Urine or bodily fluid stains on the sheets upon check-in
    Laina P.

I stayed here for about a week for a work conference. Upon check in, I looked over the room to make sure it was thoroughly cleaned. I pulled the sheets back in the kings size bed and discovered yellow urine or something else stains on the sheets. Disgusting!! I immediately called down to the front desk, and they advised they would have housekeeping come immediately and change the sheets. Why did this even happen? I would think that housekeeping staff would confirm the sheets are clean or without stains before making up a bed. Outside of that experience, the hotel and room were nice. Right off the elevator, they have a coffee/tea station that is fully stocked everyday with all supplies. There's a nice bar that I was able to patronized, but it looked like a good setup. Also, the location is perfect, as there are so many different food and entertainment options in walking distance. I would stay again, and just hope that the housekeepers pay more attention to the cleanliness of the linen.

Why 3 stars? Because there were some quirks with our stay. --- --- --- We were in town for one night to go to an A's game. The AC Hotel was one of the closer hotels to the park, was bookable with Bonvoy points, and had solid ratings, so it was a fairly easy choice. I read that parking was only available via a city lot, but I imagined that to be a lot that was just nearby but not directly affiliated with the hotel. That turned out to not really be the case: the lot and the garage were essentially on the grounds of the hotel. And the price was only $25 for overnight parking, so I was pretty happy with that. We walked into our room and the first thing I noticed is that our bathroom trash can had not been emptied from the guest before us. I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel where this happened before, so it was kind of odd, but fortunately there was nothing gross in the can, so it wasn't a big deal. But the biggest complaint I have about the hotel is from the electricity in the room. Some hotels have the power saving device on the wall, where you have to leave your hotel key in it to keep power on in the room. In this hotel, you did not have the ability to place a key card into this device - you could simply touch it to turn the master power on or off. So when we went to bed, I turned it on, and then turned the lights off, so that the power outlets remained on to charge our phones and watches. But after a few minutes, the outlets no longer worked. I was already in bed about to fall asleep, so I couldn't get up and mess with it, but I was pretty annoyed that it was such a hassle just to keep my phone charger functionable. Can we just keep the electricity on, as needed, AC hotel?

A very nice hotel in downtown Sacramento. I had a work trip here and we stayed at this beautiful hotel. The hotel is nicely decorated and modern. My room was clean and comfortable. I like the minimalistic style of the rooms. Bathroom was nice and clean. I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. You can order a prefix breakfast option and also get some pastries, yogurt, fruit, meat, cheeses, cereal, oatmeal, etc. I ordered the Shakaru egg bake and it was amazing. Very flavorful and tasty. I also grabbed a coconut chia pudding with a mango sauce and berries parfait, it was delicious! They also have a very fancy Nespresso machine, the double shot espresso was great! Definitely recommend this hotel and the restaurant here.

I enjoyed my stay and appreciate all the amenities, modern architecture and contemporary vibe. The staff is helpful, the food was good and the overall price point is comparable to what is offered. Everything in the room is complimentary. The space I have spent time in is smaller than I'd like and the floor plan configuration is slightly odd. Never the less, it's clean, well kept and affordable

It was a quick one night stay (we were on our to Seattle), but a really nice one! We were very tired from a long drive and this place was a nice recharge. Room was clean, spacious and cozy. The fridge with water inside was nice and the TV had streaming features. Great staff, service-shout out to the bartender and the manager who served us (and folks at the bar) an evening traditional shot, it was delicious and so thoughtful. That night they made a cucumber gimlet. The bar served delicious tapas like bites-we got the shrimp garlic toast, rigatoni with chicken, veggies, and the garlic chicken with potatoes. As a Bonvoy Ambassador, we recieved 2 breakfast vouchers (great options) but no welcoming gift like the other Marriotts. All good as each hotel brand has their own processes.

For all of you points people out there this is a Marriott property! Normally, I'm not a fan of boutique hotels because they just don't have the coziness of a "standard" style hotel, but the AC Hotel seems to be the perfect mix of the two. I booked a single king room and even though it was small, it was perfect for my one night stay. The room was located right next-door to the elevator, but I did not hear a peep during the night. In fact, my window faced a busy main street and I barely heard the traffic below. There is a full bar in the lobby along with a dining area that offers a breakfast buffet and a menu for lunch and dinner. I only hung out at the bar and did not eat at the hotel. I did however buy a few items from their onsite 24-hour market; water, chips, etc. This hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Sacramento and there are tons of amazing local food and bar options just a short walk away. The main one being DOCO, which houses both plenty of dining options and the Sacramento Kings basketball team. They do not have a private parking lot, but attached to the property is a paid lot. It was $45 to valet or $25 in the attached parking lot. The parking lot it's not associated with the hotel, but there's a security guard walking the parking lot throughout the day and night. This AC doesn't feel like an extended stay type hotel. It seems better suited for a quick one or two night business trip. I'd definetly stay here again!

When was amazingly clean. Steph was always kind and proper located right by the train stop in the middle of downtown surrounded by great restaurants breakfast in the morning European style and bar at night.

Booked this hotel because it was centrally located to places we were going to visit during our Thanksgiving trip. I also purchased the breakfast option for THREE of us and booked a room with a king bed and fold out sofa bed. Parked using valet and checked in. At check-in, they couldn't find my room using my confirmation number. No big deal, they found it using my last name. Keys were made and I was told, "Breakfast is available for $19 per person." I said I purchased the breakfast package. "Oh, yes you did, I'm sorry I missed that", proceeds to write us two vouchers for each day we were staying, even though I paid for three people. Get ready to go to room and was told to enjoy our queen bed...wrong again! Had to get new keys made and changed to a new room with two queen beds. Again, not what I booked, but whatever, it worked. Is it that hard to read the screen to see what I booked? Get to room and it takes about five minutes to figure out the lighting/outlet operation. Why in the hell does a hotel room have main power shut-off switch? The outlet by my bed didn't work, no matter what we tried. Room AC/heating control wouldn't let us adjust from their pre-set temperature. Nice, big bathroom, but the shower control took a while to figure out. Two knobs, one controlling water temp. and the other controlled whether water came out from overhead (way up there with poor pressure) or from the wand. To turn off the shower, you had to align the control knob perfectly in the middle of either option. This sounds easy, but it wasn't. The breakfast was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. This hotel is in America, not Europe. They brag about their "European Inspired" breakfast (see my photo), but it is terrible. Holiday Inn Express offers a much better option...at half the cost. Cold cuts and cheese for breakfast? No hot food of any kind, unless you ordered it from their a la carte menu (four options). Pancake/waffle batter, eggs, oatmeal, sausage, bacon, potatoes, biscuits, etc.....NOT AVAILABLE! I guess these aren't "European" even though we're in Anerica. The location of the hotel was excellent (an easy walk to DOCO and Old Town) and it was clean. But the negatives outweighed the positives. The breakfast situation alone would make me never want to stay here again.

Daytime, with the blackout screen. No curtains at the sides, so a lot of light still enters

It's sleek, but I've slept much better at roadside motels :/ First: $320 and change plus $35 parking. That's what we paid for a night; at check in the advertised, unreserved rate was even higher. I don't mind, but the rate sets expectations. At $350 a night I'd have imagined we'd have things like water glasses rather than paper cups wrapped individually in plastic. I'd have also been grateful for curtains to complete the job attempted by the black out shades (see photo for my lighting experience, from dawn forward, bc no curtains). The staff were, every one, wonderful. Night desk manager -- 5 stars. Day one surely as spectacular, though we had less interaction. Hotel housekeeping, who tried to fix the tv for us; breakfast staff; all warm and helpful. The hotel is well designed and gives low-level modern luxury, with a few frayed edges - surprising for the newness of the place (photos). Breakfast, true continental style, was of good quality at an additional $20 per person. Another plus: super clean. Bedding was phenomenal. Crisp, perfect layers, good quality. Unfortunately, the bed had a very high degree of motion transfer and the pillow options were all high fill, so I woke with neck pain. The tv didn't work, even after a very nice houseman tried to fix it. And the air only went to 68. We were in a two queen bed room: I was cold, in front of the air, and the other two occupants were sweating all night. So - uneven spread of air, not satisfactorily cool for those who like to sleep cool. I wouldn't likely return at the current rates, because the value seems disproportionate to pricing. But I'm grateful for the excellent staff.

I've been curious about this hotel for a while--always pass by it on my way home from downtown and noticed you can see right into the bar from the street. Last Friday, I finally stopped in with some friends to check it out. The place is super clean and modern. We were welcomed by Renee, the bartender, who was awesome. She shared the history of the building, the hotel, and even some Sacramento background. You can tell she really knows her craft. We'll definitely be back--Renee made the whole experience!

TO DO: -Bring your shit to the room. -RUSH YOURSELF DOWN TO THE BAR AT 5PM to ask if Renee is working. If she's not there...LEAVE! -If Renee is there: -ask for a Cucumber Gimlet! -specify you choice of booze (i picked gin and second is blanco tequila) DRUNKIN SALAD IN A CUP!!! RENEE IS THE BEST

Brand new hotel! Price is very reasonable. Came here for a one night stay. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because the parking is a little weird but that's par for the course in downtown Sacramento. Very friendly and help staff. Nice room. Has a water machine and ice machine down the hall. It reminds me a lot of the Westin just smaller rooms and cheaper price. It is a Marriott after all so it makes sense. I hadn't heard of the AC brand for Marriott but I will definitely check out other locations. It says European style which is another word for smaller room. It has everything you need. It is smaller but since I was traveling alone there was plenty of room for me. No closet or dresser but I never use those anyway. Nice lounge in the lobby. There is no bell desk but they have carts if you need to carry your things upstairs.

Fabulous evening with other guests and stay at this lovely hotel! Will stay again!

I completed online check‑in, provided my expected arrival time, and assumed everything would be ready. We arrived at 8:36 PM for our 8:30 PM check‑in, only to be told--without apology, concern, or effort--that no double‑bed rooms were available and that my teenager and I would have to share a single king bed. We reiterated our reservation details, and the front desk still showed zero care and offered no solutions. They suggested a rollaway bed, which I declined, and I clearly stated that no one was to enter our room at any point during our stay. We planned to request no housekeeping for the entire trip. We went up to the room and were immediately disappointed again: 6th floor, full parking lot view--nothing close to what we booked. We changed quickly, placed the Do Not Enter sign on the door, and left at 9:10 PM. When we returned a little after 10 PM, we walked into something that instantly made my stomach drop: Someone had entered our room. Someone touched our personal items. And someone shoved a rollaway bed inside--after we explicitly refused it. This was not only a violation of privacy but a serious safety concern, especially as a woman traveling with a teenage daughter in a city we've never been to. I called the front desk from my cellphone to document the time. My concerns were dismissed, and I was told--rudely--that someone would "come get it," then the employee hung up on me. No apology. No acknowledgment that entering a guest's room without permission is a major security breach. When the young male housekeeper arrived, I asked who entered my room and why my belongings were touched. He laughed and said, "Oh, you're like the third person this has happened to today." That statement alone is horrifying. I called my spouse out of town because I genuinely felt unsafe. I searched the entire room for missing items and checked every corner to make sure no one was hiding. I attempted to book another hotel, but because of the cheer/dance competition and Stay‑to‑Play requirements, everything was sold out. I called the front desk again to express my safety concerns and request some form of resolution. Again, I was brushed off. I barely slept for three nights because I was terrified someone would enter again. If staff ignore a Do Not Enter sign and a direct request not to enter, what else are they willing to ignore? The worst part? After speaking with other cheer moms, I learned this exact same thing happened to multiple families--including one who reported it to management as early as 4 PM on Friday. Yet the hotel allowed it to continue happening well into the night, including to us at 10 PM. When we finally spoke with the housekeeping manager, Carlos, his excuse was that "housekeeping is new." That is not an excuse for multiple unauthorized room entries, touching guests' belongings, and ignoring posted signs. This is a serious safety issue, not a minor inconvenience. If I do not receive contact from the appropriate leadership, I will be escalating this to corporate and the authorities. Guests deserve to feel safe. We did not.

I escalated the issue to management (Antonio Sifuentes, Director of Rooms), who apologized but offered no refund or meaningful resolution--only the suggestion to book directly in the future. That does nothing to address the immediate financial loss caused by their staff. As a result, I have canceled all remaining reservations for the rest of the year (including this weekend) and will no longer book at The Citizen Hotel or any other Autograph Collection property. You've permanently lost a guest who was bringing you guaranteed revenue of at least 52 nights per year, if not more. There are plenty of hotels in Sacramento that understand hospitality means working with loyal guests in reasonable situations. The Citizen Hotel clearly does not. Save yourself the frustration--stay elsewhere.

With our discoverist status, we got waters and an upgrade to a 2 queen suite that comes with a kitchenette. I love having a kitchen even though I know dam well I'm not going to use it LOL. It's just nice knowing it's there. All the silverware, cookware, and cups were pristine. Room was clean and cute. The only issue was the bathroom door was a little difficult to open from the inside. This was purely a design issue. Complimentary breakfast is at the Star Lounge and was great. Hot foods and traditional breakfast, yogurt, cereal, and a nice toaster with a whole tray of different breads and bagel. The woman that was manning the breakfast station was awesome (short blonde hair). I always noticed her helping out guests with something and had a good hospitality radar (to anticipate needs). Would definitely come back. Valet: $40/day with in & out privileges

This building is pretty! There are 8 stories. The rooms are apartment-like and some are suites. My 1-king bedroom on the fourth floor had a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, and comfy couch. The bed was soo comfortable. The blankets were warm. This room faced 28th Street. My issue with this hotel was that the guy at check in barely said anything to us. He didn't explain breakfast hours, where the elevators were, or welcome us as status-holders. This was the first time in a while I've had such an experience at a Hyatt property. Parking: valet only, $40. I found an uncovered parking lot on 28th that was $10 for overnight. The valet attendant is directly in front of the hotel. Breakfast: M-F 6:30A-9A, S-S 7A-10A on 3rd floor. This is a gorgeous and up-scale hotel with lovely amenities. Parking was very easy. You have the option to valet or self-park in the underground garage. The elevator from the garage leads you directly into the beautiful, modern, and clean lobby. There is an abundance of lounge seating available and a very nice coffee/hot cocoa bar. In the coffee bar, there were syrups and toppings available for use which made it feel much more luxurious. The room was great too. We booked the Premium King Room with the Golden One Center view. The room was spacious and clean. It did not feel cramped or crowded. The bed was comfortable and was furnished with many pillows. The hotel offers almost any bathroom amenities that you can think of if you forgot them. The mini bar is fully loaded, but pricey as expected. I was unfortunately disappointed with the view though. We were placed on the sixth floor and could hardly see the Golden One Center. The window overlooked just the roof of the stadium. We could not see the plaza, city, or much of the stadium at all. If you crane your neck to the sides, you can barely see the Tower Bridge and the State Capitol. We also had some trouble with the AC in the room. It was working early in the night, but despite being set to 65, the heater seemed to have kicked on. It got very hot in the room, and then got very cold on its own even later. Despite this, I would definitely stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel again, just without paying extra for a "view."

I have a strong sensitivity to pet dander, so we specifically requested a room that had not had pets in it. The room itself was actually lovely, and everything looked very clean when we arrived, which made what happened next even more surprising. After getting back from an event and finally laying down for the night, I started having a pretty intense allergic reaction. It came on quickly once I was in the bed, which made me think the linens may have been washed with items that had pet dander. We did reach out to the front desk, and they were kind and offered to change out the linens, which I appreciated. But by that point my reaction was already in full swing, and I just wanted to go home. It was disappointing because everything else about the hotel from the helpful front desk staff to the overall feel of the space was good. Helpful tip: If you have pet allergies, I would recommend calling ahead and asking not only about pet-free rooms but also how linens are handled, since that may still be a factor. It's never fun to cut a stay short, especially at the end of a long day, but for anyone with sensitivities like mine, this is definitely something to keep in mind.

The tall ceilings and quiet rooms--thanks to excellent insulation--made the stay very comfortable. I also liked the different water options available near the front desk, especially since the bottled water in the rooms cost $10 each. The music in the pool area created a great atmosphere, and the jacuzzi was a nice size and very enjoyable. However, the main issue was the mandatory valet fee--even when not using valet service. This makes no sense and feels unreasonable. If arriving by Uber or not bringing a car, there is no justification for being charged valet. The website does not clearly state that valet is mandatory, and there was no prior notice when booking. At check-in, staff simply said, "We have to charge it anyway," regardless of whether the service was used. The fee is also quite high at $52 per night, which adds up quickly for a service not utilized. According to previous reviews, valet fees have increased significantly over the past three years. I would not stay at this Westin Hotels & Resorts location again. The accumulation of mandatory fees makes the experience feel transactional rather than guest-focused. I would much rather voluntarily tip valet staff when I actually use and appreciate their service, rather than be required to pay a substantial fee regardless of need. Overall, while the hotel has many appealing qualities, the mandatory valet charge without clear disclosure or usage was a major drawback.

I booked the room with my CC and then I called them to let them know I would like incidentals to be on my card. So all my parents had to do was get the keys from the front desk upon check in. I added my pops name to the reservation so he can check in with out me. I received an email from Raquel Torres with a Docusign that allows them to put everything on my CC. I filled it all out and sent it back to Raquel and email her back letting her know I filled it out. I never heard back from her so I figured everything was fine. Turns out, when my parents checked in, they had to put their own card on file for incidentals. The Room was charged to their card and they were double billed for parking fees (2 cars each day instead of just the 1). I lost out on the special offer I had with my CC with Hilton and I had to pay my parents back. My parents enjoyed the stay and the rooms were spacious and clean. The staff at the breakfast area was very nice and my mom said that she wanted a waffle and she was looking at the waffle maker trying to figure it out and one of the staff members saw and made it for her and brought it to her table. The driveway into the parking lot is right off the freeway exit, so they missed it the first time and had to come back around for it. While my parents enjoyed the stay and the staff was great, the billing mishap was a waste of time for me filling out the paperwork and making the calls to get everything ready for a seamless check in and stay. 3 stars.
