I just closed on my condo with them last week and are very happy with their service. Attentive to detail and very willing to walk through every single detail and/or question you have. I was a first time homebuyer and felt confident with the process with John and his team, Victoria and Josh, guiding me thorugh the process. The only downside is that while shopping for mortgages, I had stated I wanted a mortgage with no escrow (I'd rather manage my money myself and keep the money from the interest myself). John said that was possible, but only for a fee (a percent of the loan). Unfortunately it seems that escrows are built into the underwriting itself, so not much we could really do to get around the fee. Just know that if you don't want to escrow. John really hit the knowledge trifecta that we weren't able to find with other lenders -- he knew the DC condo market and who was who among local developers, agents, title attorneys, etc., he knew the steps required to obtain VA-insured financing so that we could put together offers with realistic timelines, and he knew how the VA-specific terms translated into specifics on interest rates, fees, and the bottom-line numbers of cash at close and monthly payment. At every step of the way, John communicated clearly and responded quickly at explaining exactly what the tradeoffs were between different loan types and different loan options, including what types of uncertainty and risk different options presented. Our experience with Louis Berman was beyond satisfactory! He was always attentive, responsive, smart, kind and absolutely client-focused.
