John came to our home and brought lovely hard bound - grooved timber style flooring samples and we agreed on one. The samples that were presented to me were not the product I saw being used and already 2/3rds installed by noon on Monday, January 25, 2011. I immediately called John indicating that this was not the product we had discussed and that a laminent was exactly what my husband and I did not want. He stated that "people get them mixed up all the time" and that "with dogs in my house this is the product he thinks I should have." I can only say that we are extremely disappointed with the product as it is something we could have picked up ourselves at Lowe's or Sam's and laid over a weekend and at a fraction of the cost. Not to mention that there is a mound at the rear entry door where the floor was floated over the existing tile, and areas of lift throughout the room that I was told by one of your installers would settle once the materials acclimated themselves to my environment. In coming to a professional interior design and installation service I had certainly expected more, but instead have come away from this experience extremely disappointed. We have learned to live with the floor for now and are in the process of trying to decide how to get rid of it and what we should do next. This certainly is not what we intended when we sought your services as we thought we were buying an improvement to our home, but instead we have a daily reminder of what we didn't want.

We called Smelscer to come out for a second opinion. Brett was so kind and easy to work with. He explained what needed to be done and treated me with the greatest respect. Also, the bid was much more reasonable than the previous company. They were here a couple of days later to get us fixed up, which they did with a very professional nature and all in one day. She did take it from 1 1/2 hours to 1 hour, making it $253.28. Still high, but not way overpriced. I had to drive to get my original check and give them the new check. I added photos showing the hose bib sticks out more, and the cleanout didn't get screwed down. With a little cleanup on the threads, it will be fine. I guess I have to fix that myself. I'm keeping this review as is because that was my experience, and I still will never use them again.

They have all this great information on their site, about what makes them stand apart from other companies. Al Saenz came out for the estimate and was super knowledgeable and friendly. I thought for sure all of that knowledge would come with a higher price than I could afford. Anyhow... he did the estimate right there, at my kitchen table. Everyone else called me back days later or sent an email. Al did it at the table in minutes, offered me many discounts, showed me color samples, and left me with more info and my estimate. When i called back a couple weeks later to schedule the final measure and pay my deposit, he came out, confirmed the measurements, and even helped me with a crooked front door I have, just because he noticed it was having issues closing. We have a big dog, and he was very friendly with him, giving him attention while he was there. Anyhow... so, great customer service and very friendly and attentive. And today they were installed.
