I was initially quoted a highly specific interest rate of 5.123% (a non-standard figure in this industry). Based on this quote, I submitted my sensitive financial documents and authorized a hard credit pull. ​Once they had my data, the rate was significantly increased. When I questioned this, the Sales Manager (James) admitted in writing that the original quote was based on "incorrect input assumptions" and was a "human error." This feels like a classic bait-and-switch: lure the borrower in with an unrealistic rate to harvest their data and credit authorization, then claim "clerical error" to move the price. ​I have officially withdrawn my application and filed formal complaints with the CFPB and the California DFPI regarding these deceptive practices. If you are shopping here, be extremely wary of any quote that seems too good to be true--it likely is. UPDATE TO RESPONSE: Nice try shifting the blame. The data I provided didn't change, but your numbers did. You provided a correct quote, then dangled a fake 5.123% rate to get me to apply, then 'switched' back to the higher rate after harvesting my data. Your Sales Manager already admitted the error was on YOUR end, yet here you are publicly blaming me. This is exactly why I've filed formal complaints with federal and state regulators (CFPB and DFPI). Prospective borrowers: if they quote you a weird number like 5.123%, run. They are just 'capturing the lead' with a rate that doesn't exist.

Long story, long: working with a traditional bank was a nightmare--they wouldn't preapprove me for a loan high enough to put in a competitive offer, let alone even purchase the home, and offered me absurd interest rates. They also used scare tactics to try to get me to work with each of them. They didn't care at all. While ranting about the process to a friend, he recommended and referred me to Devon, who is now one of my favorite humans on the planet. He answered my calls day and night (sorry, Devon!), answered all my technical questions since I was new to the home buying process, calmed me down and provided me with reassurance when the other party was being difficult, and was always readily available to go above and beyond. He was not just a lender but a friend, confident, and jack of all trades. He jumped in wherever needed to communicate with realtors, title companies, etc... not his job! But he truly cares about his clients and does this for each and every one of them which is truly amazing. I saw it first-hand when I went into his office in person to sign my paperwork. He did everything he could to make sure I was able to purchase this house. He scoured through different programs and loans that I could be eligible for and made them work for me. Throughout the process, I would receive emails at 2am, a phone call that same morning at 7am, texts throughout the day--he would even answer my phone calls while he was eating dinner at 7pm and calm me down when there were fires at 11pm. The issues we faced were not due to the loan itself but more so the process of working with and communicating with the other side. Nothing to do with Devon, but he was always the one jumping in and putting out the fires. At the end, he was able to calm everyone down and get my loan underwritten within a couple days (unheard of!! everyone was so impressed). I honestly don't know where I would be without Devon. He's like an uncle to me now, he's invited to the housewarming! It wouldn't have been possible without him. I'd have had to settle for a much cheaper home, that my parents didn't really want. I can't thank him enough and I've already told all my friends--when they purchase a home, I know who they need to call. Hopefully I get the opportunity to purchase another home in the future, perhaps for myself, because I know who I am going to call!

Because I live in Northern California, everything was done via email or fax, but every step of the way, I'd get a detailed email or phone call on exactly what I needed to do. Sure enough, the steamline refi went through, my interest rate lowered, and Joe saved me a couple hundred dollars a month off my mortgage. I was very pleased with how professional and efficient Joe and his staff were to help me out. Fast forward to a couple of years later, I was unaware that my property gained a lot of equity. It was Joe that called me to let me know and also went over some options. Imagine that, someone over 300 miles away informed me of this with a phonecall. This shows me that Mountain West Financial goes above and beyond to help their clients. I hadn't been in contact with them in over a couple of years, and they are still looking out for my best interests. In a nut shell, he was able to change my FHA loan into a conventional loan (no more PMI payments! Woohoo!) and cash out to help my wife and I take care of some debt. Again, everything was done via email or fax and everything was taken care of. At the very least, I am very pleased with Joe and Mountain West Financial. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to any of my friends.

I could have gotten the same rate going anywhere else and not had all of the runaround. I have reported MWF to my union to make sure these fliers don't end up in our boxes ever again and to make sure other teachers don't have to go through the mess I had to put up with.
