Smith's Central was built in 1929 and operated as one of the very first Standard Oil Service Stations in Northern Illinois. In 1963, Hostess-Wonderbread purchased the building and would call it "home" until 2013 when they closed their doors and moved to their next location. In 2016, extensive renovations and restorations began on what is now Smith's Central Weddings + Events. Fast forward to present day, Smith's has hosted and provided the backdrop to over 400 weddings and special events. I recently attended a Celebration of Life for the spouse of a friend. It is located in the downtown area of McHenry with plenty of street parking near by. Upon entering the venue, they have a large area for tables or high tops for your event. In the back is the bar with another area with high tops and food. I've never been to downtown McHenry & this place is just fabulous if you are looking for a place to have your wedding or any other event. I highly suggest you check this place out!

We discovered this place a couple of years ago when my son got his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. He had gotten several letters from the Legion asking him to become a member. He asked me to go with to the Legion to see what it was about. The Legion bar is open to the public. They also have an area with slot machines.
