Well, time for an update on Abraham. Yes, this amazingly talented man is still at work! It had been…read morea few years since I was so pleased with his work on making new cushions for my couches. A new opportunity to use his services presented when I found a couple of very nice teak chairs in the trash area behind my condo building. I rescued them, knowing they'd look good with the teak steamer chair I already had, but which also needed a new cushion. I had previously looked online for that cushion and on eBay. The very nice ones I saw were very expensive, and most of the others lacked the piping the original cushion had--none were in the colors/patterns I wanted either. Then I remembered Abraham and College Upholstery. Bingo! Again, I hit up Zimman's and bought Sunbrella fabric in the colors and patterns I liked. Then I loaded one of the chairs into my car and headed over to his place. The chair cushions were a little tricky: the seats were curved in the front. Abraham made two beautiful four-inch cushions with piped edges and added chair ties--a very nice touch I hadn't even thought to ask for. He also made a great new cushion for the steamer chair. Again I have to commend this guy for his excellent workmanship, more than fair prices, and devotion to his craft that goes, I believe, beyond satisfying any specific customer and has more to do with his desire for perfection and pride in his workmanship. I've attached a couple of pics: just look at the cushions cuz I haven't found the time to clean and restore the chairs yet! Can't think of any other upholstery needs I have--but if and when I ever do, I'll hope Abraham hasn't yet retired. Visit him and get those projects done while you can!

Half of them refused the job and the other half told me that a costly reupholstering was the way to go, not repair. Abraham (owner of College Upholstery) came to my rescue. He and Jorge saw pictures of the damage, came by the next day for pick up and quoted a shockingly low quote of $175 to patch the damaged square up. I got my couch back today. They had to patch 4 of the squares to make the couch look perfect, but they did not charge me any more than the quoted initial cost. They even refilled the foam that was picked away by said Demogorgon Dog. Before and After pictures below so that everyone can see the precision and perfection of their work. Can't even tell where the damage was. I HIGHLY recommend College Upholstery for any of your repair/reupholstery needs.

Melo & Sons Upholstery - Cabot House custom sofa disassembled and reassembled

Who knew that furniture disassembly and reassembly was a thing? I certainly didn't until I treated…read moremyself to an extra cozy Boston Interiors sectional and the sofa portion wouldn't fit up my front or back staircase. Whoops! I had already been waiting two months for delivery, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Then the panic kicked in. Since it was a custom sectional, I would get majorly dinged if I returned it. But what other options were there? That's where Melo and Sons came in. The delivery guy put me on the phone with his manager to talk it over. Yes, returning the sectional was an option, as was taking out my dining room window to bring the sofa portion in that way (hell no!) Or... I could have some pros disassemble it at their warehouse then reassemble it in my living room. Of my three options, the third was the winner by a longshot. As I was the first delivery of the day, I patiently waited until Melo and Sons opened then gave them a ring. Joanne immediately answered and put my nerves at ease. It was obvious I wasn't the first numpty to purchase a too big piece of furniture that needed saving by them. After providing her all the requested information, I had a delivery date for about three weeks out. By the time my Boston Interiors salesperson called to discuss the failed delivery, everything was already tucked and tied with Melo and Sons. When the big day finally arrived, Mike and George showed up right on time and quickly got to work. They laid down moving blankets to protect the floor then brought up the disassembled sofa in several carefully wrapped pieces. Aside from being the consummate professionals, they were funny to boot. It took them less than two hours to reassemble the sofa and at long last reunite it with its other half. That evening, after three long months, I finally got to relax on and enjoy my sectional in its full glory. All thanks to Melo and Sons and their niche specialty.

I emailed Melo & Sons and quickly received a response with a quote from Joanne, who was extremely nice and helpful. An appointment was scheduled on 1/16/26 between 10-12. However, they came early, which was greatly appreciated. The two men that showed up were two for the nicest people. Both men had that leather sectional disassembled, brought up the stairs and reassembled in a few hours. After all their hard work, you can't even tell that the sectional was taken apart and put back together. NO scratches, dents, or rips. There work was impeccable. I sincerely want to Thank them for everything, because my couch would still be sitting in my hallway if it wasn't for their help.

We were greeted at the loading dock and my heavy chair was whisked onto a dolly and we were escorted back to the room where the work is done. BJ's has an extensive collection of fabrics and colors to choose from and they showed me some different types based on the colors and type of fabric we sought. There was a beautiful fabric that they had which was sturdy and a gorgeous shade between mauve and red and we selected that for grandmother's chair. The price was so reasonable--$120 for the fabric and $630 for the work which included disassembly of the chair to check for parts that may need replacing due to rot or damage, checking the swivel system of ball bearings, and re-filling the cushion with new foam. I was given an estimated completion date and it was done when estimated. They delivered the chair to my home (up two flights of steps) and the unveiling took place. The workmanship was outstanding! The chair looks more beautiful than ever and I think my grandmother is smiling down on us. She would be so pleased! If you have a piece of furniture you are considering getting reupholstered, you must have the talents at BJ's Upholstery perform their magic on it, you will be amazed at how good your older furniture looks with fresh upholstery. Thank you BJ's!
