I've heard a lot about this place so I was very eager to try it out. I placed the order on the phone for pick up. I ordered the hot honey pizza, large Caesar salad, and the grilled chicken and broccoli which comes with garlic rolls and a choice of veggies, pasta, or mini salad as a side. I went with the pasta. These have been the best garlic rolls I have ever had and the rest of the food was just as good! There's plenty of parking and the inside was clean with plenty of seating. It also has an open kitchen so you're able to see the food and cooking preparation process. This place used to be my "go to" place in Cooper City, and also for many people that I know. Their Tuesday pizza deal had people lining up for hours. Since they are in Pembroke Pines, every time that I have tried to eat there, the salt was too much for me. I must have some physical problem because the salt would have me walking dizzy to my car. I have to reduce my rating here. I am tempted to reduce it to three stars. I am not because they retain their great value and nice employees. I have eaten here twice in the past week and was not too happy either time. The house salad was very fresh and I like the ingredient combination. I ordered garlic rolls but ended up with bread that had a very faint taste of garlic. I like the garlic and the oil. None were given to me. I realized when I came home and did not want to go back. I checked to make sure all items were included but didn't think I had to check for garlic on the rolls. The lasagna is a family recipe that is over 60 years old. I am not sure I'd someone else is in the kitchen or if they changed an ingredient. I can say that the lasagna is very heavy and well worth what I spent. This place has gone downhill. I used to come here expecting solid Italian food and pizza. That version of John the Baker is gone. What you get now is overpriced, underwhelming, and not worth the trip. The cheese had almost no flavor. Whether it was the pizza or whatever else we ordered, it tasted flat and cheap--nothing like a place that built a reputation on homemade Italian food. The rest of the food followed the same pattern: bland, forgettable, and not even close to justifying the prices. Speaking of prices--they are too high for what arrives on the plate. You are paying for a name and old reputation, not for current quality. Portion and presentation do not match the bill. Customer service made it worse. Staff seemed disinterested, slow, and unhelpful. No one appeared concerned about the food or the experience. It felt like they were just going through the motions. I will not be returning. There are better Italian spots and pizzerias in the Pembroke Pines area that actually deliver flavor, value, and basic hospitality. Save your money. read more

John The Baker has the best Garlic Bread ! Smothered in garlic and butter and so soft melts in your mouth. The place is quite busy and there was only one waitress Alice. She told us today was her first time working by herself. She did fantastic and was very friendly and upbeat. We heard she also works a second job. Kudos to her for having such a great attitude and work ethic. We all ordered pepperoni personal pan pizza. Came out fast and hot. Thin crust perfect. They don't serve pizza by the slice but their personal pizza was perfect size. Their menu consist of all the classic italian dishes and their Baked Ziti seems to be a popular one. This place is a VERY solid family pizza place that has been in business forever. The pizza is excellent New York style. But what makes this place is the garlic rolls. Simply one of the best garlic rolls, I've ever had. I normally just get pizza at a restaurant. But whenever, I come here, I always get the pizza rolls as well. As mentioned, the pizza is great, anything you want, they can make, ps get the hot honey pepperoni. But you can't go wrong with any of the pizzas here. And what makes this place great as mentioned that it's a family business, and they truly make you feel like a part of the family. Definitely pass by here when you are in the area, or craving pizza. I had food from here back I. High school like 20 years ago but we had not come back and man o man this place is just the perfect pizza place. The garlic rolls are huge and juicy and the pizza is full of flavor. Love that the portions are good and that we have left overs. The service is great from the door attending us quickly to the waiter being the most nicest and energetic. She refilled our drinks constantly and cleared things off the table with ease. I liked how she started a conversation with my son about monster jam how he was wearing a shirt. Glad we picked this place for lunch. How do you leave the main ingredient, a protein, off of a pizza? I ordered a pepperoni pizza and I had to make notes to add mushrooms and onions because you can only pick one topping. What I mentioned to them I think every time I order. So, you have to scroll like 37 times to get down to the notes - which I have also mentioned to them many times - to add other ingredients. I do not understand why when you order a pie there's not whole pizza toppings click here to customize half pizza toppings click here to customize quarter pizza toppings click here to customize... Again something I have mentioned to them many times. So my pizza showed up with way too many onions I could see some mushrooms, but essentially I had an onion pie I tasted no tomatoes, I tasted no garlic, both are supposed to be included in the John sauce. Super disappointing and frustrating again. We have eaten here or ordered from here for probably 25 years and we love to support small businesses. I don't know if there's no training going on with new employees or no quality control like a manager hovering, watching and tasting and looking at orders before they leave, but this has gotten ridiculous. read more

I love John The Baker. I first came here due to an intense pizza craving and needed a place nearby to satisfy that craving stat! Uber Eats led me the John the Baker and baby let me tell you John and I have been besties ever since. I usually order to go but today was my first time dining in, so I can finally speak on the service. Service is also great! But let me tell you what really keeps me coming back...the rollsssssssss. The garlic rolls are hands down thee best I've ever had anywhere including NYC. Buttery, pillowy, soft, garlicky perfection. What I love most about them is they do not put chopped garlic on the rolls like many places do. They use a housemade garlic oil. So the bread is still intensely garlic tasting but not offensively so. Ladies this means you can still kiss your man even after eating a half dozen by yourself (don't ask me how I know, mind ya business). The pizza is also good. I don't love the pizza nearly as much as the rolls but it's still good pizza. And it's reasonably priced! I haven't yet tried their non-pizza dishes but I def have my eye on the baked ziti. I would recommend pizza its delicious but other items there fall short such as pasta n meatballs awful, fried claims not good and the garlic rolls are hit or miss. Some nights outstanding but other times awful. There are real friendly nice people there but the consistency is what is the real problem. You can dine in and get a great pizza everytime,but pick up orders they are terrible. They literally get order wrong every single week. I even tell them when placing order, got it wrong again so please get it right tonight and they STILL screw up order. Its close andvthe pizza is good, even when they screw up order, so I return. I've been coming here for years & the quality of their food has never changed. Whether it's a delicious pasta dish, a good ol' chicken parm sub or some mouth watering pizza, you can't go wrong. The ingredients they use are super fresh & if you're dining in or taking out the food is usually prepared within a reasonable time. They run a special on Tuesday's where you can get a large 16" for only $12.99. Considering prices have gone up everywhere, I really think it's reasonable for the quality you get. You won't find a better pie in the area. Service is always good. The employees are friendly & do a good job at managing the crowds. I haven't had many issues with the food, but the few times there were mishaps they've always done a great job at making sure I was satisfied in the end. Good customer service goes a long way & that's another reason why I'll keep coming back. If you have a delicious entrée you might as well end it with some dessert & I highly recommend the cannolis; they're some of the best I've ever had. The sweet ricotta that they're filled with is out of this world. The shells are always the perfect texture which really complete them. Be sure to grab 1... or 5. Excellent New York style pizza. I've been coming here for 25 years. I am sure that I have written a review. Possibly it was written for a different location. John the Baker is located in the Fresh Market Plaza. It is a small location but they have plenty of seating. The staff are very proficient in dealing with large crowds. They move out the pizza and pasta dishes faster than any Italian place that I know. The food is always hot and the quality is consistent. Don't expect too much as far as decor. It is relatively simple but watching the show between the staff and the pizza makers makes up for any fancy decorations. The place is not quiet. Sometimes it can be hard to hold a descent conversation. Most important, the pizza is great, the meatballs are good and their cannoli are the best. I love that they fill the cannoli to order. Many people love their garlic rolls. While they are good, lately I like a small basket of crusty bread instead. Back when this was located in the Walmart plaza, I had a few of my children's birthday parties at John the Baker. Everyone left happy and they let us bring our own cake and party supplies. We have come here since my kids were young, the vibe of the restaurant is very old school pizzeria, it's always busy which is a great thing. Although they are busy the service is always good, we are greeted when we arrive, and acknowledge when we leave. 10/10. They have a variety of pizza options and Italian food but we always go for the Margherita. Prices depend on what size pie you want $11-21. Nothing we have had has been disappointing. Come for the garlic rolls, stay for the incredible baked pastas. I didn't bury the lede here. Seriously, my parents come here just for the baked ziti and it's incredible. I branch out on occasion and recently got the chicken Parmesan (which is brave for me since I make a great one at home), and for a side of spaghetti. It was al dente which is unheard of at most places and made me so happy. My husband got a mushroom ravioli (also Al dente) and got it baked with mozzarella on top and devoured it. The youngest of the group subsisted off garlic rolls and a side order of meatballs. Service was super fast and cordial. Came here after a Canes game and all the tvs had other games on so I could catch up and I really appreciated that. Life hack: since you'll have enough for leftovers, bring home a garlic roll and put your chicken cutlet or meatball or sausage inside and eat like a slider. Freaking game changer! read more

John's pizza is always great! Unfortunately, there was an oopsy on tonight's order. When I got home with my pizza, I realized it was not exactly what I ordered. I let them know about it because I went back to get another pizza without the pepperoni that was mistakenly added to my original pizza. Not only did they replace the pizza for me but also refunded me for the first one. I didn't ask for that and certainly didn't expect that, but they are good people. Our server was very nice and was hustling around to all the tables. We got complimentary garlic rolls which came out warm and had lotsss of garlic. Food also came out quickly and was decent. I went to John The Baker not expecting much. I must say, I was surprised how satisfying it ended up being, but with a few bumps. First off, I loved the John's sauce plain cheese pizza. But, it had WAY too much cheese, albeit with the right snap and stretch. The pizza was saved by an incredibly good, crispy thin crust and a zesty tomato sauce. Good chew to the crust, too. I also got some garlic rolls with my order which were like crack; the more you ate them, the more you wanted them. Full-on garlic and dough nirvana. Those rolls alone will have me coming back. Finally, I had the veal parmigiana with ziti. Besides the 3 garlic rolls it came with, the rest of the entree was underwhelming and bordered on awful. The veal came as a whole cutlet filet, not cut up, which is a major plus. But, it was like shoe leather with a thick, mushy breading. The cheese & sauce were the best part...and the rolls! Great food - Nasty servers. All the food here is good and the Garlic Rolls are the best anywhere. Good lunch specials, but the daytime servers are nasty people who think they are doing you a favor by serving you. Our little group has been going there for years. The older/experienced servers are fine. But they have some younger people and this is obviously their first job in the food service industry. They are just rude.
