It's a vehicle that's not all that commonly available in this part of the country, and our price limit was right at the limit of what would be reasonable. He listened to us very carefully, asked lots of important questions, then set out on what can only be properly described as a "quest" -- and FOUND exactly what we were looking for! He was able to negotiate a great deal on it for us, then brought it back to the shop. This is where it gets even more wonderful, because the shop is known for being owned and operated by a mechanic with a sterling personal reputation and professional credentials, having trained in a shop up in Guilford, VT that is literally known as the very best one in the whole area. They assured us they'd go through and fix anything and everything on the vehicle that needed tweeking or repair before we picked it up, to make sure it was up to THEIR standards of excellence -- and that the price would not go above our limit even if they had to eat some of the cost. They explained this is because they shopped for the vehicle with their mechanical expertise, so if it cost more to fix it was that they'd assessed it wrong and should make good on it. Well, long story short, we took delivery of exactly the used vehicle we wanted, in perfect shape, looking like it came off a showroom floor, and it's everything we could have dreamed and hoped for. In the process, we found a mechanic we'll use and trust from now on, and made friends to boot! It's not easy to find a really superior mechanic and shop that has a personal value system based on ethics of doing what's right. Green River Auto is that place! And if you want a used car, I honestly do not see how you can do ANY better than you will if you go talk to Doug there. If he can't find it for you, it's not available. I've lived all over the country, from Texas to California and back again, and I have NEVER found a shop like this one, and never even imagined a person like Doug existed. He folded up his business and moved, taking all warranties for the work he performed there with him (or more likely shredded all paperwork.) He installed a catalytic converter on my car in July 2008 and it failed in less than 6 months; from the point it failed I calmly and patiently called and called and he was always "too busy" to get me in to replace it; even though he told me it had a lifetime guarantee. Cars go in, but often do not come back out. I would never, ever trust him; my car is now at another mechanic who told me that BOTH catalytics were throwing codes and this same new mechanic fixed a problem that had been occurring for 3 years in, LITERALLY, five minutes; something that Mr. Mis could not figure out. This place has a very bad rap when you ask around for a good reason. They largely benefit from…read morebeing the only transmission service in town. Last year when my check engine light came on and I brought my car to them, they told me that my whole transmission needed replacing right then, because it could fail in the next few months. (I've waited to give this review for that reason). They were urging me to get the work started right then, a cool $2800 right after I was out of work with a cancer diagnosis, and in desperate need of a working car to get to Boston for life-saving treatment, which I even told them. I was panicking more than any other time in my life, so I went out of town to get a second opinion. The other shop I found (in Springfield) tinkered with it for a few minutes for free and assured me it would be ok and was not a safety issue. 14 months later, my transmission is still doing just fine. I wish I had the resources to talk to a lawyer; this is unconscionable business practice. It put me under even more totally unnecessary stress than I was already facing, and it wasn't even true. And for the service of looking at the transmission, they charged me over $90 without mentioning before that it would cost so much. Even while they were explaining all this work I supposedly needed, they treated me like I was wasting their time, because they (I think Dave) kept saying "normally we work on cars that need $5,000-$7,000 in work", like mine was barely worth the dirt on the tires to them because it's old and basic. I still can't believe they tried to do that to me while I was facing a threat like cancer, needing to know that my car could get me to appointments safely.

My last vist was to get my side skirts installed, as well as some other small tweaks in bumper fitment, ect. I picked up the car 9am Wednesday July 23rd. Once getting to work around noon the sunlight was out and I was grabbing something from my trunk, I then saw multiple harsh scratches aswell as 2 cracks in my left tail light. I then texted over a photo to the shop and was immediately told it wasn't them and not their fault. After getting bombarded with texts and calls from the worker I got the owner's contact. He said he would look into it and apologized for the troubles. A few days later I had gotten a quote for replacing the lens and we got into contact again, the worker said he would give me $100, then later that day the owner called me and said he would give me $300 to go towards the replacement. I told him I would pick it up Wednesday July 30th. Wednesday July 30th I got up early on my one day off of work and went over to the shop with the tail light. The owner wasn't there, but the worker was. He then spent 20 minutes throwing out bs excuses and eventually said he cant take responsibility for it and refused to give me the money I was promised. I will never do buisness with that asshole ever again and I recommend you dont either if you care about your car and your money. He also didnt do a good job on the work. The job seems half done and parts feel off after he "anchored" them down. Charged a fortune too!

In the grand scheme of things I know this was a really small job, but I felt like they treated me as well as any other customer. I'll definitely head back to Jay's the next time I need work done.
