Tuesday, January 27, 2026 - Two for take out. Haven't been here for 4 months it appears? Wanted some wings and a large plain Cheese pizza. Phone quickly answered, short on hold... very pleasant and professional order process! 20 minute to pick up. Got two orders of 6 each order of wings (first time ordering these) one Parmesan / Garlic and the other classic Buffalo Wings. They pledge 1/2 flats, 1/2 drums. The wings were failry properly cooked.... maybe a little longer on lower heat. But nicely seasoned even if a little charred on the Buffalo? 7/10 Not horrible. Not rubbery so good product and fresh. the Parmesan / garlinc wings were also good, Awesome garlic and oil sauce on top and these were tasty. My wife was not aware they were parmesan coated until I told her as there was almost none to zero parmesan sprinkled or chunked on the wings. This with the garlic and oil base would have been awesome. so have to go with an 8/10 for those. One Blue cheese and one Ranch on the side. Ranch good , the blue cheese was watery and not sure what it was. The Blue Cheese expert lover said "NO" for next time. (Yech! bad restaurant bulk product) So popping them up a notch to get Johnny Tomatoes Pizza above the rest of the masses. Finally tried a pizza from Johnny Tomatoes in Venice, off of Tamiami near Walmart (Tamiami/Jacaranda). For all the hype that this is NJ thin crust, I personally, was disappointed. The Pepperoni Pizza we had was ok, not great nor bad. I have been down here for almost 3 years and have yet to find "authentic". Jersey or NY Pizza. There are plenty of places in Venice that offer good pizza. Food is very personal and many if not most, like tastes that remind them of what they might have grown up with. This doesn't only apply to pizza. I like Asaros (takeout), and places like Naples and Made in Italy for bar size pizza (eat in). I have tried others like Angelos, Sicilia's (sic), and others. They too are ok, but not what I prefer as a go to "pie". I would say give Johnny Tomato's a try. The staff are nice and it might be good for you. I would say the crust is similar to Dominos. For those of you who might not like my judgement, just for background, I grew up in NJ, worked 4 years in a Pizzeria in Madison NJ (Romanelli's) and have been spoiled by NY pizza from John's Pizza off of Broadway (old church bldg) and in Jersey City. I love Regina Pizza in Boston (original location on Thatcher St in the Northend) and loved the Haymarket Pizza in the late 80's the first time I moved to Boston. Don Pepe's in New Haven CT is great too, though their lack of style in slicing pizza ticks me off. They just hap hazardly cut it which ever which way! I also love Detroit and Chicago deep dish ... different styles but nonetheless delicious. Don't take my word for it, but try Johnny Tomatoes for yourself. Ordered online and picked up in about 10 minutes and my order was ready to go. Ordered an extra large cheese pizza and garlic knots. The garlic knots were nothing like I've had before. Very soft and melted your mouth and loaded with garlic. 10/10 Best ever! The cheese pizza was authentic, New York style pizza that would make Dave Portnoy proud!!! Sorry, attempt #2 was a huge fail. Asked for extra sauce, extra cheese, well done and not cut. Extra sauce, if there was any, was dropped on over the cheese in 4 spots. There was hardly any cheese on the pizza (had to add more at home), it was NOT well done as I had to put it in the oven to crisp it up, and it was cut. So that's basically 4 strikes. I'd go 5-star, except for the on-line ordering was frustrating (would not take debit, thinking it was credit, which should make no difference). That said, give it a try for yourself. There are no words. Run, don't walk to Johnny Tomatoes! We ordered way too much because we had to try all the things. Garlic knots 10/10 melt in your mouth amazing. Cheese pizza 10/10 and kid approved! The works pizza 11/10. Everything was perfect and in proportion toppings wise. But, yall.... THE RANCH! I would buy a gallon of that stuff, I would put that on every single thing I eat. I would have a ranch fountain of this stuff at my wedding. This is the ranch of dreams. Waaaaay overpriced for what you get!! we ordered four items - price without tip $125.00 -and the food was sparse to say the least - and tasted just ok! Ordered 2 XL specialty pizzas ($40 For ea) One white w mushrooms (there were hardly any mushrooms at all - just slivers WEAK! - DON'T CALL IT A MUSHROOM PIZZA!!!!) then the Fianna Rosa w half jalapeños - the peperoni on it was lacking! then plain wings (those were teeny tiny - $20) and Meatballs (those were ok $16) plus tax giving one star for the meatballs OTHERWISE- TOTAL RIPOFF!!!! read more

Amazing pizza with top notch, high end ingredients. Clean flavorful sauce and home made crust. We love the garlic knots and pizza. The wings are also juicy and flavorful. Sorry, this is not NY/NJ pizza. It is more like mid western Pizza Hut. The crust wasn't too bad but undersalted and the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. It was run through a conveyor belt oven and apparently it wasn't hot enough as the center was undercooked. I grew up on Sally's and Pepe's in New Haven Ct so I know what good pizza should be. Y'know how when we take a slice and pull it from the box to our plate that we make a 'V'? We can tell if the crust is right by doing that. My complaint with so many pies is that when I take it, the top slides off the end like a waterfall. That's because the dough isn't cooked properly and is soft in the middle. Johnny Tomatoes is not like that. Their crust is good. Had an everything pizza, green peppers were fresh and the rest of everything was delicious and fresh, it all blended together perfectly. And it does not waterfall off the end when you put it on your plate. read more

I just stopped by the now open Johnnys Tomatoes Pizza just past Walmart in Venice. I got the Cauliflower Pizza thin style and it was delicious, it is difficult to find a great Gluten Free Pizza! Yes, check them out, family owned business, NO Franchise. it was cute inside with a couple of table clothed tables and decorated cute for Xmas. John was very friendly and it was spotless.
