BEWARE: We hired Johnston's for a chimney inspection and cleaning, we were told by our technician that we had glazed (Stage 3) creosote buildup -- but were advised to simply keep using the fireplace and burn hot fires to reduce it. After research and hiring a CSIA certified company, we learned this advice is directly contrary to established safety guidance. Stage 3 creosote is highly flammable and requires chemical treatment or professional removal before a fireplace can be safely used again. The Chimney Safety Institute of America is explicit on this point. Following Johnston's guidance in our report could have caused a chimney fire. We requested a refund given that the inspection included advice that put our home and family at risk, they refuse to acknowledge their fault. We did not feel we received an accurate or professional service. We will be sure to look for that CSIA certification going forward, there are plenty of family owned-- in business for decades, chimney companies in our area that can be relied on to give safe and accurate advice. read more

These guys were fantastic! My HOA told me I needed maintenance on my chimney, but when Johnston's came out to inspect it they told me that there was nothing wrong with it. An honest, easy to work with company. It's a 9 to 5 mom and pop type shop, so be sure to call before 4:30 to assure you get ahold of someone. They do vents as well as chimneys. The prices are upfront with no surprises. I was charged only what I was quoted with no taxes, fees, or surprises. The cleaners arrived early, got the job done, and stayed until I checked everything. Getting ready to put a property on the market and had the fireplace & chimney inspected and cleaned. The Technician was right on time as scheduled and performed a great job as usual. Upon inspecting the exterior chimney, he recommended minor mortar repair and had us scheduled for the next week. All areas where work was performed was left clean and as they found it. Do not use this company for chimney cleaning. The house reeked of soot for the rest of the day and was coated in dust. I have been dusting every day since they were here. They apparently do not sufficiently collect the ash and it was dispersed throughout the house. I have never had so much dust in my house in thirty years. Terrible job. read more

They do an outstanding job of keeping our fireplace and chimney safe and clean. Also had them assist a neighbor who was selling their house and the inspector for the buyer told them the entire chimney needed replacement and significant work on the fireplace which would have cost thousands.
