As a declared and self-ordained brisket snob from Texas I've been asked if there are any good places for it in South Carolina. The answer is a resounding "yep" and my favorite is Bobby's BBQ. On a recent visit to Greenville my wife and I made a side trip here, SO worth the stop. This is truly great brisket! Seasoned, wood-smoked, moist and flavorful. So tender it can be cut with a fork. Meat candy goodness. Is it supposed to be so dark? Absolutely, the servings are NOT burnt. There's a wonderful bark on this brisket which comes from a generous seasoned rub, low heat and a lot of TLC. Is it supposed to be fatty? You bet. Brisket is a tough cut of meat and fat provides tenderness, moisture and flavor. This ain't fine dinin' but the service from the counter is always welcoming and helpful. There is indoor and outdoor seating if you'd prefer to stretch your legs and eat here instead of waiting for the long drive home. The sides and sauces are very good as well. I love the Sweet Potato Crunch and the tangy OG Sauce is as good as any Texas Hill Country joint offers. (Sorry, I have no food photos. Sorry for the lack of food pics; our food was so amazing, we ate it before I thought to snap any pictures. Came in with the family on a Friday evening (my husband, 2 grown sons & I). We each got the sandwich combo (meat of your choice, 2 sides & a drink) and some smoked sausages. The turkey was amazing, as was the brisket and pulled pork! The sausage is some of the best we've ever had. My sons loved the mac 'n cheese and I loved the coleslaw and sweet potato casserole. There's plenty of seating, both inside and outdoors. The vibe is very family friendly and welcoming. They had seasonal blackberry & peach cobbler on the menu, but it was sold out that evening. My husband returned the following day to get some (and a couple more sausages). The cobbler was worth the wait! Staff is personable and friendly! We will definitely be back! read more

Stopped into Bobby's with a group today. It was our first visit and we really had a great time. You'll wait for a bit before you order as all of your meet is hand sliced to order and, to me, that's worth the wait. I ordered the Brisket sandwich combo. You can tell this is quality food prepared with care. That being said, it's not going to be cheap. My combo ended up being $25 with tip just for me. Our group sat in the four season room where there are several long tables that customers can share. The brisket had really good flavor and was super juicy. The bun served its purpose and soaked up all of that goodness. My grumble here is that I kept adding their original bbq sauce but I never really tasted it. I fully appreciate that the brisket had good flavor but I also wanted saucy flavor. My sides were good. I had the corn pudding which was well done. Ellie's Baked Beans were a little unique. I wanted them to have a touch more flavor too. All in all, this is a great place to stop. I'll be back when I'm in the area. read more

I heard a lot about this place so I wanted to give it a try. I love ribs always have and I love bbq sauces. I was greeted by the workers that were by the smoker. As soon as you get in it's busy and this place stayed busy and the whole time I was there. There's not much personality in the shop itself when getting assisted to the people at the counter but the owner was very friendly as I was going to leave. There's prices aren't bad but I wish they had a variety plate like others bbq places I've been to. Out of all the things I got the pork ribs were the best. I liked the hot bbq sauce the most but all of them were just basic flavors. The sweet potato casserole was pretty good as well. They seem to always have it stocked so don't worry about missing out but you can totally order ahead. I don't know if I'll be back but I'm glad I tried it. read more

We wanted to have Southern BBQ and this restaurant was close to us. It didn't disappoint. We ordered several combo meals. Each combo came with two sides and a drink. We had brisket sandwich combo and pork rib combo. We tried them with three different BBQ sauces - original, hot and honey mustard. Honey mustard was my favorite. We chose sweet potato crunch, corn pudding, beans and mac n cheese. I loved sweet potato crunch! I also had a side order of jalapeño cheese sausage... sooo yummy! It's been a few years since I've tried this restaurant. The outside is very nice and welcoming. The parking lot is gravel and can be cumbersome to navigate. The inside is small. Keep in mind there are only four (4) tables that have access to air conditioning, all other tables are "outside" meaning they receive no AC. The rest of the tables are in an enclosed room made up of windows. There are however a few fans lazily spinning. The personal working the line are very nice and helpful. I ordered the jalapeño cheddar sausage combo. This comes with one protein option and two sides. For my sides I chose baked beans and sweet potato soufflé. The gentleman cutting my protein option offered me a taster of the banana pudding. The beans are okay, they appear to be more of a mustard base less of a tomato base. They tasted okay, but are not my favorites. The sweet potato soufflé was good. Very sweet. Lots of sugar. The sausage was delicious! Very good. Nice snap. They offer three sauces an original, a mustard, and a hot. The mustard and the hot were good. The original is just that, a standard original. This would be a business I could only visit either being the first in line to have access to AC or in the winter when it's 50 degrees outside. This is also a good take out option as well. read more

We visited Bobby's BBQ for the first time. Had the pulled pork plate with a slice of brisket with two sides. When I say everything is delicious, everything is Delicious! The pulled pork had just the right about of smoke, the brisket is so tender and melted in your mouth. On to the sides, sweet potato crunch has the right amount of spices and nuts to sweet potatoes ratio the taste is amazing, just amazing. For dessert have the banana pudding you will be glad you lear some room for this sweet tasty treat. Let's talk about the service, top knocked so friendly and helpful with the menu. Heard and read tons of reviews on the BBQ at Bobby's. Was excited to make a first visit. We had the BBQ pork, brisket and ribs with baked beans, slaw and sweet potato crunch. We were not impressed. Relative to other top tier BBQ establishments in town, I render a "fair" rating for today's visit. That's generous. The pork, brisket and ribs were just bland or ho hum lacking taste and texture. I'll give Bobby's another shot. I rarely pass final judgement on a first visit. But at $50 for two, they have to do better. read more

I stopped by yesterday because I had seen Bobby's BBQ on Deana and Phil's YouTube Southern & Soul Food in the USA episode. I was just down the road on a business call about 50 minutes from my office. As I walked in, I spoke to "the man in the back" as he called himself, which I now realize was the owner, Tay Nelson. He gave me some suggestions on what to order. I took everything back to the office to share with my co-workers. We all took the first bite together and we were absolutely AMAZED at how good it was. We tried the beef rib, brisket, turkey and jalapeno cheddar sausage. With every bite I would hear "that is the best sausage I have ever had" or "that is the best turkey and best brisket". And the banana pudding... OH MY GOODNESS! We all agreed that we would be in big trouble if your restaurant was closer to our office because we would be there every day. I was in a meat coma by the end because I kept wanting one more bite. Thank you for the warm welcome Tay and fantastic food. We will definitely be back and happily make that 50 min drive! read more

The food overall looked appealing but lacked flavor unless you used one of their house sauces. The brisket was moist but had no bark to speak of. The pulled pork was good especially when you added the mustard sauce to it. The smoked turkey breast was nice and moist - definitely the winner for the meats we had. The corn pudding wasn't as good as what we've had at Lewis BBQ. The bake beans were nice, not over cooked and not spicy. Potato casserole was not very appealing.
