kids smoking pot in the bathrooms, drugs run rampant on this campus. If your kid is average the classes are ridiculously dull if they are intelligent its good. It's not the easiest place to go to school. Burbank hires teachers for a lower wage than los angeles unified and you get what you get. some teachers are really good and some have mental issues but what can you do. The Burbank Unified school district is not doing well financially. and the superintendent does nothing. he acts like he cares but he doesnt follow through. read more

I love developing serve Emotional and mental health issues in a school environment where the admin made it so hard and consequential that you could not use the onsite facilities. Three kids committed suicide in one year while I attended. Having a cop on site doesn't make anyone feel any safer. read more

This school overall puts out a very nice, clean and secure school environment however they have no regard for the students and that is something that in regards to a school should be near as a priority as safety. I was a student almost 5 years ago now and to this day the absolute distaste I have for it's board of authority is disappointing. I won't discuss details into the entire situation but a summary to lay the basics of which I was essentially fucked over causing me to not be able to walk along my peers for graduation as well as not even being able to receive my diploma from the school and having to "graduate" from an alternative school. I spent countless of hours in the offices talking to my councilor at the school to see what I needed to do in order to secure my education and be able to walk across the stage, I cared nothing but for my education and worked with my teachers to make sure I could get extra help only for the school board to call me in and tell me that it wouldn't be fair for the other students, I stayed in at lunch doing extra credit, making up assignments and doing anything that I could. I showed a lot of effort towards my education And I did everything in my power to do so, all that was standing in my way was a pathetic letter that the school board, principal and/or higher ups needed to look over and agree that my situation was worth, key word, WORTH being able to graduate. And after I wrote the letter about everything disgusting and wrong that was happening outside of my school life that was preventing me to come to school they didn't approve of my letter, meaning I wouldn't be able to walk the stage or graduate along side my peers. They had absolutely no regard for me as a student and my well being. After that I decided to "fix" the issue at home that was preventing me from graduating. When that did happen I was declared a homeless student under their computer and after all of their students graduated I was put into an alternative school to graduate and get my diploma. The alternative school board said it would take at least 3 months at the fastest to graduate. I finished in 3 weeks with flying A's across my report card due to finally being free of what was preventing me to come to school in the first place. School was never an issue, but what I put in that letter that would determine if I was graduating from John Burroughs high school was the issue preventing me from succeeding and to see the difference within a school that I attended for four years, not putting any effort into me when I was showing every ounce of my well-being as well as an effort to graduate be disregarded is absolutely disgusting. THEY DID NOTHING, I WAS A CHILD AND THEY DID NOTHING. As soon as I physically had to take matters into my own hands and become homeless was when I was able to succeed. It took me three weeks to pass with A's and get my diploma while it took me four years at John Burroughs only for them to not help, waste my time, and put absolute no regard towards my situation. read more

Why is it the track is super nice after I graduated?? Doesn't matter. I came here for a morning run and left without my shoes being dusty back in the days with the dirt track. But going back in time when I was here at school...when I went to school there were students who thought they ruled the school, psh as if & talked about trying to go into zero period half way late. Class is class and there is a set time. Complaining why they got marked down they were late... well maybe they should of actually showed up on time. One of my teachers use to lock out the late kids. I do have to agree with another Yelper review, Sam. I did get some bullying by peers. But I didn't care in the end cause I went to a better college and was all YESSS NERDS RULE. Popularity in high school doesn't mean much and some kids do realize that. Those who don't I don't know what happened to them, but hopefully they have grown up. I was in tennis and track & field. Those kids/coaches were pretty chill. One thing for sure they always encourage everyone to push each other to the limits and more. By doing so we all kept breaking our own personal records. It is an individual sports on a big team. The teachers here really care about the students and want them to strive the best they can. It is sad to hear some students complain about "too much" summer homework. I had those teachers and if I didn't do all the things they planned I wouldn't have survived college as well as I did. The books I read were used in college and I loved how thorough Ms. Calluya was. Granted when I was in her class she scared the bee-jesus out of me but I knew where her intentions were at least. I do wish some of my friends who were in the lower classes cared about education more. I would see peers going to school with just a purse...Does homework or notebooks even fit in there?! It was sad to see the closer graduation date came for high school, the number of kids dropping out increased. Ms. Morrison, the advanced art teacher, tried super hard for those kids who were on border line of not graduating to extend their projects and other stuff. I loved being in her class cause I was told her a reason if I was not able to complete a project and she would extend the deadline since she knew my schedule with honors/ap classes + sports. I do drop by once awhile to drop off art supplies for her class so she doesn't need to go buy them. read more

This review is only for the track/Memorial Field. Great track that's well kept and open to the public. Current hours are on school days are 6AM- 7AM and 3:30PM-10PM; on weekends & school holidays, 6AM-10pm. (Obviously, it's not open during games or meets.) Lights are kept on in the evening and the bathrooms are even open. Very glad to see the district allowing the public to use the grounds like this. read more

I have to say BUSD have great high school and JBHS is an example of a place you would want your kids graduating from. The administrators are always looking for better ways to do things and better opportunities for the kids that come through their doors. My favorite person has to be Ms.Chambers the career/college counselor who tirelessly works to get the kids involved and exposed to the different options that are available to them. read more

I attended a football game at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA on 9/12/2014. It was my 1st time there. At their Memorial Field, the Rosemead Panthers lost to the John Burroughs Indians by a score of 45-17. Entry was $8.00 and a program was $10 (ten!) dollars. Parking was free. First of no one ever answers the phone.. and the phone system is a mess! The staff is worse! Very rude, clueless and you can tell they hate their job. I've notice they don't take anything seriously not even bullying and that's including the principle. 4 suicides in less than a year is no wonder.. Was here for the show Choir's BOB (Burroughs on Broadway) performance series this past weekend - it was amazing! and I'm not just saying that because my cute little sister was in it ;) I loved the screens set up inside and outside of the auditorium for optimum viewing of the interactive and outstanding show. The Playbill was also very well done. This is a great way to support your community and schools, I'd highly recommend purchasing tickets and enjoying any of the shows they put on. I've attended their holiday shows in the past, which are also tons of fun and really get you into the holiday spirit. read more

This track is rad and cushy. Okay, sure. I'm old(ish) and have a bad back and hips. Trust me, if you have injuries running on this track is a godsend. I like that it's shared by the community and folks don't get possessive or pushy. Great option, and keep an eye out for the street parking - just read the signs!! I'm a currently attending student and jesus christ i wish i can go to Burbank HS sometimes. Mrs. Mayes is amazing!! I love her to death and she deserves a whole lot more than the kids she gets. Ms Sayre,,, shes an okay teacher but so VAGUE. Ms. Weiner you're a godsend and i hope i get you senior year And i apologize for the grammar(i'm lazy, but you taught me well). Despite teacher issues i came to write for a more serious topic. When i came into the school in 2016-2018 i came in with low hopes and expectations. The work wasn't much of a problem but the atmosphere was disastrous. Kids would say racial slurs and derogatory terms and nobody tells them anything. I've always been bullied but the bullying and teasing was just constant for everyone. Most teachers again, say nothing of it. Just my freshman year 4 different people committed suicide, one of them was a boy ive known since elementary school. the school always says to the students in the beginning of the year if someone needs help(with work or mentally) to contact them. WEEKS before the attempt the boy's friends begged the school to help him and what did the school do?? Nothing. First of all my complaint is specifically for Peggy at the front desk she is rude and clue less I've made a complaint about her on how last time I came to drop off something to my daughter she asks if my daughter is ok ? Why would you ask such a question that's not how you greet someone , you ask how are you today in a friendly tone , you don't ask all concerned if they're ok when nothing wrong to begin with ! She has no customer service it's annoying to see her and have to deal with her dysfunctional behavior. Today I went by again for my daughter . She interrupts while I'm having a conversation with my daughter , she asks if we need something what is wrong with her ??did I ask her anything ? doesn't she clearly see we're having a conversation !? The running track is less crowded than others, but you get a great bleachers workout here. The track is a little tough but the field is a great option if you are looking for a low impact running workout. I love coming here with my friends at night for a bleachers workout or just to walk the track and talk. read more

John Burroughs HS is a beautiful school. Here for a basketball game. Girls basketball. My 7 year old niece went over to the snack bar. Wanting a candy and chips. Candy was 2 dollars chips were a dollar. She handed him a dollar and he told her she didn't have enough! So she cane back only with chips. But have him all her money. The guy ripped off a 7 year old! Great staff. Horrible kids. I was bullied all four years that I went to this school. Ms Wilson AKA Ms Walter went to all the trouble to getting a couple of these kids diplomas ripped up and she even traded parking spots with me after the kids started messing with my car. I have to say that I am a proud parent of a JBHS Sophomore & I also have a daughter who graduated in 6/2012. I have found that this high school is truly worth it's weight in gold. The school football, basketball & baseball games are all set up & handled very well - the games also have a very high student, parent & school administrator attendance & participation. There is something for everyone here! I love that the campus is clean & well kept & the kids generally all care about their grades. My graduated daughter is now graduating from NYU this May & let me tell you the GREAT education complimented with plenty of AP classes this school offered really helped make this an achievement! This is one of the worst schools in LA. Where do I even begin? I used to walk into that school everyday depressed that I had to show up listen to Ms.McMahon tell us about all the work we are going to get. Then followed by that I had to depressingly waddle my way into Ms.Russons "Health" class. It seemed to be all that teacher cared about is giving the students packets and making us take notes on useless facts about depression.THAT TEACHER IS DEPRESSING NO ONE LIKES HER. After that here comes the tsunami sized wave of papers you're going to get thats due by tomorrow morning .Then following that you get a nine minute break so you can sit down and dread the next class as you knew your going to get even more homework. So once I would have completed my long boring day I would then go home to do at least 3 hours of homework. Everyone at this school thinks it's a toxic waste pile full of awful teachers who can't teach so they give kids homework. Lets not forget to mention the nicotine addicted kids. On a very serious note three students committed suicide at that school, when I brought that up to everyone in the main office they laughed it off. They laughed off the passing of three overly stressed teens who felt they had no other option to take their own lives. Im so happy I left that school when I did. If anyone sees this don't out your kid in that school unless you want them to depressed and hate life. read more

Great teachers, nice kids. I was a bit uncooperative, but they were good to me anyway. If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself! There were drugs back then, but I was not involved with it. I did not graduate in '65 with my friends, I got married instead. Thought I knew it all!! Does"nt every 17 yr. old? graduated form this school and im proud to say ive met some of the most amazing teachers in my life from this school. every teacher i had always had a passion in what they do. great place to have your kids graduate. The staff is always looking for even better upgrades but the lady in the discipline office seemed racist. And i was not the only one who noticed it. and i believe she still works there. read more
