DR JAY PATEL is an orthodontic genius. DO NOT doubt it once…read more I am 27 years old, I got braces with him when I was 12. I had a significant overbite, gapped and crooked teeth. I clearly remember him being a charming man that would always make me laugh so I would be comfortable. After two years I had the best smile one could achieve. He placed permanent retainers behind my front upper and lower teeth and gave me separate retainers to sleep with. Like a common 14 year old, I lost those after 6 months, never getting to use them again. Let me tell you, IT NEVER MATTERED. I am writing this review to let you know my teeth did not budge one bit until about THIRTEEN years later as I now have a very small gap on the side of my smile, barely noticeable. That's how great his work is. It took almost a decade and a half for my teeth to change at all, despite me not using the recommended retainer and my permanent retainers remain intact. I have had many dentists praise his work and even ask for his name when going in for my yearly cleanings. I want to be upset at my small gap (and I am a bit lol) but I really shouldn't because if anything it's a daily reminder of the great artistry in Dr. Patel's work! Photo is quick shot of my CURRENT smile!

It's hard for me to even give 1 star. I would not recommend this business because of multiple…read morereasons: Poor Communication - We often call and no one answers the phone. They seem to be inadequately staffed. We leave a message and never get a call back - a prime example of this is when my daughter lost her retainer, we called and left approximately 12 messages over the span of three weeks and never received a call back. I don't understand that at all; it had to have been deliberate ignoring because it wasn't worth their time or money? It's possible it would've been covered under our insurance plan but since we couldn't get a call back I had to go to a different orthodontist and pay $250 for another retainer. We have spoken with the orthodontist on the phone and have a hard time getting a word in - hanging up, we feel unheard. We ask a question and it's hard to get a clear, direct answer. Oftentimes, it's pre-teen and teenage patients getting braces, and this group doesn't communicate with the parents at all - during Covid, we couldn't go in the office with them, so it exacerbated the issue. Poor orthodontic practices - I was never allowed to go with my daughter to the back (another thing that would have been a nice option - parent presence with the ortho would present the opportunity to ask questions, have him explain what he is doing and what next steps are, etc.), but she reported multiple things to me: Poor hygiene - Orthodontist doesn't wear a mask and doesn't always even wear gloves, both of which should be standard in both dental and orthodontic practices, covid or not! (and has coffee breath). Orthodontist sprays spit while talking, and the spit has actually gone on her face and in her mouth! (Once again, wear a mask) Divided attention- Orthodontist talks to assistants while working on her, keeping her with her mouth hanging open while he addresses other issues and questions Poor skills - Orthodontist has actually dropped brackets and wires into her mouth while working so she has to try to spit them back out. She literally choked on a piece of wire an inch long; it was in her throat and she was trying to cough it up and the orthodontist said it wasn't a big deal and she'll just pass it in her stool. When getting a mold done for a retainer they didn't give her any rinse to get the material out of her mouth. The retainer also did not fit well afterward.

He always took time out to answer my questions. As a parent I was always worried about my daughter's progress and the end result. Each time I had a question or expressed concern over her progress, Dr. Patel took time how to explain his procedures, and how her teeth will look once the process was completed. In addition, his staff was always willing to accommodate my daughter's request for changes to appointments because of school and after school athletic commitments. I highly recommend Dr. Patel.

Another was so strung out on caffeine, I swear I never saw him blinked. So when I found CS Dental Associates many years ago, I never wanted to go anywhere else. I even commuted in to see my dentist when I lived in downtown Chicago. They have several dentists working here, and I actually saw a few of them for various reasons (maternity leave, vacation, etc.) I was nervous every time they made an appointment for me with a new dentist, but they have all been great. They give me the play by play while they're working in my mouth, which helps me stay calmed and informed. In the recent couple of years, they were able to assign me a regular dentist. This is nice since he knows my history and I am comfortable with him. The staff is friendly, the office is clean, and there's a TV in the waiting room. It's conveniently located a few doors down from Jewel, so I can get my grocery shopping done at the same time. Hooray to efficiency!

I also have seen Dr. Gauger to have some teeth pulled and he was very nice and took his time to make sure everything was numb prior to starting and during the removal. I like Dr. Kim but the one thing I hate is being upsold when I am there. That would be my only complaint. The office is very clean and nice.
