The apartment we rented for the weekend washer dryer does not work. Panic attack as we are leaving for Edinburgh in the morning. I called at 9:55am and the owner offered to pick up and deliver. We needed a load done. I called at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday, he said to bring it over. We arrived at 9:00 a.m and left it with him. We came back to our hotel at 12:30 p.m. and it was washed and folded and waiting in our room. He also gave us some great York advice! It was a great experience!! We had a situation that involved getting a duvet cover cleaned. The owner went out of his way to not only clean the duvet in only a few hours but to direct and physically show us points of interest that we should see during our stay in York. We took our laundry here while traveling. Service was fast and clothes were returned to our hotel same day, which was very much appreciated. HOWEVER, I had a few spots on my clothing. I know what caused the spots and I am 100% certain they would come out in my home wash using Tide, even if I didn't pre-treat. I am not traveling with any delicate fabrics. Clothes were returned smelling much better, but all spots remained. Price would have been fair if clothes had actually been washed properly. Disappointed, but less stinky. read more

"Carol K" (I) posted a 1-star review the other day for the frustration of miscommunication and fear our laundry was lost when we discovered it hadn't been delivered and this launderette was closed til Monday. I take it back. When we checked out of the Hampton Hilton York this morning, our clean laundry was waiting at the Front Desk. what a relief! The owner is diligent and conscientious, and went above and beyond. One suggestion : make sure they write down your mobile phone number on their identification tag when you drop off your laundry. read more

We came here because they had great reviews and were a short walk from our hotel in York. We were not disappointed. They took the clothes and very kindly offered to drop them back off at the hotel later that day. Everything came back clean and folded and ready for the rest of our trip. Got large load of laundry washed today. Dropped it off at 9:10am, picked it up around 1:30pm. They were waiting for us to pick it up before closing/deliveries and everything was neatly folded and completely clean. They did ask if I wanted cold or warm so that was nice since I usually wash all my colored items cold. Friendly, easy to get to (walked about 14 mins from near the Shambles). Price was very reasonable for same day service. read more

we dropped off a small load of my husband's heatwave-smelly clothes on Saturday morning, and when asked, requested they be delivered to the Hilton York (and made it clear it wasn't the sister site, Hilton Piccadilly, York). We were assured they would be delivered to our hotel within a few hours. We got back to the hotel at 5pm to find no clothes, and the launderette closed til Monday (we leave York Sunday). Called all the other York Hiltons, and they didn't have our laundry. The launderette owner didn't call us, either. We were impressed by Yelp reviews of this launderette left by other tourists, and were willing to pay £30, only to have our clothes vanish. Plus, we will spend hours of our last day in York searching for and purchasing enough shirts to last my husband for the rest of this trip, so we're potentially out several hundred pounds, thanks to the Walmgate Bar Launderette. warning: take weak/negative reviews very seriously. I used their service and they washed and dried everything for me because I was on a time crunch. My washer had broken down and I needed a quick job and it was exactly that. At the end of the day, he even offered to drop it off at my house as a courtesy. From now on, I will always go to them for my services. 100% worth your time to go to. dropped off laundry while on a visit in york and everything was wonderful. i had white pants that had stains in them and they were sparkling clean no more stains. service was quick everything was folded neatly and the woman working was just lovel. they delivered it back to our hotel a few hours later at probably half the cost of what the hotel would have charge. highly recommend read more

We're visiting York and wanted to refill our supply of clean clothes without breaking our travel budget. I filled my boarding bag and headed off to Walmgate Bar Launderette. It's just a bit inside the Walmgate Bar (gate) in sight of the city walls. The owner had a sign "Back in 2 Minutes" and he was. He just had delivered another customer's washing to their hotel. "I'll take care of your washing and drying (and folding) and you can come back in about an hour." All true! He is a very friendly and personable man who cares for his customers. Off we went for a stroll, a coffee, and upon our return, he said, "Your washing is ready." For a fair price, we were ready to continue our trip. Thank you, thank you. read more

We were visiting York for a few days during a 2 week trip from the USA and needed a few things washed. I searched Yelp for 'laundry service' near our hotel and this was the closest.... we were a little nervous about it since no reviews had been posted. I called the place to be sure they were in fact open, then headed over with our laundry. We dropped it off and were told they would deliver our clean clothes to our hotel, after they closed at 5 pm. We were going from there to the York Castle Museum, and he even told us of a shortcut. After our tour we walked back to our hotel, and were pleasantly surprised to find our clean laundry had already been delivered! This was well before 5 pm, and everything was clean and neatly folded. Needed to clean a large down mattress topper, which I do every six months. I was disappointed with the last company I used who not only returned the topper whilst still a little damp, but it also took them nearly a week to complete. Decided to try Walmgate Bar Launderette a try and experienced a service that can only be described as first class. I explained to the owner that I was in no rush, but he phoned me the very next morning to tell me it was ready (convenient for me since it was the weekend!).
