My hygienist remembered talking about my work a year ago and I thought that was really awesome since they see so many people. She got me in and out in 30 mins. I became extremely distressed and was crying, and explained that I was considering a different treatment approach, including extraction and dentures, and why I felt that was more appropriate for me. I was told to discuss this with my husband, and the cleaning proceeded. I felt too overwhelmed in that moment to get up and leave after I had already signed for the treatment. I do not feel I was given enough information at the time I signed to make an informed decision, and the information provided afterward significantly changed my treatment preference. I left feeling that I had not been given a meaningful opportunity to make my own decision about whether to proceed. When I complained, the office told me that it is their standard procedure to have patients sign for treatment before the dentist discusses their dental findings with them.
