Two Tuesdays ago, I caught an early flight to Winnipeg. It arrived at 10 am. I had been awake since 4:30 am. After fetching my luggage and rental car, I was ready for lunch at around 11 am. If anyone knows me, I tend to eat a later lunch no matter how early I am up. However, I had a long day ahead of me driving down to the Twin Cities, so I needed some nourishment. It was a no-brainer move for me to visit this Jollibee location: - It was the first one established in Canada - It has a drive-thru - I needed my Fillipino fast food fix - It's less than ten minutes away from the airport I love Jollibee. I am thrilled that the greater Toronto area (GTA) has locations. However, none of them have drive-thrus. All three Winnipeg Jollibee locations do. What is wrong with you, GTA?! I am also ecstatic that Jollibee chose Winnipeg for its first Canadian location. Winnipeg boasts the highest Filipino population per capita and has Canada's third-largest Filipino population. It truly deserved the nod. I could have dined in. I wanted to hit the drive-thru and did just that. I had the most helpful woman take my order. My order comprised these items: - Pineapple juice - Two burger steaks with steamed rice - A side of spaghetti - Peach mango tea I asked if I could do a side of spaghetti. I could. Yay! My order was over $20. I frankly don't remember the exact price, which is odd for me. I was borderline hangry. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my drink and bag of food fairly quickly. I thanked the woman and headed over to an available parking spot in a vast parking lot to chow down. I love the pineapple juice. It's sweet, but not disgusting gross. It's like a cheerful burst of happiness when you sip it. My go-to meal is the two burger steaks with steamed rice. It's the mushroom gravy that makes this meal awesome. I mixed the sauce with the steamed rice and enjoyed it with the burger steaks. It's brilliant comfort food that made me so happy. I love the spaghetti. You get small slices of hot dogs in a tangy-slightly sweet sauce. The noodles were perfectly done. I loved eating it from a cup. It's nice getting drive-thru spaghetti. Fazoli's is the other chain that I know of where you can get spaghetti at a drive-thru. I normally get two peach mango pies. I decided to get one because my order was large. It hit the spot. The exterior was crispy. The peach mango filling was excellent. I was so happy. I loved this location so much that I ate here before I headed to the airport to head home to Toronto. My order was similar, except that I wasn't hangry. I omitted the pineapple juice and spaghetti. My lunch was satisfying. I probably saved a bit having comfort food at Jollibee than dining at the airport. I love this location. The food was yummy. Staff were helpful and friendly. I almost gave this place a 5 stars because the food is very delicious! The price is just a wee bit steep, about 8$ for a medium-ish plate of food plus a soda. I ate the Palabak shrimp noodle dish with a juice drink and it was so exciting for my taste buds. The first bite I had was salty and then sweet. The entire meal was super fun to chew and swallow. I've never had something that tasted quite like this spaghetti meal. (Very similar to spaghetti). The yellow fruit juice was tasty too. The inside of the restaurant reminds me of McDonald but with a Jollibee cute bee mascot in the entrance. The mango peach pie is as yummy as the apple pies of McDonald. read more

Jollibee, a Filipino fried chicken restaurant chain, recently opened restaurants in Toronto and the line-ups had been crazy. When I drove by one on Ellice Avenue in Winnipeg this afternoon, I thought it was a good chance to check it out for a late lunch. You order at the counter and the staff was friendly, greeting me with a "Jolly afternoon". After I paid, I was given a buzzer, which let me know to go pick up my order when it was ready ... it took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. I ordered a three piece spicy chicken dinner and my side was fries. The spice doesn't come from the batter ... it comes from the spices sprinkled on afterwards. I found it a bit too spicy so tapped the spices off. The chicken was hot and fresh and juicy. The fries and gravy (which was a nice surprise) were good. read more

I had to test out Jollibee on a recent trip to Winnipeg. Many of us have heard that there are more Jollibee locations in the Philippines than McDonald's. Growing up I had many close friends that were Filipino. We would have lechon pig roasts in the summer in the park and would eat some great dishes such as kare kare, bopis, pancit, lumpish and halo halo. My mid afternoon snack. A palabok pancit and piece of fried chicken with a pineapple quencher to slide it all down! The palabok pancit was okay. Sauce tasted like it was unfrozen from a master sauce with water added. The chicken piece was crunchy and moist and came with a gravy to dip it in. The pineapple quencher was delicious and refreshing. Overall it's fast food. Pricing is reasonable. It's not expensive but the portions are on the smaller side. Parking is limited here. If you come at peak hours patience is needed for sure. I do look forward to coming again to test it out and will update my review! read more

Alright, I've given into the hype thanks to my Filipino friends back in Toronto. When they found out that Jollibee was opening in Winnipeg, every single one urged me to try the place as soon as possible. Well, after a month of opening, I finally tried Jollibee earlier this week on a Wednesday. Fortunately I came just after the lunch rush, so there wasn't a huge lineup at all. In fact even if there was, I found service to be very quick here so I doubt the wait would be that long regardless. Since this was my first time, I had the Jolly Spaghetti with 1 piece Crispy Chicken, therefore I get to try both their staples here. The spaghetti is certainly different from the typical ones you eat in western establishments. It's a lot sweeter, and instead of meatballs for meat they use chicken sausage pieces instead. I personally like it, but I understand people might not like sweet tomato sauce. As for the crispy chicken, it's a combination of very juicy chicken and not as fattening/greasy skin, which I really liked. I wish the portions could be a little bigger, but otherwise I was really satisfied with the food. I haven't tried the mango pie or palabok yet, so I might do that next time as well. What a jolly place! This place is worth the hype. Too bad there are not too many places in USA. It' is North of Border fare!! The spicy chicken was delicious with brown gravy dipped or spooned over the chicken it's just makes the chicken. The chicken was fresh and juicy. The filipino style spaghetti I have only heard of from a friend. The semi sweet sauce was different but very enjoyable. The peach mango pie is a must have for any visit. I found the food to be very bad quality for fast food. Now, I'm not entirely ruling Jolibee out of the picture or deemed bad, I'll just give it a second chance if I ever get a chance to visit the Philippines. But for now I'm never going back to Jolibee in North America. read more

What a huge disappointment. The food is great, but no wifi--Really no wifi for customers! WTF...That's usually standard. We were visiting Canada from the USA. While traveling we rely on free wifi hotspots to stay in touch because we don't have cellular data or international roaming to connect with people. Jollibee was a destination stop because there aren't many around, so we stopped in to eat. We were looking forward to sharing with friends and family that we were eating at the Winnipeg Jollibee in Manitoba, Canada. Imagine our disappointment. This is obviously my first stop and last stop in Winnipeg, until Toronto gets its act together and finally opens one up! For the uninitiated, Jollibee is the "McDonald's of the Philippines" and conjures childhood memories. It's not just burgers and fries, they do have other menu items, such as rice meals (for breakfast) and spaghetti and fried chicken. I always stop by here whenever I am in Winnipeg. I am Filipino so I grew up with Jollibee. The service at this Jollibee is very quick and the food is always fresh. I love their original fried chicken with the gravy and rice. The food are priced at a reasonable price and the employees are always very welcoming! I would recommend avoiding times when the lunch or dinner time rush because there is not a lot of seating. Also, I recommend ordering the pineapple juice with your meal. Obviously there's a bunch of hype in the Filipino community surrounding Jollibee and I've heard just about everything about it. I live in Edmonton so unfortunately this is the closest one to home - 13 hours away by car.. yikes! Luckily I had an event taking place in Winnipeg and it was only 20 minutes from my hotel so as soon as I got the few hours in my schedule free I went straight here! There are a few things that make Jollibee pretty different from some other fast food places. The first is waiting time and long lines. Now considering there are only 2 locations in Winnipeg, the lineup during lunch hours is insane. It was around 3:00pm when I got there with my mom and boyfriend, and I can't say that I've ever been given a buzzer to wait for fast food but yeah, that happened. It was a bit of a wait but nothing I hadn't experienced before so I wouldn't say that it would prevent me from coming back. Most people came with their entire family so the place was packed with large groups of people ordering a lot of food. However not many people stayed so eventually the resturaunt emptied out a little bit and it wasn't so crowded. The next is their food which I was super pleased with. Obviously it is a fast food restaurant.. so if you're expecting higher quality food I wouldn't say that the quality alone stands apart from anything else. But what makes their menu unique is what they have to offer. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so I was able to try their chicken, spaghetti, beef steak, rice, palabok, peach mango pie and pineapple drink. I didn't try their burgers because according to the boyfriend who was there to help my mom and feel a little less forgien to their menu, said that the burgers aren't anything insanely special and to experience it I should try something else. Which I'm glad I did because my favorite item was probably the palabok! If you're checking it out I would definitely recommend that item. It would be hard for me to describe the taste but I can certainly say that if you're hesitant about trying new stuff it isn't anything that requires a particular pallet. Their spaghetti was also super good and warning to my fellow white people - Filipino spaghetti is sweet so don't expect your tomato sauce alright? Their beef steak and rice were both pretty much as expected - good, not over done or anything like that. Their chicken had a delicious skin on it and it was cooked pretty well! I'm a bit more picky when it comes to doneness so I found it slightly underdone but I ate it regardless so I have nothing to complain about. Their peach mango pie and pineapple drink are things I would come back for in a heartbeat. They were both so tasty I can't even tell you how badly it beats the apple pie from McDonald's. It's a whole other level of fast food boujieness. Overall I'm so glad I was able to try out this hyped place and I'm still really sad that we don't have one in Edmonton. Lines are long and the place is packed but the workers do a great job of keeping everything organized and getting orders done. It's definitely an experience! read more

You go Winnipeg for owning a Jollibee!! This city is not so tiny anymore! Burger steak with rice: basically it's a loco moco if you've had one. Ground beef steak x 2, mushroom gravy and rice. I'm glad there was gravy because I like saucy foods with my rice. I was also grateful for the gravy because the rice was a little hard, yikes. Possibly old? I did like the burger steak though, it was salty and pretty flavorful considering this is a fast food restaurant. Overall this restaurant is BUSY with very little seating and parking. It's hard to eat Jollibee food in a car too. I would like to come back and try other items to compare to what I know in the States though. read more

Maybe something is lost in translation, but the chicken was of low quality, the spaghetti / hot dog / ketchup side dish was completely unappetizing and the cheeseburger caked with mayo was borderline inedible. Their prices are low enough, but that's not enough to make me consider it again. This may be your thing if you've grown up with the chain as some people of Winnipeg have, but after trying for the first time I fail to see the appeal. read more

If you're willing to brave the long lines during their grand opening, you'll be rewarded with some of the finest fried chicken and Filipino fast food in Canada. Chicken Joy, palabok, spaghetti, peach mango pie...all the classics are here. Seating is limited, although there appears to be a drive thru that will open in the future. This is the first Jollibee in Canada, but apparently Winnipeg will also get a second location in the near future. Definitely worth a visit! read more

First stop to check out after coming from Alberta since we don't have this in our place. My all time fave has been palabok(noodle topped with shrimp sauce, scallions, eggs etc )peach mango pie and their fried chicken. I can say it never changed, I ordered it all, and pineapple juice to drink, it never failed to make me think of home. Been here 3x for the rest of our 1 week trip and I just can't wait for it to be opened in Calgary! Hubby being his first time to try this didn't mind the spaghetti and chicken combo for him, but did find the peach mango pie to his liking. If you're not that adventurous to tastes, try the fried chicken, peach mango pie, pineapple juice and the burgers. I went to Jolibee for lunch for the first time a few days ago. The lineup wasn't bad at all when we got there around 12:10pm on a weekday. The restaurant was very well staffed. Even though there were only two cashiers, there were 8+ staff behind the counters bagging the orders! We got our order shortly after payment. The fried chicken were excellent! They were crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. Aside from the chicken, I also ordered the peach and mango pie for dessert, that was delicious! I would totally go back again! If I have to describe the quality of food at Jolibee, I'd say it's an upscale of KFC. read more

Nice change from the usual fast food places. Basically a chicken place, like KFC, but with a few other options like spaghetti and a Philippine dish that's actually quite good. The spaghetti sauce is sweet, which is a bit weird but still ok. The Mango/Peach pie is pretty great though. Also they have rice instead of fries, which is nice. read more
