This is a great place to take kids and dogs and old people, grouped in that order. There is a large grassy area to frolic in, tennis courts, I believe there might be basketball and a small playground. There is a secret area which I do not wish to disclose (just look toward the trees!) but if you are adventurous you will certainly find it. If you decide on that 2 min adventure, you will feel secluded until you hear the roaring of Jet Blue passing by, and you will see that there are many private spots to sit with your hot date and a picnic either watching the harbor or the airport. I recommend the airport side as it is very interesting. Oh and you might feel like you are going to get hit by a plane, but you won't. I hope! Oh and my favorite thing there is the cedar tree!! Stand under it when it is really windy, it sounds so neat! Also, on your way to the park on Bay View, please pay attention to the house on your left with the monkeys and palm trees. Then you can cry your way back to your car because you don't live here, but you should for this very reason. Its one of the good parks of the Throp!

You'll have no problems taking strollers and/or wheel chairs on them. There are also a couple of boardwalks here; these might be a bit tough to traverse with wheels. Tip: There's a parking lot just past the Orient Heights train station that's large enough for 30+ cars Visiting this park, you'll have the opportunity to experience some nice views of downtown. While your individual experiences may vary, when I was in Belle Isle Marsh Reservation I felt like I was largely alone with nature :-)

I think its a great idea to give the kids free lunch during the summer. The park was packed & I think it might have been because it was lunch time and being that they do offer free lunch... All the Treehouse like structure thingys are all a little too big for my 2 year old...He did climb one once with the assistance of the 12 year old that was with us... None of the structures had stairs to climb up (just one little section), most of the methods of climbing up were ladders or chains, and that just doesnt work for my little one... If he was a bit older this would be a perfect park, and possibly if we came at a different time or maybe after summer. Because it was PACKED! We only stayed a short time!

There are no deer really but you might see coyotes so keep your dogs leashed. It is also not a foresty island, it is mostly made up of the wastewater treatment plant at the center, with this 2.6 mile loop trail around the perimeter. That does not take away from the views of the islands and the city skyline. There is a beautiful Celtic cross memorial up a small hill on the trail, that looks out to Boston and commemorates many Irish immigrants who perished and were buried in unmarked graves, as were many Native Americans here. There is a fishing pier and a rock wall walkway. No real facilities or food, so bring your picnic. There are many benches to sit on, and the flat rock wall itself. The walk from the Deer Island parking lot to the Celtic cross is about 12 minutes, depending on your pace. Watch the planes line up to make their meticulous touchdown on Logan's 2-foot landing strip. :) It is a pleasant and reflective stroll and you can do as much or as little as you wish.

Plenty of restaurants around it as well. Very basic park to simply rest from the city. I was upset, though to see the statue of Christopher Columbus had been removed. The base block is still there with Bob hopes and the many families contributed to this park and the Christopher Columbus statue. I truly hope they just simply move the statue during the protests and can easily put it back in place soon.

This park is open 6a to 11p in the summer and 7a to 8p in the winter. It is quite a large park that extends several blocks with an entrance through the Airport MBTA station. The park is 18 acres and includes shared pedestrian and bicycle paths, a spray fountain for the kiddies, playgrounds and even an amphitheater. East Boston's only dog park is here, too! The park is owned and operated by MassPort.

From here you can see the skyline of Boston and it just looks so perfect and beautiful!!! Visit it during sunset and you are lost for words! It's just so incredible and a romantic place. During the summer the city also offers free zumba classes here. I went to a few classes, I believe they were on Wednesday nights at 6 for a few weeks. The class was so much fun, and the teacher was awesome! She really engaged the students include all genders and ages. This place also holds a special meaning in my heart as it was the place my finance proposed to me! I can't imagine a more perfect place that he could have chosen. So if you're in the area, stop by and enjoy one of the most beautiful and scenic view of Boston that this neighborhood has to offer!
