Recently my husband had some medical issues. He called over the weekend to check on him and shared his cell number to make sure we had the care he needed while he was out of the office. His kindness and willingness to go out of his way was impressive!!

As anyone who's read my other reviews will know, I always have to preface medical reviews by saying that I've been a nurse for over 20 years and tend to be pretty critical of healthcare in general, so a 3-star rating for this office would be a 4-star rating for anything non-medical. Just to provide some perspective...... Getting an appointment with Dr. Fry can sometimes be a challenge, and his office staff are not the friendliest people on the planet. They've never been overtly rude, but just kind of abrupt. However, as I've sat waiting in the waiting room I've overheard multiple phone calls that appear to be from long-time patients (apparently HIPAA rules don't apply here) who seem to have a good rapport with the staff, so maybe we just haven't broken the ice yet. The waiting room itself is pretty small, and I had to laugh at the signs taped to the walls telling you to please sit up straight in the chairs....to improve your posture but also to make the chairs last longer. I can honestly say I've never seen that before in a doctor's office! Be prepared to wait a while, as I've yet to see him run on schedule. Our longest wait was about 45 minutes, but typically it's only about 15 minutes past our appointment time. The actual amount of time spent with Dr. Fry has never been more than 10 minutes, and that's a LONG visit, so I can only assume that his other patients are more complex and require more of his time. As for Dr. Fry himself.....he's a bit too casual for my tastes, but it works for my son. His general appearance is reminiscent of a college stoner who's just rolled out of bed. He's very direct and kind of "jokey" with his instructions, but he gets his point across and does listen to what you're telling him. Like I said, this is a little too casual for me, but for a 19 yr old boy it's just what he needs to make him feel comfortable and open up to talk to him. So if my son is happy and getting good care, I'm happy.....end of story.

My appointment was set for 4:30p & I was not seen for an hour+ without forthcoming communication of what the delay was for. I had to ask at least 3 times and their response was just "trying", yet I'm sure if I used that same reason as to why I was "trying" to be on time for my appointment but was an hour late, I'm sure I would've been charged for my absence. I don't appreciate my time being dismissed, especially without communication. But to address care quality once seated in a room, was fine. The staff in that regard was attentive and quick.

"Good afternoon, I am writing to share my experience at your Edgewater, MD location today. While I was impressed by the professionalism and kindness of everyone I interacted with, I unfortunately received an incorrect initial diagnosis. I came in for an x-ray of my pinky finger and was initially told that there were no breaks or fractures. However, I later received a call from PA Ben confirming that a hairline fracture was detected after further review by the radiologist. I understand that medical errors can happen, but I believe it would have been beneficial to wait for the radiologist's report before providing a definitive diagnosis. Additionally, knowing about the hairline fracture, I would have appreciated the opportunity to have my finger wrapped as a precautionary measure. Despite this, I want to commend the staff for their overall care and attention. I hope this feedback can be used to improve future patient experiences. Thank you for your time and consideration." This was my experience in a nutshell. Needless to say, I won't be returning.

I've been seeing Dr. Reibman for over a decade; he's GREAT. Although he's retiring, I've also had great care the couple times I went for urgent help and was assigned another doctor. That's one of the BEST things about the MPCP Annapolis office - options! You can see somebody quickly, or you can do telemedicine. There's only one downside: they don't always answer the phone. BUT if you are close enough to drive, just do that - we've always had great results just going in when we had the need.

When she left she recommended another doctor who was also good. I had found the truth about why she left. It was because of the office rules and regulations. I tried to schedule another appointment but the staff refused to schedule an appointment when I wanted it because of office policy. My husband was Iooking into the practice years ago when his doctor went concierge. They insisted on a meet and greet which wasn't covered by insurance.

Dr. Marcalus went from a decent doctor with an awkward-but-straightforward bedside manner and…read morerapport to a money and cost-focused time bomb. His switch to concierge medicine is clearly a play to push out all but the most wealthy patients in Edgewater and Annapolis. I had been a young patient of the doctor's for a year. He was recommended to me. His practice sent out a notice that they were switching to a concierge model, which if you don't know, involves paying $1,200+ a year in addition to your co-pays and insurance. His letters didn't mention that small detail. When I called and a family member also inquired, Dr. M lost it, screaming that he "has thousands of patients and can't be concerned with the problems of one considering joining my practice." I would avoid this doctor. Granted, the state of healthcare in this country is challenging and how it's going to affect patients and doctors is unclear. But here's what is clear: some doctors are going to tack away from a patient-focused care model to a cost/revenue-driven model. Doctor Marcalus is one of those doctors. If you're joining his practice for perceived closer-care and 24-7 access, take this vignette as a warning. This doctor doesn't care about you. The doctor's Hippocratic Oath seems to have been to the wayside: he doesn't seem to care what harm he does.

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Marcalus for about 10 years and in that time he has…read moredisplayed competence and compassion that leaves me convinced I am in very good hands. I've had three prior internists/PCP over my lifetime, they all retired one-by-one, but I would rate Dr. Marcalus right along with the best of them. He listens without my feeling rushed and has proven himself an excellent diagnostician that recommends appropriate and effective care for the case at hand. The cost to join this practice model is not insubstantial, but there are many value-added benefits other than just access to the doctor. A very comprehensive physical exam that my insurance would never pay for is included every year as well as on-line medical records. I never have to go to an outside lab for blood work as Dr. Marcalus has blood drawn in his office by a full-time resident phlebotomist. The proof of this practice model, with this particular doctor, is in the care and attention my wife and I receive anytime we need it. And I do mean ... anytime. I am in contact with Dr. Marcalus via e-mail and text and I have his personal cellphone number. We try not to abuse the privilege, but sometimes that cannot be helped and Dr. Marcalus never seems put out or disturbed no matter the hour or day of the week. In a word, he is responsive ... no matter what. I admit this type of medical practice is not for everyone. Many cannot afford it, many would not pay the price regardless of their ability to pay, but it's an option that is available and well worth considering. It is a personal decision about our own healthcare that my wife and I found easy to make.
