I made the appointment with Dr. Hay's office based on the recommendation of a friend who is an orthodontist. I asked her who she would go to for her own teeth and without pause recommended Smiles on Smiles. Making the appointment on Friday was very easy and they worked me in on Monday. When I got the office I was trembling no lie. The front desk staff immediately set me at ease with a smile, a coaster for my Starbucks and questions about my weekend. Honestly some of the nicest office staff I've ever encountered. I was brought back within 2 minutes by the hygienist who's name is pronounced like "win". She was so bubbly, friendly and relaxed it melted all of my stress away. She was so very accommodating and really took her time during my cleaning even explaining certain points that were very interesting to me and helpful to know. After her cleaning we had a brief conversation about best practices with my mouth and I could keep my teeth in better shape. I then had a chance to see Dr. Hsu who is so down to earth and a pleasure to chat with! He was so thorough and very collaborative in discussing treatment. We have been seeing Dr Hsu score several years. We even moved to NJ and still make the trek to see…read morehim since he's so good. He's always been very patient and explains things well. He sometimes also does the cleanings and is very gentle, as is Luis, one of the hygienists. We hadn't been in a while because I'm severely immunocompromised and get sick very easily. Since masking protocols have dropped most places, we were hesitant to make a visit. I was happy to find that Dr Hsu is still masking. He cleaned and examined my wife's teeth and wore an n95. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth, Luis, put a second mask on over his surgical mask when I said I was immunocompromised (I couldn't tell what it was...I can't see well without my glasses). He also pointed out the location of the air purifiers they have running in all the examination rooms and we saw one in the lobby as well. All other staff were wearing masks. Some surgical, others looked to be kn95 or n95. We also received a text before hand asking people to wear a mask and the patients we saw come in were abiding by that. They also have half walls for the exam rooms and the doors don't close, which is good for air quality/flow. My highest aranet reading was 883, when I was in the exam room. If you're not familiar with this tech, basically this number tells you how much "backwash breath" is in the air. Anything below 1000 means the room has pretty good/clear air filtration (as a comparison, it's usually a 500-600 reading outside). All in all, I was happy (but not surprised! At the added layers of protection the office has continued to observe. The staff, hygienists and dentists are all kind, competent and patient humans. I would highly recommend this office.

"Patient is pregnant and isnt getting xrays." Nice and loud so everyone could hear. I almost stopped coming after that. I was furious but decided to give them another chance. Today I went in for a crown appt that I had set 6 months ago. They didnt have the same estimate sheet that I was givin to go home with and instead of my crown being covered, they now said it would cost about 1k. I wasnt in pain and the only reason I set it up was preventative, and because I had been told it would be covered. I understand if they get things wrong. Insurance is complicated, but we confirmed the appt over a week prior and spoke on the phone the day before and never did they mention any of it. Instead they pulled me aside to talk once I had already booked a sitter to watch my son and rescheduled my clients. This could have been discussed in advance. I left without any work done and I'll be finding a new dentist now.
