Since we moved to Chapel Apple, I haven't had an excuse to try any new ones though, until now. And so it came to pass that I spent a delightful half hour at The Laundry Room this morning. It's next door to Angel's Share, which is our pub of choice thanks to happy hour cocktails and Red Stripe, so it's easy to spot. It's also distinctly unlike any other laundrette I've been in, with its flat screen telly showing Saturday morning baking shows, its IKEA chairs and lovely sage green windowsills. £2.80 for a normal wash, £4.80 for a large one, and plenty of dryers (big and small). There's also a dry cleaning and service wash service, but the main draw is that it's just really lovely.

Amazing that, yes, even the people of Chapel A. still have to go to the launderette! But it doesn't look like the launderettes I have encountered before - it is amazingly clean and well presented, neatly laid out and quite spacious. Its not a DIY job - you don't have to watch your own washing spin round hundreds of times as there is the lady working there will keep an eye on it for you and you can pick it up later on. Perfect! And they have massive tumble dryers so you don't have to walk home with a bag full of damp clothes.

They have a wide range of offers on each month such as 10% off carpets or 10% off curtains. In the dry cleaners they are really friendly and jokey, the atmosphere is very professional and the building is really neat and clean (funnily enough). They are worth a visit if you need anything cleaned and you are looking for a very professional service. Or if you fancy a spring clean and want the most high tech, daddy of all fabric cleaning methods for your upholstery, give them a call.

Every time I returned he told me that my jacket was in his other shop and that he would either call me or my husband to come and collect or have my jacket delivered to my house. He never once called and the jacket was not dropped off at my house despite waiting in on a number of evenings. This man makes many promises to your face just to get you out of the shop, DO NOT TRUST HIM! On my last visit to the shop, (you have to go in to get a response from him) he admitted the jacket was lost, and told me I would have to supply the jacket item code for his insurers to pay me.....I provided this a couple of months ago and again have heard nothing, despite chasing again and again. I appreciate accidents happen and things get lost, but it's the fact that this man just fobs you off, and tells you anything to shut you up and get you out of the shop. Please, please, please take my advice and go to another dry cleaners. I'll be telling all my friends the same

When I entered the shop to get a price list, it was like a sauna. A slightly flustered lady was ironing with gusto. She looked far more composed than I would with the mountains of laundry that surrounded her. As well as ironing, Ironzitself also offers washing, repairs and dry cleaning services. Open seven days a week, the prices range from £1.10 - £2.55 per shirt, depending on what you want doing to it. This does seem pricey if you had a load, but I am sure to some of the high flying business types, this service is invaluable. I do know a certain individual who, when running out of laundry, buys a new shirt for work if he has not got the time or inclination to sort the situation out. So this would actually save him money. The dry cleaning prices seem fairly average. A well used business for this area.

However, in a post panic period of unusual calmness, my Yelp search led me to Ironzitself (a brilliant name, which has since changed). For 4 weeks now, Ironzitself has taken care of all of my laundry without hassle or complaint, returning all the clothes a couple of days later beautifully clean. The only downside is that it is a cash only business (although there is a cash point at Sainsbury's just around the corner).

Massively irritating…read more The worst thing about these dry clean garments is that they are usually the most expensive ones. So, you spend £100 or so on a garment, and then you need to spend more each time you use it! For the most part, I try to get away with washing them as usual. But there are those stubborn items which just need to be dry cleaned. So, having finally become decadent enough to own some of these items, I decided to have them dry cleaned. My Mum was staying and she offered to drop them off at Johnsons - I think mostly for the novelty of the fact that it is a drive through dry cleaners! It could not have been more simple. She dropped them in, and the friendly lady processed the order and said that they would be ready the next day. Simple as that, the next day she went to collect them and they were as good as new! I suppose the only criticism would be that it is (obviously) easier for car owners to get to, but it is at least on the main Headingley bus route. Other than that, good prices, good efficient service, job done!

I am not quite grown up enough to simultaneously own a car, an item of clothing that requires dry cleaning and have a job that requires driving into town but it is still a pretty convenient location for those rogue items that are 'dry clean only'. The service is quick, returning the items good as new the next day!
