(From running around drunk) Called Johns and they had someone get in the car and drive all the from their shop in Metairie to Audubon Zoo in 5 o'clock traffic on a Friday just to hand deliver a new pair of pants. First time renting from here and the process of getting fitted was so easy. I just walked in and someone was immediately available to help me. They had me fitted in under 5 minutes and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. They gave me a card with very specific pickup times which was great because it's always a little tricky wondering if places' times have changed post covid. He also let me know that they have all the material and personnel in house so if my measurements change at all over the next 5 weeks and adjustments need to be made day of when I pick, they can do that no problem. Best customer service, friendly check-in calls to update us if we needed to chase up sizing requests, and most impressively they were able to move people through efficiently even during a busy spring wedding/prom season. They worked with our budget, had the perfect color combos to match our theme, and answered style questions truthfully yet professionally. They also helped coordinate handoff of cuff links I purchased to surprise my husband with without him having a clue, even though I wasn't there at the time of rental pick up. A good friend of mine passed away and I needed a new suit quickly in order to travel to California for the funeral. Without hesitation I went to John's, met Mike, one of the owners, picked out a suit, got it pinned for tailoring and left. This is my one and only stop for tuxedos. I first called to check on when they were closing and I was told they would be closing in about 30 mins. I got there with around 15 mins before closing time. In spite of this fact, I was never rushed, I was measured expertly and allowed to select exactly which tuxedo characteristics would set me off for Zulu Ball 2019. The price was more than acceptable and as I said the service was truly exemplary. I came in to get a tuxedo for the evening and left with that tuxedo in less than an hour. After getting the tuxedo and going to put everything on, the dress shirt smelled TERRIBLE. It had a STRONG body odor smell in it... as if it had not been cleaned. It was rather disgusting and unpleasant. Very upsetting to receive a shirt in this condition. I give them 2 stars because other than that, the staff were nice and easy to work with. The tuxedos looked like they had a lot of miles on them and honestly should have been retired. The ties looked the same or maybe they were just super poor quality. Threads were coming out, and if someone told me they washed the tuxedos in a home washing machine, I wouldn't be surprised. They looked and felt very "used" Fortunately, I don't think these tuxedos shortcomings were visible in the pictures, but the quality was evident to anyone in person. Wedding was great and nothing was ruined, but when you have a crew dropping $2600 on renting clothes, you expect a certain level of quality that I feel, was not delivered. Additionally, the day before the wedding they did not have all the shoes and ties in stock to be picked up. I will say this, the service was great. I wish i could give them a better review. The guys who work there are really nice and helpful. Everything was going fine until I start getting dressed two hours before my event, the shirt was SO BIG around my neck, I couldn't even get the tie on. It was huge. The gap between the shirt and my neck was probably 3 inches or more. I should have buttoned the top button when I tried everything on at the store, but honestly I can't take the blame for this. If the guy can't measure a neck then he should be in another businesses. Long story short- I actually had to go and buy a tuxedo shirt at a store near my home because this wasn't useable. Real shame. Well, as promised, I did show up at John's for my wedding. And as expected, I did receive impeccable service. Throughout the whole process, one of the guys worked with me to make sure I looked sharp for my wedding. I brought in a photo of how I wanted to look and told my salesman that my standard was that I'd like to look better than a guy who just walked in there to get a last-minute tux for a ball. Well, he did that and more. He worked with me on every last detail, from the cuff links, to my hard-to-fit size, to the specially sized ties that had to be ordered. He stayed with me and kept me focused on giving my pants a nice, close fit and just the break I wanted at the shoe, while avoiding a high-water or too-small look. And when I showed up there for a last-minute try-on, I was treated like royalty. Adjustments, suggestions, alterations were made on the spot, and the look I wanted was achieved. My groomsmen looked fantastic too. A few days ago, when I got fitted for the Irish Channel parade, one of the salesmen recognized me and asked how did the wedding go. You cannot beat that kind of service and attention to detail. I renew my five-star review; I'll continue going to John's, without even checking in with the competition; and I recommend them, without reservation, to anyone for any kind of formal wear. read more
