I have been doing one on one Pilates work outs with Jolette for several years and I must tell you just how amazing she is! I have gotten so much stronger, my posture and balance have also improved. When I first began seeing her I had trouble with my right hamstring which I had torn years before and mu right shoulder was weak and in pain. I had gone to the best shoulder doctor in the city who gave me three cortisone shots that didn't help at all, except to diminish my wallet! Within six months both problems had dramatically improved. I feel so lucky to have found Jolette! Having worked with at least 6 different pilates instructors over the past 10 years, she is the best instructor I've ever worked with. She is a gifted teacher who has the ability to be clearly explain the correct body mechanics of pilates movements. Our sessions are extremely focused, intense, and fun. She tells you how things should feel and is able to tell whether you are doing things correctly. If you are doing things incorrectly, she explains how to correct your movement. This is not something all pilates instructors are capable of doing. She customizes your class based on your goals, weaknesses, and needs. If you want to learn pilates the correct way, please don't waste your time going to group pilates classes where they simply use reformers as leg presses with no consideration for correct form. I am athletic but have been dealing with chronic neck and back pain. I wanted to find an instructor who could help me strengthen without causing injury and knew how to work with some of the limitations I had. After my sessions with her, I would have less pain and more stability in the spine. I have gotten stronger, which has let me get back to surfing regularly without too much pain. Street parking is super easy. Jolette is a wonderful Pilates teacher. I have been working with her for at least four years and I have had great results. She is attentive on a moment-by-moment basis, throughout the session. She always has a new way to explain something that I can't catch the first time around. She is very patient but never lets go of the fact that you are there to accomplish something and she makes sure that you do! One thing I have always been very impressed with is that Jolette is herself a continuing student of Pilates and other movement systems. She is always learning something new and the works to bring it into the studio during our sessions. This is my plea to run, not walk, and book private Pilates sessions with Jolette. I trained with her this past summer while I was in Los Angeles, and I am still missing her now that I am back east. Jolette has an excellent sense of what a client can or can't do, and a sharp eye -- she'll make sure you do the moves the right way, and not slip and use (in my case) neck muscles when not needed. She looks at every student as an individual and modifies the sessions based on each person's needs, capabilities and limitations. Jolette is like no other instructor you will ever find. She pays attention to your every move ensuring that you do it correctly so that you don't hurt yourself and you get the optimal impact from the session. I used to take pilates from private instructors since 2006 but I didn't know what it was supposed to be until I met Jolette. No instructor ever showed me how exactly to do a "neutral spine" - Jolette gave me the cues and adjusted my position every time I didn't get it correctly so at the end of 1 month I knew exactly what the position was, could get into it, and hold it (During the previous 6 years the instructors never told me I held it incorrectly, and as anybody who has done pilates knows, this is the basis for all movement in pilates). Jolette was as engaged and attentive during the 100th session as she was during the 1st. She corrected my position every time the position was out of alignment so I knew when I finally got it correctly and kept it in the correct alignment. I came to Jolette with sever lower back pain exacerbated by some exercises other instructors made me do and with chronic upper back pain. In 1 month I was pain free, amazingly aware of my body, my posture improved. It continued to improve all through the time I worked out with Jolette. I would not go to any other instructor now. Now when I see other instructors, I can see how they aren't paying attention to their clients, how they are causing harm to the clients by not correcting them, by applying too much weight, by not explaining. I now feel most of the instructors just sit there and chit chat with the client, having a social hour for $70-$85 a pop instead of helping their clients to improve their body, what they actually are getting paid to do. If your instructor is like that, go out with your GFs, it's cheaper and go to Jolette to improve your health, back pain, posture, feel better about yourself and then show off to you GFs your new fab body and your new happy attitude towards life. read more

I have a bunch of mobility issues, as well as unusual medical conditions, and have sought help from a long list of physical therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, masseuses, etc. Usually I'm given a standard set of exercises from a busy/preoccupied therapist at a facility with other clients and the inevitable radio or tv blaring away. The whole experience is about as caring and therapeutic as a log. Jolette is the opposite of this. She's the first therapist I've been to who insists on working one-on-one. She actually listens (a rare thing!) and always observes, understands, then applies her considerable expertise to my individual situation. She's obviously smart, knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. It's not easy - after some sessions I'm almost wiped out - but it's the best thing I've done for myself in a long while. I've been training with Jolette since February 2011. I had never taken a pilates class before working with her. She started with the very basics, like teaching me the proper way to acheive flat back, how to really use my core muscles to move my body on the reformer and how to articulate my spine. She calibrates the work out to my level and challenges me without injury, unlike so many classes I've taken that are more about reps and burn than about the proper amount of exertion for your level of fitness. We work on the table, on the reformer, on a foam roller and using various other equipment, all of it to obtain core strength and tone every muscle group. It's intense work and requires concentration and effort, but it's never so strenuous that I dread the next work out or am too sore. I look forward to my sessions with her and really appreciate the changes in my body. I have a flatter stomach, more sculpted curves, stronger legs and arms and better posture. I often feel like I've had a massage after our sessions because I've worked and stretched everything, even the small muscles around my joints. When I hurt my knee doing another workout, she incorporated some specific knee rehab excercises into our routine that really made a difference in my recovery. She's really gifted in physical training, movement and muscle issues. She definitely knows how to motivate me. I've been a member of most of the gyms around town and done everything from marathons, spinning, yoga etc. to Pop Physique. This is the best, most consistent, program I've ever had because it makes me healthier and stronger, less prone to injury, more comfortable in my body and happier with the way I look over all. Jolette gets 5 stars from me. She is an outstanding teacher in so many ways. I came to her in exasperation. I was suffering for about 18 months with a bad case of plantir fascitis. I went to 2 orthodic specialists, months of physical therapy, had 2 sets of custom made orthodics, went to a chiropractor. Well...one session with Jolette did the trick. She was able to locate the real cause of the problem (extreme tightness in my calves, and thighs). She gave me specific exercises and immediately the pain subsided. It was quite astounding. Jolette has changed my life!!! I have fairly severe scoliosis so I had been scared of being injured in Pilates (had been in the past) & stayed away for years, but then I tried Jolette AND BOY AM I GLAD I DID! She is amazingly knowledgeable about scoliosis (and pretty much everything else body-mechanics related) & has REALLY, REALLY helped me. She is working on strengthening each muscle in my spine so that it holds my spine straighter and it's working like gangbusters. I stand taller, straighter & have far more range of motion in the curved areas since I've been working with her. Jolette is the best trainer of any kind that I have ever worked with. She has an innate natural talent as a teacher. She is very perceptive to what is going on in your body, what your needs are and what you need to achieve. She is very, very good at communicating to you exactly how to accomplish each task. She pays really close attention throughout the lesson, correcting you and guiding you, checking your posture and position. She is gentle in her manner and not intimidating in the least. Jolette is a patient and knowledgeable instructor and I highly recommend her. After my broken foot healed, I decided to try Pilates to strengthen my core and begin the road to recovery. I found Jolette to be extremely knowledgeable, not only when it came to exercises for my abdominal/core muscles, but she was able to come up with exercises that involved strengthening and stretching my foot. I am a 67 year old physician and recently decided to cut back on my workload and try to get in better shape. I have been going to Jolette for pilates for the past year and a half and I am writing this review to let people know that she is an excellent teacher and I can't imagine that there is a better way to learn pilates. In pilates, if you don't move your body the right way and into the right positions, you won't get the optimal benefit. Also, in any pilates exercise, certain muscles have to be relaxed while other muscles are engaged and this is coordinated with breathing technique. Jolette is so experienced and attentive that she picks up and corrects any deviation from proper form (she's really amazing at this) so that the student can master the exercise and advance further. Her knowledge of pilates seems encyclopedic (she is a Master Level Pilates Instructor) and she has a great personality and positive energy so that every session is enjoyable. Since I started working with her I have gained flexibility and strength, chronic low back stiffness is gone and my golf swing, posture and balance have improved. So if you are considering starting up with pilates or you are not currently getting individualized instruction, I strongly recommend you go to Jolette. read more
