Between me and the fella running Brooks, that makes one of us. Stopping into the crammed, musty shop I was interested in finding out about an imposing black lacquer jewellery box in the window. The owner seemed less interested in greeting me than roaring down the phone to a potential customer. Once he was finally willing to receive audiences, I asked where the box had come from (was it Korean, Chinese, Japanese?) I was only told it had come from a private vendor. That's all. Judging from the mix of real antiques and gussied-up (or is that down?) tin prints and novelty plaques, I wasn't ready for the price tag hanging off the box: €395 Yikes. Between the cost and the dealer, I couldn't leave fast enough. After a quick look online, I found a possible reason why the answers weren't forthcoming: that jewelry box retails for as little as $30 plus shipping. One more time: Yikes.

When inside, you can pretty much say goodbye to any appointments you have in the next hour or so, you will easily get lost while looking at beer-cans and hand-painted dinner plates, trying to decide if you truly need another funky lamp in the living room or flipping through the vinyl selection. There's lots of junk allright, but also some rare and amusing items, perfect as gifts for those who have everything.

There is a bit of everything here from modern fishing rods to Georgian furniture. The overall feeling is of a shop that has been there for so long that it has sort of collected or inherited its stock and perhaps the owner just opens the place up every day because that's what he has done for the last 40 years....not so though! Harold's Bazaar has been in situ for a mere 2 years and this fact alone makes it worth wandering in to.

Much to my delight the selection of vintage men's jewelry in store was huge! I never see this level of estate jewelry in the states. I tried on many beautiful rings before deciding on a gorgeous 18k gold cats-eye cabochon ring, the price was reasonable and the service was top notch. I will definitely return on my next visit to this fine city. Also the location of this shop is incredible, there are multiple estate jewelry shops, merchants and restaurants, it's definitely worth checking out.

What? Really? I have to pay to come in your shop? And if I don't find anything you keep my money? I think I'll just wait for my bus quietly now. Thankfully, the notice is no more and you are free to browse without being hit up for cash. This is a good thing, as I love car boot sales, even more so when they are in shop form, and this place always has some quirky, interesting stuff packed into its shelves. Case in point: the skeleton in the picture. Is any home complete without one? Other items that you can buy include art deco teapots, squeeze boxes, Huzzar jackets and ship's steering wheels.

Michael Duffy I am pleased to say is not one of the latter ones. I did spend a happy hour- actually over an hour- having a look around the shop and found many cute trinkets and some quality furniture. And best of all, I was left alone! Nobody tried to make me buy things or offer to show me some special pieces or anything of that sort- I do like that in a shop! Sadly most of the things are too dear for a poor student like me, but you never know next time I might get lucky.

This is an amazing jewellery store…read more I never really noticed it anytime I walked by the shop but I kept seeing the name 'rhinestones' popping up in magazines and seeing some beautiful pieces featured in various shoots so when I realised it was THAT subtle little shop, I went over to have a gander. Now, every time I pass I have a little window shop. The pieces are all gorgeous and unique in their own way. They're antique, so I love that they each have their own history and their own story.
