I wanted to give these guys ten stars. Not for the service necessarily, but for another reason. My 2014 Cherokee was leaking oil for a week, so I went to John's website and got an appointment. Upon taking it in, it was a routine check in/drop off procedure. They got back to me the same day, but here's where they won me over. My repair was fully covered under Jeep warranty, so taking it to the dealer would cost $0. Al, who advised me of my options said I could just go get it fixed free at the dealer (which he communicated to them before I went). The point is that these guys could have easily gone the "shady auto shop" route and charged me for something the warranty covered, but instead these guys were honest. Been going here for over 5 years now and have never had a bad experience. Even though John's Automotive has very fair prices, I went with a little cheaper quote on a rear main seal job...boy was that a mistake! John's ended up having to re-do the job that the other shop screwed up. Not only did they fix it right but they took pictures of how they found it And explained how it had been done wrong which helped me get my money back from the other shop. read more

Fast forward 2 years and 3 months. Remember that timing belt? I just had to get a new one after the water pump failed. I took their advice in 2008 and replaced the water pump at the same time. If I didn't, they said the old water pump will usually fail after the timing belt is replaced. The timing belt drives the pump and it's mostly labor costs to tear down the engine. Even though I replaced the water pump, it failed anyway. And the warranty on that water pump? Two years...go figure! Well good ol' Bob contacted the manufacturer and got them to give me a new water pump. I still got stuck with the $300 labor cost, but that's better than the $570 or so total it was last time. I can't fault the service garage for a bad pump, it was an OEM part after all. I'm just thankful that Bob went to bat for me and got some of the cost knocked off. read more

I am basing my review on routine maintenance performed. (Fortunately, I haven't needed any major work since moving to the area.) The staff was friendly and helpful during my call to schedule service and on the day of service. I didn't have to wait long during the service. This is all good, but probably true of many places. What set this service apart from other good automotive service I've had was the Vehicle Inspection Report I received. I got a text with a link to the report. It was like other reports I've received when getting vehicles serviced - a multi-point inspection with color-coded indicators of the status of each item . . . with pictures! I could see the air filters, the fluid checks, and the corrosion on my battery terminals (which made me feel more comfortable authorizing a little extra work). Maybe this is the future, but it was a first for me. Very helpful! My only slight disappointment is that I prefer to wait during service, and this option is usually reserved for early morning or early afternoon. It would be nice to have a little more scheduling flexibility, so I give John's 4.5 stars, (rounded up)! read more

We have been bringing our vehicles to John's for several years. Bob and Al are great to work with, explain the issues and help you get back on the road as cheaply as possible. I have a confidence that when it needs to be fixed, they will find it the first time, but when it doesn't need fixing, they won't pile on the recommended work simply to increase your bill. read more

My son had bought a brand new starter from one of the auto stores,when they installed it in the car it would not start. They spent 2 days trying to fix it. They about tore the whole engine out. I finally contacted John's to see if they could tow it and figure out what was wrong with the car. When speaking with AL, he reassured me they would tow it and take a look at it. The next day he calls and stated it was in fact the starter. They fixed the problem that day at a very reasonable price. Al also told us how to take the new one back he had purchased. I was charged $618 for parts and labor, finding out later that Denny's Muffler would do same work for $440 (I requested exact estimate on all work done). I understand a small business may charge a little more, but the difference in price in this case was ridiculous. I since have talked with others who were similarly grossly overcharged for services performed. I also was told by the owner, that I could bring in the car for a rear tail-light repair (when the part came in) and 'we'll work it in, will only take 15 minutes or so'. When I brought the car in on a Friday at 4:15pm (shop closes at 5:30pm), I was told by the daughter, 'oh, no, we can't do it now, we're trying to close up for the weekend, you needed to call and schedule a time'. I always try to support local small businesses where I can, but I don't appreciate being taken advantage of by such a price range extreme. I understand there are business expenses (trying to pay more than minimum wage, shop tools, etc), but I also have a business to run and maintain -- it's called MY HOME BUDGET -- and I do not feel I need to overpay at such a rate for any future work. I would suggest scaling down the extensive website, etc, and making your pricing more realistic and competitive, if you would like repeat business. You might have also had repeat business from me if you'd made any attempt to offer even a small partial refund or credit, but since all I received was a list of excuses about how expensive it is to run a business, I have the impression that repeat business isn't really that important. read more
