What a fun general store. If you were looking for nostalgia or even modern day items, I would check out this shop. It gets a little crowded in the back area when you go up the staircase though. There's so much to look at and the prices seem pretty reasonable.

Just a fun store to browse. It won't be long before you stumble on something special. The grandkids were fascinated by the marbles and magnets. I reminisced with old fashion rock candy and other treats from the 60's. If you're into geodes. You've found nirvana. Give yourself plenty of time to visit.

Lots of fun goodies here. Gifty stuff, souvenirs, kitchen sauces, jams, sweet treats, u can find a lot. Check it out and maybe u will find something fun for you or someone else. You can find this store in the Downtown Dahlonega Square. So many cute local shops in this area. Definitely worth a stop!

What a great stop in downtown Dahlonega! They've got a little bit of everything in this store - souvenirs, pictures, candies, stones, clothes. I thought the prices were reasonable and the people were super friendly!

Lot of goofy things in here, but it's great for finding some stocking stuffers or gifts to take home. It's very appropriately located in the center of Dahlonega and fits right in with the rest of the tiny town ambiance.

Just one of the many gourmet goodies here

I remember visiting this store 17 years ago when my kids were little and nothing has changed! There is something for everyone, from fun toys for the little ones, t-shirts and other souvenirs for all ages, and gifts galore. There is also a large selection of gourmet foods - jams and jellies, sauces, honey and more - where any "foodie" will find plenty to love. For me, it was a boysenberry jam. I had to buy a jar since you can't find this anywhere and it is my favorite. The other find on this visit was a package of the nostalgic candy Mary Janes. They are my husband's favorite and will make a perfect stocking stuffer. One word of caution - this store is packed with stuff everywhere with very little room to turn around. My husband is a wheelchair user and he'd never be able to navigate this crowded space :(

I love the Dahlonega General Store for exactly everything it is. A fun place to take your family and buy really great souvenirs and gifts. I can't imagine it has changed very much from the first time I visited as a kid. And I hope it never does. T shirts, books, geodes, snacks, and some handsome cutlery.

    Big wooden bear!

The bear is very cute and the player piano is very fun as well! The ladies at the register were very sweet and helped me find what I needed.

Great store with lots of local merchandise and on a Saturday afternoon you will usually find some locals a pickin and a grinning outside. Just gives you that "Mayberry" feeling that all is right in the world at least at that moment in time.

This store is as old school as it gets!

What this store is great! It has a little bit of everything. From old-school candy to mind rocks, they have a deal for anyone. If you're looking to just go in and have a little fun, or re-create some nostalgia, or just find a good souvenir for a friend, this is the place to be. This general whole store is one-of-a-kind and is truly a place that has to be stopped at if you are in Dahlonega.

    Five cent coffee!

BACK IN THE DAY! This is a cute little store with a wide selection of items. They have everything from books and memorabilia from the Civil War, to old school candy and moon pies, candles, food items, t-shirts, hats, walking sticks and more. If a photo of Robert E. Lee or General Longstreet offends you, avoid the upper level. If you don't like images of little black dolls from back in the day, avoid the upper level, (and yes they have the white counterpart to this doll and neither image is flattering but probably true to the era in which these dolls were originally made). Yes, they have the Confederate flag for sell (not displayed but neatly folded on the table), but it too is on the second level. On the other hand, if you enjoy Civil War history, they have black and white prints of some of the key players, and battle sites and they also have framed and matted prints in color. You will also find a number of related books as well. Yes, they really do have 5 cent coffee on the honor system. You just drop your money in the jar and pour yourself a cup of coffee. My husband was able to grab a seat while I snooped around. The staff in this store was very warm and friendly and easily engaged. You could take everything out of this store and I would still be enamored because I love these old original structures. From the walls to the floors they hold so much history and so many secrets. Every small town needs a General Store and this one does not disappoint!

WE NEED LOVE TOO!…read more The Carriage House Shoppes are a series of shops located in a mini-mall just north of the square. If you are headed toward either of the Mexican restaurants, you can't miss it. Inside you will find the Georgia Winery tasting room, You-nique gifts (not open), the Strait Gate which offers Christian gifts and decor, the Yahoola Cherokee Museum, and a music studio that also provides lessons for a variety of instruments. Not all of the shops were open or staffed so we just wandered around checking things out. We did have a nice visit with a couple of people in the winery and that was very nice. It's nice to pause for a minute and talk with the local residents. This building is a two story structure and we enjoyed hanging over the upstairs rail and checking out the action below. When visiting Dahlonega, it is so easy to focus on the stores that are gathered around the square but don't forget the outlying shops as well. They need love too!

You-Nique Gifts has some very nice local art pieces including jewelry by local artist, Donna Mahone, that were beautiful. The Caveman pottery and Granny Bell items would make perfect gifts. There is also a nice selection of jewelry including Fenton Art Glass. They even custom print gifts such as t-shirts, phone cases, photo frames, mugs, key chains, etc. while you wait. Just walk across the hall to Taste Dahlonega, and enjoy a glass of wine while your gift is being prepared. This is the perfect place to spend a few hours on a rainy day.

It will not disappoint if you can get through the front door, which is cluttered like a hoarders house. Once we walk through the tiny path between all the "antique gems", a deep awakening in our spirits happened. A spine, chilling moment. Something you would see on 60 minutes episode before a person was kidnapped. Suddenly a man from the back yelled out " you want a shot or a hot chocolate?". With fear and trepidation, we said no and he asked us if he scared us... we said "yes". We knew we had to get out of there fast. As we were trying to "escape", I saw a cat and tried to soften the awkwardness and talk to an older lady about the cat. Just as I did that, the older lady started yelling out. "They're not gonna buy anything, Jack! Why are they here if they don't wanna buy anything? They don't like our store? They should leave!!" He agreed and so did we!
