Ordered online and picked up in about 10 minutes and my order was ready to go. Ordered an extra large cheese pizza and garlic knots. The garlic knots were nothing like I've had before. Finally tried a pizza from Johnny Tomatoes in Venice, off of Tamiami near Walmart (Tamiami/Jacaranda). For all the hype that this is NJ thin crust, I personally, was disappointed. The Pepperoni Pizza we had was ok, not great nor bad. I have been down here for almost 3 years and have yet to find "authentic". Jersey or NY Pizza. There are plenty of places in Venice that offer good pizza. Food is very personal and many if not most, like tastes that remind them of what they might have grown up with. This doesn't only apply to pizza. I like Asaros (takeout), and places like Naples and Made in Italy for bar size pizza (eat in). I have tried others like Angelos, Sicilia's (sic), and others. They too are ok, but not what I prefer as a go to "pie". I would say give Johnny Tomato's a try. The staff are nice and it might be good for you. I would say the crust is similar to Dominos. For those of you who might not like my judgement, just for background, I grew up in NJ, worked 4 years in a Pizzeria in Madison NJ (Romanelli's) and have been spoiled by NY pizza from John's Pizza off of Broadway (old church bldg) and in Jersey City. I love Regina Pizza in Boston (original location on Thatcher St in the Northend) and loved the Haymarket Pizza in the late 80's the first time I moved to Boston. Don Pepe's in New Haven CT is great too, though their lack of style in slicing pizza ticks me off. They just hap hazardly cut it which ever which way! I also love Detroit and Chicago deep dish ... different styles but nonetheless delicious. Don't take my word for it, but try Johnny Tomatoes for yourself. Tuesday, January 27, 2026 - Two for take out. Haven't been here for 4 months it appears? Wanted some wings and a large plain Cheese pizza. Phone quickly answered, short on hold... very pleasant and professional order process! 20 minute to pick up. Got two orders of 6 each order of wings (first time ordering these) one Parmesan / Garlic and the other classic Buffalo Wings. They pledge 1/2 flats, 1/2 drums. The wings were failry properly cooked.... maybe a little longer on lower heat. But nicely seasoned even if a little charred on the Buffalo? 7/10 Not horrible. Not rubbery so good product and fresh. the Parmesan / garlinc wings were also good, Awesome garlic and oil sauce on top and these were tasty. My wife was not aware they were parmesan coated until I told her as there was almost none to zero parmesan sprinkled or chunked on the wings. This with the garlic and oil base would have been awesome. so have to go with an 8/10 for those. One Blue cheese and one Ranch on the side. Ranch good , the blue cheese was watery and not sure what it was. The Blue Cheese expert lover said "NO" for next time. (Yech! bad restaurant bulk product) So popping them up a notch to get Johnny Tomatoes Pizza above the rest of the masses. I almost hate to leave a review for selfish reasons- I don't want them to get so busy that we don't get our pizza as quickly as we do now. We were bummed when our old favorite pizza place shut down. We didn't love the delivery alternatives in the area. We don't love the chains. And weren't huge fans of the other local spots. Either the crust was off or undercooked- or too much sauce that was too sweet. Then Johnny tomatoes opened. We have been so happy ever since. We have CONSISTENTLY had delicious pizza delivered with crispy flavorful crust. The sauce is the perfect deep tomato, barely sweet combo. The right amount of salty cheese and the toppings are always just right. We're so happy you're here and we hope you stay forever. read more

We are pretty picky about pizzas! And new to the area, Johnny Tomatoes is now our go to pizza place! As per our 3 year old who eats nothing else but Mac n cheese she l had 3 slices and said " that pizzas was soooo good and tasty" Fresh flavors! Best dough! Sorry, attempt #2 was a huge fail. Asked for extra sauce, extra cheese, well done and not cut. Extra sauce, if there was any, was dropped on over the cheese in 4 spots. There was hardly any cheese on the pizza (had to add more at home), it was NOT well done as I had to put it in the oven to crisp it up, and it was cut. So that's basically 4 strikes. Cheese pizza 10/10 and kid approved! The works pizza 11/10. Everything was perfect and in proportion toppings wise. But, yall.... THE RANCH! Sorry, this is not NY/NJ pizza. It is more like mid western Pizza Hut. The crust wasn't too bad but undersalted and the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. It was run through a conveyor belt oven and apparently it wasn't hot enough as the center was undercooked. I grew up on Sally's and Pepe's in New Haven Ct so I know what good pizza should be. Y'know how when we take a slice and pull it from the box to our plate that we make a 'V'? We can tell if the crust is right by doing that. My complaint with so many pies is that when I take it, the top slides off the end like a waterfall. That's because the dough isn't cooked properly and is soft in the middle. Johnny Tomatoes is not like that. Their crust is good. Had an everything pizza, green peppers were fresh and the rest of everything was delicious and fresh, it all blended together perfectly.
