I couldn't be more pleased with the way my Louis Vuitton silk scarf turned out. I initially went to two different framers to get a quote and get insight on their mounting process--pinning or tucking it on the foam board losing some of the edges of the scarf. Highly recommend! I needed a very special floating frame for a large metallic print. I brought the art to six frame stores in the South Bay to see if they could do the job. Four of them had no idea how to do a floating frame. One said they could do it but were ridiculously overpriced. Thank goodness someone referred me to John Paul's Designs! Eureka! I found a gold mine! It's JOHN PAUL'S DESIGNS right here in Torrance. I had two pieces of art to be framed--one would be a simple matter of selecting a plain black frame and a white mat, and the other involved mounting a trio of special tiles. Paul took one look at the tiles and, understanding how meaningful they were to me, instantly showed me the perfect presentation. As he has a very large inventory, I expected to spend at least an hour hemming and hawing over various ways the tiles could be displayed. But, because Paul is a true artist and he knows his inventory so well, I was spared that precious hour. Thank you, Paul! I'm so pleased with my picture and I love my tiles. His design suggestions, craftsmanship, attention to detail, work ethic and more are all execellent and top of the line! He has done wainscoting; created a custom built-in media cabinet (see picture); custom dining room cabinets and entry casing, and an incredibly beautiful dining room table and eight chairs! (see pictures) They are spectacular, beyond words, heirlooms! We were not able to find anything close the quality of workmanship he has put into all the projects here at our house. When my first, best kitty Murphy suddenly passed earlier this year, I knew we had to display her remains prominently, along with at least a picture. After scouring Yelp, I really liked the reviews for John John Paul's Designs, so I drove over there to talk to Paul about what I needed. Paul was a delight, and as a fellow cat person, he totally understood what I was going for. When the idea for a picture changed to a portrait commissioned by my wife's sister, Paul didn't flinch. I left Murphy's remains, including the fragile pawprints in clay, for over a month with Paul, and he couldn't have treated them better. As you can see, the end result is glorious. The custom frames, especially for the ashes box, are sturdy and well-made, and they were easily hung with the supplied nails. Thank you so much Paul for the wonderful memorial to the best cat ever. I found John Paul's Designs on google maps when I was looking for a local frame shop to help me with securing an illustration to a vintage frame I bought for a gift. I'm glad I didn't try to do this myself or I wouldn't have found this true craftsman. John is sincere with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He replaced the glass with a superior UV protected glass to help maintain color, fixed in the illustration to the frame, wrapped the back cleanly, added feet and a hanging wire ready for use, and even put the artist information in a protective sleeve to secure to the back as I requested. Best of all it only cost me $10. After this experience I'm trying to see what else I can bring in to have framed or hunt for new art to get the magic finishing touch. Did I have fun w/ John Paul or what. I spent a couple hours with this low-key, talented, framer who has spent the last couple decades developing his craft. His passion for music was infectious. I met a kindred spirit as we discussed the state of the music industry, the over commercialization of it all and the dying breed of musicians who not only know how to play an actual instrument, but can development "movements" akin to what you might find in classical music. Of course we were 1/2 way talking out of our asses but did our best to emulate rock critics who know a thing or two. To start, I took my new officially stamped (#63/#500) Alex Grey/TOOL, (signed by all members ) print to get baptized and decorated appropriately. It's a beauty. I can't wait to see the finished product. To boot, the guy pulls out a signed Eddie Van Halen 'signature' guitar he's also working on mounting for a client. Van Halen was MY band growing up.
