On a couple of occasions now I've talked with two of the techs in the back, an older guy and a young guy. They are very friendly and knowledgeable about a wide variety of equipment. I brought my manual start Toro Powerlite snowblower in for starting problems I could not resolve, plus the scraper bar was shot. They said my engine was pretty much worn out, so they put a good used engine on it from a machine that another customer had just left there. And this engine had an electric starter! So now I have a machine I can start manually or electrically. But wait, there's more. They thought the rubber paddles on mine were a bit worn out, so they put on a better used pair they had laying around FOR FREE! They also thoroughly cleaned the carb (by ultrasonic method) from the new (used) engine they put in, plus cleaned the fuel tank to ensure no starting problems. All told, they put a lot of work into my machine, including the engine with electric start, for under $200, which I thought was pretty good. It starts and runs like a champ now, just in time for today's snowstorm. Previously I'd only bought parts here a couple of times. And now I know their service/repairs are top notch too!

I could see it being even more helpful for those that need to leave their Dyson product with the service team. Then, you give them the run down of what's wrong, they take it back to test it, tell you the results and, depending on if they have the part(s) in stock, they'll fix it on the spot, collect payment and you'll be on your way. I was there a short time since they could fix it right away. Staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful. Service was speedy for my specific situation, payment was easy to make, and the process was smooth. All in all, I paid $140 for my Dyson animal cordless stick vacuum to be operational again which is cheaper than a new one. My Dyson was up and running like new, if not better! The whole household was happy; the spouse commented on how powerful the turbo function was again! That said, the part they replaced on our vacuum also came with a warranty so should it break again it would be replaced. This holds true for any part that needs replacing which is great. I appreciate services like this because all too often we buy something and then toss it away when it stops working versus having it serviced and keeping something out of the landfill. Lastly, they also sell a variety of Dyson products here as well. It's a great place to be able to try and test something, as well as learning more about them, before making a purchase. When I brought my vacuum in, the technician told me it needed cleaning for $25 and agreed I could clean it myself. He then cleaned it anyway -- without my authorization -- and charged me $25 regardless. That's not a service fee. That's a charge for something I never approved. Dyson's customer support response was equally frustrating. Rather than acknowledging the unauthorized charge, they pointed me to their terms and conditions and offered a 20% discount on a future purchase -- as if I'd want to buy another Dyson after this. $150 in repair costs (the $25 plus a $125 part they say I need) is a lot to spend on a vacuum that has repeatedly had issues. What I needed was honest advice about whether this repair was even worth it. What I got was a bill I didn't agree to. Dyson's products are premium-priced. Their service should match. It doesn't. I won't be returning.

I left my phone number for him to "research" the issue. He NEVER called me back and this is the second time this happened. Seriously if you don't have your faculties together then it's time to hang up the saddle and retire. Your real estate is worth tons of money - sell the place vs. keeping hours of 8:30 to 5pm with no weekend hours. This place is a Bay View historical site and it will be a very sad day if it ever goes away. I want to thank the man behind the counter. You carry yourself as a man who know what he is doing, and you left a lasting impression even just for a man fixing his dryer. I was frankly a little skeptical about taking my 9-10 year old Craftsman 24" snow blower (that's…read morenever been serviced) to Nelson's after reading all the negative feedback on Yelp, but it wasn't starting up and I had no clue how to fix it. The guy there was nice and helped me get it out of the back of my SUV. When I asked for quote for figuring out why it's not starting up, he said they charge $85/hour and would call me with an estimate once they take a look at it. I dropped it off on Saturday, Mar.14. They called me with a detail quote two business days later on Tuesday, Mar.17. They suggested more efficient and cost effective way of fixing it would be replacing the carb assembly. They also pointed out one of my tires was low which caused the auger scraper to wear unevenly and recommended replacing that as well. Spark plug was original and new one was pretty cheap, so I asked him to replace it, too. By Thursday, Mar.19, they fixed the engine not starting issue with the new card assembly, put in a new spark plug, tire innertube, new auger scraper, flushed the fuel system and put in some non ethanol fuel, which they told me has a 12 month shelf life, so I can keep that in the tank till next season vs regular gas only lasts about 30 - 45 days, so that should always be used up before storing it away after the winter. All that (see the last pic of the invoice for more detail) for $243.08 and some great advice along the way. Hopefully the snow blower will last many more seasons, especially now that I know how to better take care of it. I guess others who left all that negative feedback and low rating had some bad experience, but mine was great and I would certainly recommend giving Nelson Bros a shot!
