I've been coming to both Pilatesmith locations (in Culver City and Santa Monica) for about half a year, and this is one of my favorite studios for a good reason! This studio specializes in athletic Pilates, with extensive options of reformer, TRX, mat, heated, Cadillac and chair Pilates, making it perfect for Pilates practitioners of different experience levels and preferences! The teachers I've taken classes with are all super sweet, with DEEP knowledge of body physiology and traditional Pilates principles. You can definitely tell that their training program is VERY vigorous from the quality of their teachers, and I've always felt very supported and accommodated when it came to the teachers understanding my personal needs, injuries, and capabilities. Pilatesmith has improved my Pilates practice significantly, and I've learned SO much about my own body and how to protect myself from injuries since I've joined this community. Highly recommend checking them out for their challenging yet supportive Pilates workouts! read more

Loved my heated reformer class. The dark/red light vibe was a hit and the studio and bathrooms were very clean as well. A great first impression! The front desk staff and the instructor were so kind and helpful since I was new to the studio. The instructor gave great instructions on movement and I never felt lost. Will be going back for sure! read more

I had such a good experience at this studio! The class was challenging in the best way and the studio is beautiful. I will be back!!

I went to Pilatesmith yesterday and did the heated reformer class with Allister. It was such an awesome session. I felt like I got such a great workout, and he was super personable and made me feel comfortable. I definitely will be coming back. read more

OMG! Love love love Pilatesmith! I started back in May with privates since I had never taken reformer pilates before. Olga and Alise are amazing instructors and they helped me get my form correct. After a few privates with them, I jumped into a beginners group class and then intermediate and all I can say is that I am hooked! Now, three months in, and I go 4 times a week; I alternate from advanced to intermediate classes, can't wait to try a heated class too! Shout out also to Alex, Cynthia, Sarah, Savannah, Sophie and Alistair, it's because of all of you that I am now in the best shape of my life. Oh and lastly, shout out to the ladies at the front desk that always greet me with a smile and enthusiasm! Thank you all! read more

When I first walked into Pilatesmith, I immediately felt apart of their community. I walked in two minutes before they were closing and yet Jj (Jay jay?) was so kind and warm. I spoke to an instructor as well and got a tour of the studio. I signed up for my first class, and ended up going two days in a row. Every time I've gone into the studio I've felt welcomed and apart of, and I've also had two incredible workouts. Very excited to try the heated class and I'm now an unlimited member. Excited to recommend this studio to everyone I know!! read more

Had such an invigorating experience at Pilatesmith. It was my first time doing heated pilates and it was such a fun experience. I'll 1000% be back to do it again. I sweated so much more than I ever anticipated I could in 45 minutes, but thankfully this place is stocked with amenities to get you fresh before your next endeavor. Wonderful instructor, beautiful studio, great classmates. read more

SHOCKING UPDATE: I filed charge back for this conflict and I received notification from my bank that I won. What SHOCKED me is the day I won the case, they charged my card again without my permission. I haven't booked any session after the conflict nor have ongoing membership. I WAS SHOCKED! THIS IS CREDIT CARD FRAUD. I had to call my bank to report it as fraud. BE CAREFUL DEALING WITH THIS STUDIO. Keep all the written proof in case you need to protect yourself from fraud. read more

Had an incredible first class at Pilatesmith with Ky! Heated Reformer, a lot of HIIT and glut focus which I loved. Energy and playlist on point. The studio was gorgeous- it felt like a community! Very easy parking as well. I will be back! read more

Fantastic class, a combination of classic and athletic approaches, where the teacher was still very aware of everyone's form. I appreciated that the stopped the class on several occasions to ask everyone to fix their form. Will definitely be back! Very pretty studio space, with lots of 2 hr free parking on surrounding streets. Classes are small so the teacher can see everyone's bodies. read more

I took the Apprentice (intermediate level) reformer class with Olga - it was a challenge in the best way, a great full body workout at a controlled pace. Throughout class Olga was very attentive to our form and provided friendly cues and adjustments as needed. The Santa Monica studio is spacious and beautiful, with a cool metal staircase leading down to the two group class spaces, and stylish interior touches like the flexed bicep hooks on the wall :) I highly recommend Pilatesmith to anyone who wants to challenge themselves with athletic reformer pilates and improve their overall physical form! read more

If you are pregnant, please be aware of this studio's unclear prenatal policies, inflexible management and predatory cancellation practices that lock you into at least $300-400 on a membership where you cannot access 93% of classes. I was sold the unlimited plan under the expectation that I would be able to access all classes in all formats. The contract and website state "Unlimited Plans are truly unlimited." Nearby studios also offer pregnant women access to all classes with modifications. I was even allowed into several regular classes throughout my pregnancy, which reinforced that understanding. Only after I subscribed, the management decided I was ineligible for regular classes, significantly reducing the value of the plan I had subscribed to. After repeatedly trying and failing to find a reasonable solution with the owner, I requested a cancellation. However, the cancellation request was repeatedly denied. The owner claimed "flexibility" by offering paths forward that in reality locked me into further membership that would force me to pay $300-$400 more for plans that did not work. The owner replied to my initial review claiming she provided an "ASAP downgrade" and "flexibility." But to be clear, what this flexibility actually entailed was hundreds of dollars in forced additional payments: * Option 1 (the "downgrade" they offered): Switch to 8 classes/month ($216/cycle) for 2 more billing cycles I was still required to pay for two full billing cycles (9/16-11/15) on a plan that excluded me from 93% of classes, plus a $30 termination fee -- $462 total. * Option 2: Stay on Unlimited plan ($290/cycle) for 1 more cycle Remain excluded from 93% of classes during my current cycle, then pay an additional $320 ($290 unlimited + $30 termination fee) to finally be able to cancel. I would be forced to pay full price for 7 more weeks of restricted access. This is the first negative I have ever left on Yelp. I have strong empathy for small business owners and generally want to be as supportive as possible of our local community. I had previously even introduced several friends to Pilatesmith. However, this interaction with management has left me severely disappointed and felt taken advantage of. I hope the business will reconsider the way it handles its membership experience moving forward. read more

I took a pre a postnatal class here and it was so great! Kicked my butt in the best way and I sincerely appreciated how accessible it was. I haven't worked out in a very long time, but was able to fit right in and enjoy it. I can't wait to go back! read more

I had a great experience at Pilatesmith! The studio is super cute with private lessons happening upstairs and group classes happening in the two rooms downstairs. Everything is really clean, including the bathrooms and they have nice amenities for clients. Everyone who works there is so sweet and encouraging. The classes are also very engaging and the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to making modifications for different bodies and injuries. Ky has some of my favorite classes. They are HARD but very upbeat and she's so encouraging that it makes you want to push through! read more

Jess was so kind and patient with me as I'm getting back into Pilates after focusing on HIIT and strength classes for the past few years. She corrected my form and seemed to genuinely care about her clients. I look forward to coming back for more challenging classes! read more

I tried Apprentice Pilates (Int. Reformer) and thought it was a good full body workout! I like that we also used the chair and bosu ball rather than staying on the reformer the entire time. The studio was clean and they had a fun playlist. At times, it was difficult to hear the instructor with the music playing and noise coming from the front desk upstairs, but other than that everything was great! Looking forward to trying another class read more

Nice studio with small amount of machines which is nice to get better attention from the coach on form! Would return.

I took a class with Erica and it was absolutely amazing! She was so kind and helpful, great at assisting in correcting form too and just making me feel comfortable overall. I've taken other classes in the past but still feel like a newbie, which is why I took the novice class with her. I really feel like I learned a lot and am more confident now moving forward :) Can't wait to go back! read more

Loved this pilates studio. Front desk is very welcoming, studios are cute and clean. Had a great class and looking forward to taking more classes! read more

I took a prenatal class here and loved the instructor! Everyone was very welcoming and the reformers were great.

They give you a free class for a good review, so read them with that in mind. When you cancel your membership they charge you $30! I have never experienced that and should have read the terms closer. I trusted that this was a reputable business based on the reviews, but that was before I knew they basically pay for good reviews. Many people in the community said it is shady there. I just didn't think it would matter to me - I should have listened. Really disappointing. I tried to cancel in person and they wouldn't let me. They said I am only able to cancel by contacting the owner. This was within 30 days of my membership renewing, but by the time I was able to contact the owner it was past 30 days so I had to pay for another month. Such shadiness there. The classes are also hit or miss. It is not worth the money. Beware - at least know that they make you pay to stop going there! read more

Fantastic beginner pilates class! We went with my entire family (from beginners to more expert people) and Kiana was able to adjust the workout to each of our abilities. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and she was also able to accommodate modifications for me as well. We will definitely be back! read more

Super great loved the heated reformer. The studio was so clean and nice def will be back!

The staff here are so welcoming. The instructors have been amazing at adjusting exercises to my needs as I'm healing from an injury, which I really appreciate. I feel supported and safe during class. Plus, I love the cute zodiac grip socks they have! read more

Did my first class with pilatesmith this past Monday. I have nothing but great things to say about this facility, everyone there was so friendly. I booked this last minute, luckily there was one spot left for their morning class at 11 am. My instructor was super helpful, the studio was beautiful, and there's even a room in the back that they use for hot pilates! You are in for a real sweat and amazing workout at this facility. read more

I really enjoyed my first time at Pilatesmith Santa Monica! They gave me a quick tour before we started, and the space is really beautiful. I really enjoyed the class, it was both challenging and a great stretch. Would definitely come again! read more

A great Pilates class. Will definitely be back. Challenging but super fun. Instructor adjusted me as needed. Highly recommend!

Sounds like other women have had very similar experiences to mine. Had a health issue come up in pregnancy and owner was extremely difficult and unwilling to help me to get my account cancelled. They also denied having an up to date card on file and kept pushing me to update cc info, and even when I did not - they still charged me for another month, and then the cancellation fee on a different card which they clearly had. Seems super scammy, would never trust signing up with them again and advise others to think twice before you do! read more

Best Pilates class I've taken! I did the prenatal class with Sophie in Santa Monica. The class was slow enough and gentle for pregnancy, but I left feeling like I got a great workout in. I will absolutely be back! read more

There were some things I really liked about the place! Unfortunately the things I didn't like are more important than what was liked :( My biggest con was that the instructor for the Novice class (their beginner class) wasn't very helpful. She did walk around and vocally guided us and suggested various positions. However, she didn't come and assist or correct if someone needed help with their form. I understand that the novice class isn't for people who have never taken Pilates (I have previous experience). But to just verbalize your instructions and not walk around and check on your guests isn't good practice, in my opinion. I've had corrections and guidance with my previous experiences at other studios. To sum it up- it didn't feel like a safe space to ask questions or get feedback :( Pros: -front desk was friendly and informative -clean -small class sizes read more

I had so much fun at Pilatesmith. I've done other classes that are much closer to me but I love the creativity in using the reformer here. I've already been twice and my body feels great. I appreciated the smaller class size and room, especially for the Beginner level. Highly recommend. read more

I had a wonderful experience! The staff and trainers are really nice. The classes are challenging and fun.

This novice class was a perfect full body workout that was just challenging enough, but also guided you through the machine and poses to learn the fundamentals of reformer Pilates. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Jessica (the owner) did NOT contact me after saying she would below. I even sent her a message via Yelp (see picture). She didn't respond to that either. Likely she wants people to think she was following up publicly, but never cared to follow through. This is what you'd be dealing with if you go to Pilatesmith. Separately, after writing my review, I read other 1 star reviews. Many have similar customer service issues. Beware: this is a heartless company that only cares about profit. read more

I think I found my new favorite pilates studio in Santa Monica! I found Pilatesmith through the Classpass app and decided to give it a try since I had some extra Classpass credits. I was able to book within the day which was great that they had last minute openings! The studio is bright and airy and super aesthetic - I was greeted by the friendly front desk staff upon entering. They have a locker room downstairs for you to put your belongings, and a small shop area by the front desk for you to purchase grip socks and apparel. I did the Apprentice Pilates (Int. Reformer Class with Jen!) and loved it! She was fantastic and took the time to demonstrate the moves on the reformer for us to follow. I've been doing pilates for roughly a year now, and the class felt like a good challenge! Jen was extremely encouraging throughout the entire class as well. Parking for the studio is street parking, and grip socks are required! I'll def be back again soon for another class! read more
