I just moved to the area recently and was looking to get a haircut! I checked the reviews and found Johnny Cool's Barbershop. I schedule a same day appointment with Lynz. The shop was busy and everyone was really chill. Lynz was super friendly and seemed to know her stuff. Since this was our first cut together, she asked lots of questions which I really like! After many years of bouncing between Super Cuts and military barbers, I finally found a real barbershop- the kind people hang out at in movies or sitcoms. Johnny Cool's gave me one of the best cuts I had in years at the same price as Super Cuts. The employees all seem to be very cool and take their craft seriously. The atmosphere is cool and comfortable to hang out in while you wait. I saw men of all ages, and women as well patronizing the shop. The barbers are interesting and will chat you up while they cut. I did a walk in with little wait time (despite being busy), but you'll probably want to schedule in advance if you have a preferred cutter. Cool, affordable shop. Give it a try. read more

Very accommodating. Squeezed me and my grandson in on a short notice and I couldn't be happier. I had a head shave and beard trim while my GS had his pre-school hair cut. Let me just say that the quality of service was nothing short of outstanding, especially how my barber skillfully trimmed my beard (which I'm anal about). Johnny is the best in the business. Having a consistent barber in your life takes the stress out of worrying about looking good and Johnny gives you a great professional cut every single time. He works with you beforehand to ask if you wanna mix it up instead of assuming you want the same cut and man does he give you a great cut. His work with clippers is amazing. Nobody has ever faded my sides better than Johnny and I always get compliments on my fade for the first several days after getting a cut as it grows out. I'm really disappointed with my haircut today. I moved to Abington after living in New York, Waikiki, San Diego and New Jersey. This has by far been the hardest place to find a consistently good haircut. It's like there's no pride taken in the barbers work or they all go to the same jenkity-ass school. After some terrible haircuts I started coming here for my bi-weekly haircuts. After two I went up to New York for a weekend and my old barber squeezed me in, reminding me of what a quality haircut is. I came in today, dealt with the confusing board as usual (A list of the barbers names you put your name on to secure a spot on line, but I don't have a preference or know who any of the barbers are). I got my haircut, it was a little rushed with no shaving cream line-up or handing of the mirror to confirm it's good. I got to my car, and you can see from the pictures what kind of haircut I was provided with. I also attached what high and tights should look like. Needless to say, the search with continue for a quality barber. *To be clear, when I get my haircut, I would rather not converse so they can focus on giving me a good cut. I usually close my eyes and chill. I am the same with a dentist, doctor or tattoo artist, I'm not going to offer advice on something I don't know how to do. I also have never had so many issues with haircuts as in Abington, PA. 26 haircuts a year and this is 3/3 for terrible haircuts for the year with the other 23 haircuts being acceptable to great. read more

I needed somewhere new to take my son for a cut and I'm so glad we found this place. We went for the first time this week and Lindsey cut my son's hair. Not only was she nice and very cool, she was very good with my son and kept him engaged the entire time. I also loved that you can make an appointment here! I've been to Johnny Cool's at least half a dozen times over the last few years and I've always left happy. John does cuts better than most other salons I've been to in different cities. He can definitely match whatever style or cut you are looking for. I don't mind the wait because it's always been worth it, and I also appreciate the student pricing. Wish I could give 0 stars. Johnny doesn't seem so cool from my experience. We waited 2 hours for no service. I came with my roommate to wait with them while they got their hair cut. You go in and write your name on a board for walk-ins I guess, and we sat and started to wait. People would come in and sign their name and be taken way before anyone even said anything to us. At one point, a barber came over and asked "who are you waiting for?" And we explained that they had put their name on the board and were waiting for someone to do a simple fade. He said something along the lines of like "oh yeah they're gonna do better at that than me" and pointed out the only female barber there, rejecting my roommate. Apparently, a fade was impossible to do for a trained barber. It would have been nice if someone could have said "yeah we won't be able to do it, maybe another day" but nope. We just sat there while several barbers made eye contact with us and then would take clients who came in way later than us obviously without an appointment. So, overall, the cuts looked nice but there was definitely some low key discrimination going on. read more

Best barber shop in town in my opinion I cut hair for 6 years as a professional. One thing that is hard to find with any Barber Shop is consistency ,you will not have that problem finding that here. You can walk in and get a haircut from any barber in the shop and come out feeling pleased. It has a classic traditional feel to it and is a family oriented place of business which means a lot when you have 3 kids another perk is that they also have a stylist for women so you can literally bring the whole family. This is probably the worst haircut I've ever had. The dude was more concerned about the game on tv. I only noticed how bad the haircut was when I got home..first off he cut off more than what I asked for and to top it off, the cut was so uneven. I came in from out of town and wanted a fade with a straight razor. I usually get a zero fade with longer hair on top. The fade is clean and the shave is smooth. I saw him cut an older gentleman before me with a different style cut and it looked good also. John is definitely a master in his craft. read more

I have been shopping for barbers for a couple of months since my previous barber dissappeared. There is not much selection in the Jenkintown/Glenside area. My hair is tough to deal with and I am pretty particular, so after being butchered by a few places including Ralph's, I was relieved to find this place. I've been getting my haircut by John for about 16 years and counting, ever since he was at The Haircut Place in Morrell. I'm the type of person that gets bored with hairstyles quickly and change my style every couple months. John is always up for the challenge with whatever I ask for and does a great job every time. He opened this shop in a nice location and has really come along. The shop is a nice place to chill while you wait to be cut and he has brought in other stylists to meet the needs of growing business (male and female). He also sells hair products for your convenience. Pricing is definitely fair and either cheaper or on par with other shops. You definitely get your money's worth and I get my hair cut at least every 2 weeks. I definitely recommend this shop and just remember to sign in your name under one of the stylists/barbers when you walk in. read more

I went to Lindsey for my root touch up and highlights. I have been going to her for several years and she's always done a fantastic job interpreting whatever it is I've requested. God, I hope that For Rent sign means this dude is leaving. The owner's other so called barber is ignorant and not a people person, at least when getting him on the phone. I called one Saturday, got disconnected, then called back and all I said was " Hey man, what happened " in a normal tone, mind you. This temperamental idiot moron flew off the handle accusing me of being impolite. I must have either hit him on a bad day where he was in a mood having to work on Saturday, or he's simply a plain d.b.. Rude, rude, rude. Big muscular type young dude. You know how they can be. I've seen them in gyms. They're not geared towards customer relations, let alone intellect or good graces. Whoever finds this place ideal, tell me what you think of this guy cutting hair in there. What a gem. Hopefully this place is calling it quits. Owner wasn't the friendliest either. He was moody. Isn't it amazing where they want the $$$ but don't want to perform the service appropriately. About two years ago I moved out of the city into Abington. I always had a go to barber shop in my neighborhood when I lived in Philly. After the move I hit all of the barber shops in Glenside. I couldn't find anyone who could really cut my hair the way I like it until I went to Johnny's place. I have been going there religiously every 3 to 4 weeks for the last year-and-a-half. I can honestly say I have yet to get a bad haircut. In fact all of my kids get their haircuts there now. It's a cool atmosphere. They always have sports on the TVs. It's conveniently located in Keswick Village. So we get a haircut and then get some ice cream at the Weldon soda fountain. $15 for haircut is a terrific price considering how thorough he is. I've tried a lot of other places in Glenside never got the kind of results that I received from John. read more
