Trains I've been on are mostly on time with it's arrival and depart times. I'm used to physical tickets but tried the Ventra app and never realized how smooth that works too when staff comes by to check tickets. Trains can be a hit or miss. Some trains have power outlets while if you're an older model it won't feature them. Trains are primarily clean all around. I recently treated my wife on the Metra for the first time and she enjoyed one trip but disliked the ride there because of a lack of hand sanitizer. Joliet did a great job fixing the transportation center though I would like more busses to featured but you can't beat $1.50 to park there daily. The con is that it's in a bit of a sketchy area dispite it being next to an adult detention facility but you can't beat being in the heart of Joliet either. Hopefully this line gets extended in the future!

During rush hour it takes about 45 to get from one end to the city. No too shabby for rush hour! It's about $6 one way but prices depend on where you pick up the train. Monthly passes are good for regular commuters. The Ten-ride pass is nice for ppl like me who take it often but not everyday. They last for up to a year and buying in 'bulk' like that gives you a discount. Also, make sure you buy your tickets at the station!! The single rides are over $10 if you pay while riding! The station ticket sales people are only there early in the morning. They close shop after rush hour (5 am to 9 am) so make sure you get up early! Only thing is I wish they sold food and drinks on the train. They would make a killing too. I realize that it would need to be a pretty big remodel but that would be so cool! Coffee and pre baked stuff... Starbucks-esque.

My trip from Alton to Chicago was smooth. Got to Chicago 's Union Station on time. If there was…read morefood service it was not announced at any time during this trip. Don't make use of the luggage storage available before you climb up to your seat in coach as there is nothing to designate my bag from any others. The stairway up to your seat is narrow and hauling your bag up the stairs is a bit of a challenge but I would rather have my suitcase with me. Didn't see many conductors walking through on this trip. Got to where I wanted to go just fine.

Know this if you are riding in Amtrak in the Chicago area - the freight trains have priority and you will stop to let them use the trains and you will be delayed. When I rode between St. Louis and Joliet, my train was delayed over 1 hour because of stops for freight trains. My parents only experienced a 20 minute delay. No delays for my son coming from Milwaukee. There are different levels of trains. The train I rode on (I think it was the River Runner), was a 1 story train with no sleeper cars. It was nice, had wifi, charging outlets for your phone and a small dining area. My parents rode on the Texas Eagle which had all that, sleeper cars and was a 2 story train. My son had 1 story train. Riding the train is a nice way to avoid driving and for the most part, they aren't slowed down by snow like when you are driving a car. My parents are in their 80s, so driving was too much for them. They had someone help them get on and off the train, but after that it was up to them to stow their luggage and get around. They have something on their website about dealing with wheelchairs, but I didn't read up on that. So this is a nice transportation alternative, but I would like it to be on time. I don't think that is asking too much.

This particular train only has 5 stops and hits Union station in about an hour. This is a very small station that doesn't sell tickets. You have to purchase them on the train. The good thing is you don't have to pay that $3 up charge to get your ticket on the train since Metra doesn't offer them at the station. The heritage corridor also only runs M-F, with the last train coming from Chicago to Joliet at 5:25pm. This is an express train. The other Chicago bound trains coming out of Joliet take about an hour & 1/2 to get where you're going. The Lockport station does have coffee and snacks you can purchase. The coffee is actually pretty good. Try the cinnamon vanilla nut! The Lockport station has no public restrooms so you better wait til you get on that train! Parking is also $1 a day. Make sure you pay or you will have a ticket on your car! The one thing that sucks about this station is coming home. There is only one entrance out of the parking lot depending on which side you park, and everyone is making a mad dash to leave. People aren't paying attention to what they're doing and everyone is everywhere. I just wait till they all leave. Then I make my departure.

I scheduled a reservation with this company, but had to call them back and cancel because the details of my trip changed. The attitude of the person who answered the phone gave a clear indication that he does not like his job. He told me there was no reservation to cancel, without me providing any information (name, phone number, date, confirmation number, etc.) It turns out that he was simply looking at a computer display that showed a name and phone number where I was calling from. When I questioned him as to what information he was looking at to tell me there was no reservation, he proceeded to tell me my husband's name and phone number. I tried to explain to him numerous times that the reservation was made under MY name and MY phone number. Again, he NEVER asked for my name, date, confirmation number, or phone number I used to make the reservation. He didn't care to speak to me, talked over me numerous times and promptly hung up. My husband called back from my phone number and got one of the manager. The manager, Andrew, NEVER asked him for a phone number, just the name used for the reservation. Sure enough, he immediately found the reservation and cancelled it. Andrew told my husband he would speak to the employee. My husband received a call back a few minutes later from Andrew, who the nerve to say that he listened to the audio from the call and DIDN'T see anything wrong with his employee's behavior. Instead, he blamed my wife for getting agitated. Wouldn't you become agitated with someone who wouldn't listen and look up your information? But I guess this company cares more about sticking up for its incompetent employees rather than providing customer service. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
