IMHO Dr. Tang is my father-in-law's dentist. I'm not sure for how long, but I'm sure he was chosen partly due to the fact, his office is within walking distance from home! After he felt some gum discomfort during the Christmas holidays, we tried to find someone to see him while Dr. Tang's staff was on their Christmas break. Dad didn't want to see anyone else; he wanted to see HIS dentist! Okay! We left a phone message requesting an appointment as soon as possible, when they re-opened. Thankfully his pain and discomfort were manageable and promptly on the Monday morning that Dr. Tang was back from vacation, we got a call to schedule an appointment that very day for dad. Dr Tang has been my parents dentist for years. I remember my dad had implants with them and everytime he accidentally broke his implants. Not sure how he did it?! They would always call and they would accommodate them. After my dad passed, my mom still goes to them for dental work. They care about their costumers, the facility had improved over the years in what I remember from the past. Every dentist give an estimation just like a contractor, they dont know until they see whats need to be done. Everything isn't cheap because inflation I feel like. This is the ... third or fourth time I've came here. Not for me but for my nieces. All 3 of them! Today I came with my baby niece, 7 yr olds. Her mom wanted to canceled today due to little nephew having covid but they charge a cancellation fee. So I took my niece instead. Appt was at 4:15 pm, got there at 4:05, waited a few minutes to check in, receptionist was on the phone with another client. Waited til 4:20/25 to be called. The lady in burgundy is really nice. Asked if we wanted an X-ray to see if she have cavities or not. Had to do the back tooth X-ray again because the first time didn't print nor was it clear. Waited for a while for Dr. Tang, he was with another client. Didn't get to us until 4:35/40pm. He is really nice to his clients and fun to talk to. He spoke really nice to my niece. Location is really convenient. Located on the upper streets of Taraval, close to Safeway, Shell gas station, and lots of restaurants & boba shops. Few minutes away from Stonestown & Sloat Plaza. I had my crown become loose and needed it reattached in May 2023. When I asked the dental office if my insurance would cover it, they weren't sure, which made me think it probably wouldn't. I questioned the purpose of having insurance if it doesn't cover such expenses. The dental office even suggested that I should cancel my insurance and just use their services directly. I called my insurance company and found out that John Tang's dental office isn't in their network. My insurance had paid $35 on top of the $200 that I had already paid John Tang. The dental office had promised to refund me if they received any funds from the insurance. I asked for my refund, but instead of giving it to me, they kept pushing me to schedule a teeth cleaning appointment and promised to send a check, which I never received. Now, it's November, four months later, and my crown is loose again. This is really frustrating and seems like very bad service. I need to get my crown attached again, and it's only been half a year since the last procedure. They're refusing to give me the $35 credit and insist that I owe them $100 for a missed appointment. I feel they've been shady in how they misled me about the insurance to get me to use them as my dentist. read more

Dr. Tang is the best! I can admit that i've never been a fan of going to the dentist because of the previous dentists I've had in the past. Once I've changed to Dr. Tang, every procedure and appointment I've had with him, I've put my trust in him knowing he will not cause me any discomfort or pain to me and my wallet. Everytime Dr. Tang had to numb my gums, I've never felt it because he's great at doing what he does. It can feel like a quick poke but never long enough for me to remember it. I have only been once with my husband and the staff including the Senior doctor was very welcoming. We are people of color and thought we would make it uncomfortable for the staff due to all the crimes recently in San Francisco so we hesitate making appointments for our family. A good friend from work referred us to the previous dental office and she also referred us to Doctor Tang. I trust her judgment cause she too is a patient. We needed to find another dentist since our dentist in the portal area retired due to the COVID 19 pandemic. I have since scheduled another deep cleaning for myself and a basic cleaning for my adult son. Dr. Tang was easy to talk too and very comical and a cheerful person. I recommend this office to anybody. It's very clean and spacious. However, They need a new couch that's in the Lobby. I felt like my bottom fell to the ground when I sat in it cause my husband had to help me get up! But other then that lovely environment. read more

I called in asked for a quote for a pair retainers. I even double checked the price with the front desk after I made an appointment. When I came in the office, they told me the quote was for an arch instead of a pair. I had to pay double the quote price to get a pair of retainers. Wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I have been receiving services from Dr. Tang for over 20 years. He, and his staff, have always been friendly, professional, and taken great care of me. This has included regular cleanings as well as a filling and crown. They carefully explain what is happening and the proposed intervention, and encourage my dental hygiene (flossing!). There is a friendly, family work atmosphere in the office and little turnover; a rarity! I have a secret. I have not been to the denist in 4 years. *shock* *horror* That is, until today. I was referred to Dr. Tang by a co-worker and I'm so glad I went. Whilst he did talk my ear off for the better part of an hour, I walked out of there more educated about my teeth than I have ever been. He's a total patient advocate....the first thing he told me is that silver fillings are better but most dentists convince you to do white because it's more aesthetically pleasing....and of course they last about a quarter of the time a silver one does, so you'll go back often to get them refilled. Whilst it looks like I'll be seeing a lot of him over the next few months (which sucks for the pocketbook) I'm glad to have someone who seems to really know what he's doing. He really spends time explaning what the hell is wrong with your teeth, how he's going to fix it, and why he's going to fix it a certain way. I broke my retainer for the first time in 5 years. Figures the one time I decide to take a chance and not have my retainer in its box and check in my bag on the plane that it would get crushed and snap off a piece. I called a bunch of different places both in Irvine and in San Francisco, although this place wasn't the cheapest of all the places I called. It was the second cheapest, so maybe in terms of retainers they're cheaper than others? It was 200 for a brand new retainer and 160 to replace it, whereas at other offices it was at cheapest 300 and up for a new one depending on different factors that they would not inform me about. This place however said it was just 200 flat and I liked that. No bs, if they can give me a flat rate, why can't the other places? Another thing I liked was that they were able to finish my retainer in the same day (repair) and in one day (new one) whereas other places were telling me one week or two weeks. I was on a time constraint because i'm on spring break right now and i'm going back to school at the end of the week so i needed it to be done right away, not to mention the fact i hadn't worn my retainer in awhile and was planning on wearing it the day i found out it was broke so it was kind of imperative i had it done right away which was why i was so happy this place was doing it for a decent price and it was doing it fast. I don't have insurance and i needed it right away so both of these factors worked out perfectly for me. The staff was very professional and very friendly. I was going to pay for a new retainer case because i know that the cases are included as a part of the cost of the braces but they offered one up without me even asking. And the case was definitely higher quality/sturdier than what I had gotten from my previous orthodontists. I liked how the staff seemed like they genuinely cared and they weren't too rough like some dentists where they just do their work but kind of beat up your mouth. read more

Last weekend, my 2 year old daughter had a tooth abscess and was admitted to the ER at night., but nothing could be done because there was no dentist on duty in ER. I called Dr. Tang for an advise and he offered to meet us at his office at 11:00 P.M.to take a look at my daughter's tooth. What I find remarkably interesting about all these reviews of Dr. Tang is that he's "always yapping his head off." Although I left their offices nearly 4 years ago, I only remember seeing him ONCE for about 5 minutes at my initial screening and after that I had a grouchy woman who was constantly trying to hustle my money. I'm sure she meant well but it was just the way she said it. I eventually dropped them all together because of the high prices and loud office gossip which annoyed the hell outta me (mainly the receptionists and my female dentist). Asian professionalism at its best, right? Dr. Tang is a hilarious guy! He is very friendly and likes to talk a lot to keep you company. I apparently had 16 cavities that he found all between my teeth from not flossing. :( I scheduled two appointments with him back to back and he filled 9 of them! He works very efficiently and does a good job checking up on you to make sure your bite is straight and everything went smooth! But he also took his time to explain everything to me. I actually learned a lot about my own teeth. His prices are high, but you pay for what you get. Excellent service. Wow am I satisfied with my visit(s) here! I came first for a routine tooth cleaning then a bit of filling for my teeth and both experiences were so smooth and enjoyable. Bonnie (the hygienist) and Dr. Tang are really funny, knowledgable, and sweet. Whenever I ask questions or express concerns on how to manage my teeth they always give great feedback and I feel that they don't cut corners in their work. The filling I got for my teeth were for minor grooves that could later get deeper and become a cavity so they fill it as a precautionary procedure. Now the fillings will last 10-15+ years! That itself to me feels like the quality care that is important. They were also very accommodating as I came in towards the end of May right before my insurance would expire and they found a time to squeeze me in for that second filling appointment before the month ended. I love Dr. Tang! My whole family has been coming to him forever.. The whole staff is so friendly and they remember be from when I was a child. They still have a picture of me from when I was about 8 years old.. They still remembered me when I walked in 10 years later! So I came here to get my wisdom teeth extracted and I'm terrified of pain.. I was nervous but I didn't have a choice! My wisdom teeth were growing out and my whole left side of my mouth was swollen and I couldn't eat. I finally gathered my guts to go in to the dentist. Dr. Tang was so accommodating in such short notice too. I went in the same day just to get an x-ray and he did the extraction 2 hours later.. He explained the process to me before he started. And numbed me up pretty good. He put on a movie( i think it was rango) to keep me distracted. He was quick! I swear it felt like it was only 15 minutes. I only felt some a pain from the needles for the numbing but I didn't feel anything else. I was so surprised that he was already done and got both wisdom teeth out already. The best part was that I didn't even get swelled up after! I felt great, just went back in 2 weeks later to get the stitches out. The only downside to Dr. Tang is that it is a little pricier than most other dentists. But I think it's worth it for the quality and friendliness. Definitely recommend him! read more

Long story short, I was born with two teeth less in the lower jaw. My orthodontist pulled out a space in the middle so a fake tooth can be inserted. I went to two general dentists and one oral surgeon for consultation (call me anal). They all recommended me to have implant and the oral surgeons even asked me to do bone graft right the way with an addition of $1000 cost. (The oral surgeon was referred by my orthodontist, you figure.) I spent at most half an hour each. However, my own dentist told me bad stories about implant. I was so perplexed that I talked to my dentist basketball buddy who works for the City. He referred me to Dr Tang. I thought he would either recommend me to do a bridge or implant. On the contrary, he told me all my options and ruled them all out since my front teeth situation is not an ideal one for implant. He recommended me to go back to the orthodontist and get the gap closed back up. He spent one hour with me but ended up not getting any business from me by giving me his honest advice. Although I have $2000 in my Flex account. I'd rather wasting it not spent (I might use it for plastic surgery) than doing something that is not good for my teeth health in the long run. I don't know how Dr Tang can make money by wasting so much time on patients like me without getting business. I guess he should make more money by being a Dental Consultant. read more

I've been going to Dr. Tang since that time and for a number of years now. I can honestly say that he and his staff have consistently given me great service and care.
