you may have as well as handle any purchases you might want to make of the (expensive) dolls that are located in this section. Once you leave the nursery, you enter the main sales floor, where the more reasonably priced (and plastic) Cabbage Patch dolls reside. You get all of the different paraphernalia that is available in the line here, from full dolls to keychains, and everything in between. In the back is the birthing area, where you can watch a new doll come into existence with a full show to go with it. We did not stay around for the show... seemed kind of silly to us. The site is a destination for certain tour buses coming down from Helen. Apparently there are tour companies from up North that bring busloads of people to visit Helen and experience a Bavarian-like township, and one of the extra tours that they do is to come down to this location so that people can buy stuff. We spoke with one of the people off of the bus who had an original Little People strapped to a baby carrier on her chest, who had come down from Massachusetts on one of these tours specifically to visit the hospital and see where her doll that she had been caring for the past forty years had come from. All of this is somewhat silly, but as it is free it is an interesting experience. Woe to the poor father that brings his young daughter here, though!
