Came into town for a wedding and ducked in here before checking into hotel. The bloody mary spot on. Service friendly and attentive. Establishment looked clean. I've lived in Munster for 22 years and probably been the Johnny's 50 times. Always been a really clean local joint. My wife and I took our dog Woodford there today for his first bar experience and it was a blast. Everybody was so welcoming. Can't wait to take him back and chill outside this summer. went last night after 'Za and a movie......needed to get out.....its an ok place..... just live down the street so its easy access..... beer is cold.....people are all over the map... from your grandparents age to kids not gettin served for no ID .....kinda wierd though when your friends parents are there and send over a pitcher :-) but hey... FREE BEER :-) when i was growing up i remember my dad calling this place the *Loser Bar* haha..... now IM there lol actually a cool little neighborhood hangout....too bright inside to be a real dive....strange seating...bar too high, seats too low..... you feel like a little kid at the bar......a few booths....and like long communal tables....which can turn out fun or turn into a disaster ....... also im pissed they took out the golden tee game.....i can rock on that thing ....the replaced it with a video bags game.... wth is that about? video bags?? beer prices a little high for the area and what it is.... but $1.00 tacos on fridays....nuthin great but something to eat so you dont fall over going home :-) good jukebox.... good darts ( i suck at that ) all in all not a bad little place..... its kinda cool though, my grandfather used to drink here..... family traditions are cool, huh? lol read more

Divey place but great, if you stay late enough there is usually this guy that comes around selling cheap tamales... get them, you will NOT be sorry!!! You can get bar pizza which is Dorreens and pretty good. There are regulars and mixes of new folks. It isn't really loud so it is easy to talk to one another. They operate with cash only, there IS an ATM right there so that helps! read more

not a bad place to go to in Munster, but not the best either. This place definitly has it's regulars and it's kinda dive-y but not quite dingy enough. The bartender guy in the evenings is pretty nice and is always prompt and efficient even if it's busy, which is kind of admirable. The seting is kind of jacked up, with these long tables in front of a row of booths, which is always retarded when it's crowded. It's also freakin hot in this joint for some reason, which I can't stand. But, those are just small complaints about an otherwise decent bar. Unfortunately we missed Mr. Fun, but we still had a great time when we stopped in at Johnny's Tap after a visit to Three Floyds! Every time we've driven by, the promise that "Mr. Fun is here" makes us think about stopping in...so finally, we did. Great little dive bar complete with darts, Ms. Pacman, a jukebox, friendly bartenders, great prices, and frosty mugs...a little smokey inside, but an A-ok establishment in my book. So I am a new patron of Johnny's. They serve a bottled beer I like and it's very cold. I can count on it. However, there are many other things you can't count on which I wish you could. Some bartenders can bar tend and others can't. But for my purposes tonight I'm not going to concentrate on that. What I am going to concentrate on is this. I went in there tonight to get a cold beer and see the first night of the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately, I guess the new owners don't comprehend one of the biggest nights of the year, if not the biggest night of the year when it comes to sports. In their defense they had some of the games on. However, they had open mic night. Here's the issue. In my opinion there is no way you should have open mic night or any other entertainment for the next four days or next weekend for that matter. The NCAA Basketball tournament is the biggest draw to any bar in the whole country from Thursday through Sunday. People take vacation days to see this plethora of games. I don't care if you are this little small bar in Munster, IN. All the TV's and the audio should be directed to this tournament at this time. Open mic night and any second-rate entertainment should be postponed for a few weeks while this tournament is going on. Here's the lesson...you don't need to pay for entertainment during this period of time. The entertainment is free right on your TV's. You just need a competent owner and bartender to care about this tournament and to tune the TV's to the appropriate channels and play the audio of the best game that's on. Anyway...very disappointed in new ownership. You don't pay attention to the details. You're leaving a lot of money out there when you do things like this and you blow it with new clientele. Drove by here visiting a friend and the place was packed. I convinced him to go in and what a fun place this was. Has a dive bar feel without being a total dirty dice bar. A DJ was spinning and everyone was having fun. Very friendly people. Emily was the bartender and she was great. Definitely a new hang out. read more

Wow. As I understand Johnny's is under new management. No smoking inside! They also put in a iron fence in front of the place and made a little out door patio area in the front and the side of the establishment. Without the smoking inside, its actually a cute place. They also have food now! I think I will venture over to Indiana again! It's nice sitting out in front, watching the traffic go by on Calumet Ave. and having a beer and a snack. read more

Best barstools ever! Great draft selection. Not just trendy IPA's like most places nowadays.

Great salt of the earth, dive feel tavern but Homer, Barney, and Moe spinning in their stools at the end of the bar made it very uncomfortable. Barkeep was friendly and at the end of her patience with her regulars. I know what I'm getting when walking in a bar like this...and I usually love the character that comes with it. This bastion of blue collar, not so much. Three words in and out comes a racial slur to test my resolves followed by one of those drunken conversations that need to take places inches from each other. Drained my Miller lite quickly and made my way out to a chorus of drunken questions why I was leaving so quickly. It is what it is. May give it a second try someday because the bartender was pleasant enough. read more

Great little bar. Defiantly a dive bar. Living right down the street I would have to say this is my "home" bar. Beer is always the coldest out of any bar around town. It's a great place to meet the locals. read more

Three of us went in for lunch. Two of us had wings one hot one BBQ and they were great. Fresh well cooked. Third guy had a roast beef that he says was delicious. Everything was fresh. service was excellent. I hear the chili is amazing. We will be going back. read more

This place is fantastic! I always feel welcome everytime I walk in. The bartenders Dave and Lisa know me by name. Each is always happy to see me and my friends. We've been going there for years. We love to go there for Blackhawks games. We get to hear the game except when someone puts money into the jukebox. The jukebox always gets priority over the game audio. My friends love to come here. Many of them feel at home when we hangout at Johnny's. This place is definitely the place we go to and are guarenteed to have a good time. One complaint I do hear people talk about is that they cannot pay with a credit card. However there is an ATM machine next to the jukebox. So try and have your cash ready before you go to Johnny's. read more

What can I say about this bar. You never know what your going to get. I have been here nights with just old regulars and other nights wedding parties. You never know what you are going to get here. I have always loved the sign "Mr Fun Is Here". The atmosphere is low key and divey and warm. The prices are reasonable and is great place for groups. I have never gotten bad service here. read more

When here for the first time a few days ago since it's now non smoking, and it was actually a great bar. Definitely will be back!
