John Edwards is a proper old school barber. He has been chopping barnets in the North Laine since the 1970's and is one of the last of the old guard traders in the area. As an anthropologist, this makes for a fascinating conversation whilst getting a cheeky trim and he has a wealth of stories about the city.
The salon is proper basic and don't expect a fancy hair wash room or offers of a cafe latte. This is sit on the chair, say what you want, get your hair cut, pay the man and leave territory. John himself is a nice guy and you can tell he has seen it all before. You will usually find a selection of Brighton's eldery citizens having a blue rinse or suchlike in the place.
It's somewhat random, but has masses of character and traditional Brighton values. If you are fresh into the city and want to get a feel for proper Brighton as it was, then book yourself up for a short back an sides with Mr. Edwards. read more
