The guy who answered the phone (believe his name was Martin) was super friendly and was more than helpful in accommodating my time change request. I ended up having to move halfway through my reservation time to another room (due to my rescheduling the start time of my reservation) and was able to test 2 of their small piano rooms. Both pianos were well tuned and both rooms were clean and comfy. Would definitely come back again. The only draw back is that it is in the middle of the theatre district so the walk there from the subway is a bit tourist heavy and chaotic as is to be expected on Fridays at 6pm.

The collective had arranged for one of the larger rooms so they could have some audience members, the full company and be able to stream it online as it happened. Spatially speaking they had a reasonable stage that held everyone involved. A full four piece band, some singers and some traditional Japanese instrument players and a grand piano. To the other side of the room was the soundboard and a setup of chairs. They had about 20 or so chairs to sit in and the audience would be a mix of invited friends, the media and the other members of the collective. Overall a nice group. The sound in this room was wonderful and you heard everything nice and clear and it was quite enjoyable. The space itself was clean and had a number of bathrooms and a WiFi signal to login to. I asked the friendly staffer what else the venue had and they said there were numerous smaller rooms like phone booths almost that people use to practice singing only or their voiceover and podcast work. Good idea. While I don't know if I will ever be there again I enjoyed my time here and thing the talented people who are reading this Yelp should look into the place in case it serves their needs.

Admission for $5.00 with patrons' hand stamped allows patrons to hop six rooms (only six rooms were reserved for this event) in the course of the night. One room for a chill out lounge room; one room for percussion and wind instruments; one room for spoken word poetry open-mic reading; and another for vocals. Room size vary in all thirteen rooms which gives a quaint audience for musicians/artists to be acquainted and comfortable of performing in front a live audience overcoming stage freight. Funkadelic Studios felt like a bar where located all on the same street of a live performance hop from room to room without ever leaving the building. For emerging musician artists and or established musicians Funkadelic Studios is a perfect venue for practice or debuting one's talent. A fellow prolific poet invited me for the spoken word poetry event which to my utter dismay the event did not begin until 9pm. There are soda machines and musical tool machines serving as emergency backup should musicians instruments brake a chord or lost a guitar pick. The rooms are insulated for soundproof as required by law and are equipped with functional A/C ventilation. I rate Funkadelic Studios for lack of food. I would not recommend Funkadelic Studios for youngsters under age 21 as the hours of operation for events, volume of noise, explicit language used are not kid-friendly.

Every time I rehearse, I am treated with the utmost respect and hospitality, as if it were my home away from home. Both of the studio managers are books of knowledge when it comes to music and beyond. They've seen hundreds (if not thousands) of bands rehearse and record at their studio. Have a question about what your band could be doing better? Ask them. They keep their facility maintained in tip-top shape, and have some of the best gear of any studio I've ever rehearsed/recorded in. As well, they continue to have absolutely affordable pricing for 2 hours of a professional rehearsal space. You can even record your rehearsal on a CD for demoing/live recording purposes! Fridges are stocked with cold drinks (to hydrate thirsty performers) and benches are provided for people who just want to sit and listen to musicians play. Between the performance aspects, hospitality, and fun atmosphere, I would gladly recommend this rehearsal space to any professional group of musicians who are looking for a place to prepare for their upcoming set of shows, tour, or record their next big album.

I'm a 72-year-old saxophonist who picked up the saxophone for the very first time after retiring from a 40-year career in biochemistry spanning academia and research. So yes, I came in knowing enzymes better than eighth notes. Dave has been an absolute gift. He brings a deep well of music theory knowledge, practical musicianship, and real-world experience to every lesson. More importantly, he has remarkable patience and creativity. He listens carefully, identifies where I'm struggling, and then designs clear, effective strategies that make practice both productive and enjoyable between lessons. What I especially value is that Dave doesn't teach from a script. He adapts to the student in front of him--age, background, learning style, and goals included. Thanks to his guidance, I've made steady progress, gained confidence, and genuinely look forward to practicing and improving. If you're considering lessons at The Music Shop -- whether you're 08 or 78 -- I can't recommend Dave Wheeler highly enough. He's the real deal. -- Michael Van Allen, student https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelavanallen/

At the time, I followed the technician's recommendation for a full COA. When the instrument was returned, it played essentially the same as when I dropped it off. I brought it back a second time. It came back slightly improved, but still not properly adjusted. A few weeks later, I visited an independent flute technician in Brooklyn. He immediately identified the issues, charged nearly half the cost, spent over an hour on the instrument, and fixed it correctly. It has remained in excellent playing condition since. Based on this experience, I would not return here for service or purchase. I would strongly encourage others especially parents of student players to seek a second opinions and verify the quality of work.

Piano shopping can be tough. How many times in your life are you out shopping for a new piano?…read more Well, it's not that different than buying a car. There are sales people who will lie right to your face to try and get you to buy and then there are honest, knowledgeable people like Andy. Apparently, he's been selling pianos for many years and he was very easy to work with. I went to his store first and then made my rounds to other local places. When faced with making a piano purchase, it's best to educate yourself. Figure out how much you want to spend and learn as much as you can about what's out there. Some stores who carry many brands often are selling "grey market" pianos or "stencil pianos". Look it up and learn the meaning of these two terms. After we did our homework and shopped around, I returned to Rockaway Music. I didn't feel like I was being misinformed there. There was no pressure and I found the environment to be less sales like than other showrooms. You can tell when someone is being sincere, or at least I feel I can. If you are shopping solely based on price and not on quality, you might feel this store is expensive. If you are more worried about getting a quality product and honest answers, you will be happy here. We bought our piano here, the delivery went smoothly. I felt very comfortable and confident purchasing our piano from this store and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a piano. The added bonus, our current piano tuner does work for this store so we didn't have to choose a new tuner. If you need a great tuner, just ask me. The guy we use is the best around with many years of experience.
