Disappointing experience. The "Locals Only" sign was off-putting, they were out of most menu items, portions were small, and we were overcharged for what we received. $62.50 for 2 carry out brisket plates. Different price than the menu. Unfortunately, the food and service did not justify the price. We won't be back. read more

I had the pleasure of having lunch here with an old friend today. I had high expectations of this BBQ joint based on other Yelp reviews. I was a little disappointed but not entirely. My friend and I were warmly greeted and received the same as family treatment. I had a brisket and rib plate with BBQ slaw and baked beans. The slaw and baked beans were excellent! The ribs looked like an end piece with little meat. There were three ribs and the middle one was bone to bone with no meat at all. The little bit of rib meat that I had was tasty though. The brisket was not sliced and had the texture of chopped BBQ. My friend who is familiar with brisket had a taste and said it was good. It looked like a small amount to me for a 27.00 USD. plate of food. My friend had a BBQ plate and it was piled high. He allowed me a taste and it was excellent. Perhaps I ordered the wrong plate; but this review is about mine. I was very disappointed; but not to the point that I wouldn't return. I will order the BBQ plate next time for sure. We've passed this placed on our travels and keep saying we need to come back and try it. We are sooo glad we finally did. Jolly Roger's did not disappoint. Best Smoked BBQ in SC so far, in my opinion. Not a big place, a shack but it's full of character and flavor. Coming up the ramp to the door you can smell the Smokey goodness waiting for you inside. Order at the counter, but check the board because they do run out of items. And we came late so they were out of some sides and ribs. But that was ok. Ordered the brisket sandwich, beans, BBQ slaw. I thought the beans were ok, standard flavor, nothing special. But, I added their BBQ sauce to them and that upped the flavor tremendously. The BBQ slaw's flavor is great. Slaw was ice cold and crisp. Cabbage is a small dice cut but not too small. Good kick to it and not overwhelmed with BBQ sauce. Now the star. The brisket sandwich served on a good sized bun. Stacked well on the portion. The bark was incredible, smoke, smoke, smoke. Best I've had in SC so far. It was nice and tender as well as flavorful. Adding their BBQ sauce, vinegar base, only upped their game. We will be back for sure. Since it was our first time we were gifted their banana pudding. They must have plenty of regulars because they knew we were there for the first time. She said she didn't recognize us and doesn't forget a face. The staff were so friendly. We haven't eaten BBQ all over the world and this has to be beat the best we have eaten. Seriously, a tiny little place off of the road that we had to even turn around because we missed it. We had bbq, potato salad, slaw, banana pudding and took home amazing chicken stew plus they had a guy with a guitar singing. Worth the country roads for this true bbq gem! read more
