The building is very secure, which was incredible, and the view out of our windows was all greenery from the mature trees outside. Our room was renovated but kept the vintage embiance of this historical mansion. Enjoying a glass of wine in the parlor after a long day was a very nice addition to the stay. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area.

We stayed in the Happiness Loft, which was cute and unique. The pictures do note that it's not ideal for tall guests, and that's true -- the ceilings are quite low, but it worked fine for us. The highlight of our stay was definitely the spa. I had one of the best massages of my life, and the couples massage experience was wonderful. That said, it was on the pricey side, as was the room rate, though the charm of the property sets it apart from many other Sacramento options we looked at. Breakfast was good, but at $30 per person, it didn't feel like the best value compared to other places we've stayed. The biggest downside for us was the location -- while the hotel itself is lovely, the surrounding neighborhood didn't feel like a place where we could walk around and explore, so we found ourselves driving elsewhere for dinner and activities. Parking was also limited. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and are glad we experienced it. The service, cleanliness, and spa treatments are excellent, but for the price point, I'd likely explore other options next time. For us, this felt like a solid three-star experience.

Our day started with brunch, which blew us away. The service was calm and intentional, a great start to the day. It was hot out, but the misters kept us cool. We both participated in the Pick your own bouquet at $35. It came with a tall vase to fill, someone to explain the floral do's and dont's of the field, and a pair of shears to borrow for your duty. The paths between the flowers are dirt and grass, so bear in mind your footwear and attire when booking! This would be a perfect spot for families. Overall an incredible experience, being able to even walk the grounds was enough to make a good day, great.

The server told us they operate out of a food truck. So the menu is limited. But what they make is really good! We ordered the lemonade, chicken and waffles, huevos rancheros divorciados, and the strawberry champagne sherbet. Service was very prompt! The actual menu in-person had a couple items that aren't on the sample menu including a couple more dessert options like fig ice cream. We really liked everything we tried! The portions were pretty good. If coming here for food I'd recommend getting here early since food trucks have limited capacity. You're welcome to stroll around the property both the flower farm and the inn side before or after your meal. The parking situation is a gravel lot. So it may not be the most handicap accessible place. We had a lot of fun stopping by Park Winters. They were setting up for a wedding so the inn side would have been closed for the event starting at 1pm. The check also came with a small map of the property for you to keep. This was very helpful in exploring the property. The only caveat is this is the countryside. Wear long pants or be prepared with insect repellent! Even at 10am in the summer my legs were bitten by mosquitoes. (Type O blood. Mosquito magnet here.) I'd like if they burned some citronella candles to help with mosquitoes. The rest of the dining venue was so thoughtfully designed including timed misters (like at theme parks) to help keep the area cool. Definitely check it out if you're curious or in the area.

I liked that the rooms were all a little different -- some, more modern than others. I personally would NOT stay here again simply for the fact that the hotel operates Airbnb style and you can't get in touch with an actual person after a certain time and there is no one on premises. My key card stopped working altogether so I called the emergency number only to be sent to voicemail three times and sent a text saying, "Hello how may i help you". The text was sent just like that. THANKFULLY, my brother had my spare and we were a large group staying on property for the wedding. Otherwise, I would have been a woman locked outside my room with no assistance after midnight. Beautiful ballroom and event space but certainly needs fine tuning on the "no staff available after 4:30p" CRAP. One of our guests had to call the police because they heard someone trying to force entry onto the premises around 1am Thursday night/Friday morning. The police were given the after hours emergency number so they could attempt to notify someone of the matter and could not get ahold of anyone. That should be self-explanatory.

My husband wanted another beer, we needed more water for lunch bust she left - and suddenly she just returned with the check. The table around the corner went to the bar to request another drink, so that's something to think about, but I would definitely return. During my recent visit I arrived on a very hot summer day (101° F) and was very happy there was valet parking so that I didn't have to walk a long distance with my luggage in the heat. The hotel check in was fast and efficient. When I got to my room I was pleased to find that it was air conditioned and there was an additional fan to keep the air moving around. My room was on the dockside and was small, but I was staying by myself and it worked out just fine. Also, as a reminder this is a boat and the staterooms are traditionally small. There were no chairs in the room, only the bed, two small nightstands and an armoire. There is a TV and small coffeemaker in the armoire. When I stayed with my daughters we had a room with two beds, so the room was larger. The bathroom has an old fashioned flush toilet and when my four year old grandson visited, he loved that he got to flush the toilet and reminds me how much he enjoyed doing that. I love soft bedding with a high thread count, but I was unfortunately not treated to that here. I did sleep okay without it. Again as a reminder that I was on a boat, the room was at a slant so the bathroom door and the armoire doors would sway open unless they were tightly closed. Also for people with vertigo or who get dizzy easily, the slant might be problematic. In the morning I had a delicious omelette with country potatoes in the Pilothouse Restaurant. While eating breakfast there was a seal swimming alongside the riverboat, which was fun to watch. Besides the Pilothouse and the Delta Bar and Grill onboard, there are many restaurants, shops, riverboat rides, and a train museum within a short walking distance. Also, if you want to Uber somewhere else in Sacramento, there is a roundabout in front where you can get picked up and dropped off. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

From the moment I walked in, I loved the setup. It's the little details like that that really make a difference. I also loved the refrigerator. It wasn't just a basic mini fridge, it had built-in sections to neatly hold water bottles, juice, and other drinks, which made it feel so organized and well-designed. It was such a thoughtful touch that I really appreciated. The lounge area in the middle of the hotel was so cute! It had a cozy seating area and a beautiful little kitchen space that made the whole hotel feel warm and inviting. Overall, this was an amazing experience from start to finish. The hotel was clean, stylish, and full of thoughtful details that made my stay even better. When I say this room was a 10 out of 10, I truly mean it. I will definitely be staying here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, comfortable hotel.

Sacramento is an…read moreattractive, mid-sized city with much to offer, though not usually a vacation spot (I was there to see a friend.) It's probably one of the better places to live in California away from the coast. N Street, where the hotel is located, has to be one of Sacramento's most charming streets. I took long walks in the early morning. West of the hotel on N Street, there are some fantastic Streamline Moderne government buildings, as well as some snazzy old apartment buildings. The capitol looks typical from the outside, but the inside is worthy of a wander. It's about a thirty-minute jaunt to the river from the hotel. East of the hotel is a mostly residential neighborhood with stately Victorians and a neat home cinema. On a Saturday morning, a few blocks from the hotel, I encountered the giant Midtown Farmer's Market, which covered a number of blocks. As a woman traveling by myself, my safety and comfort are extremely important to me, so I made the decision to cancel the reservation and look for another hotel. What was most disappointing was how this situation was handled. I reached out hoping the hotel might be willing to work with me in some way--whether that meant accommodating my concerns, allowing me to stay under different circumstances, or simply trying to find a reasonable solution so I wouldn't lose the money I had already paid. Instead, I felt completely dismissed. My experience with Vee the General Manager, was especially upsetting. I found the interaction to be rude, insulting, and completely lacking in professionalism or basic customer service. A General Manager should be someone who understands that situations like this require empathy, patience, and an effort to find a solution--not someone who makes a customer feel worse for raising legitimate concerns. Unfortunately, this experience has affected not only my opinion of Governor's Inn, but also my trust in Expedia. I still have a couple of other reservations booked through Expedia that I will honor, but after those are completed, I will no longer be giving Expedia my business. I will also never book or recommend Governor's Inn again. Sometimes the smallest effort to accommodate a customer can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, I did not receive that effort here. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and disappointed. I am sharing this review because I believe other travelers--especially anyone traveling alone--deserve to know about my experience before making a reservation. Governor's Inn and Expedia have permanently lost my business. They don't deserve my time or business at all.
