They were always happy to talk and answer questions and concerns. The administration was also approachable. This school had a lot of great teachers that really liked working with the students. They didn't have to say it because it showed in their actions. My son especially liked his English teacher. I forgot her name. But, she provided a variety of novels and interesting literature for him to read. One of the books was about the historical culture of the United States. I was so happy when my other son went to the neighboring school. However, it turned out to be too big and busy, and I did not feel like they were personally invested in my son. I felt like the teachers were bullied into giving students grades that they did not earn, and students were encouraged to miss school anytime they wanted and claim that it was for "mental health" reasons. In the end, it turned out to be a blessing that my younger son had to go to his home school, East Valley High. The students have a sense of security and belonging at East Valley.

Instead of working with my child, the approach felt more like labeling and blaming. There also seemed to be clear favoritism among students. Families who had closer relationships with the office, principal, or teachers appeared to receive different treatment, while others were held to a different standard. That kind of inconsistency is unfair and very concerning. In addition, the administration, including the principal and vice principal did not handle situations effectively when issues arose. Concerns were not addressed in a way that showed leadership or accountability. If your child is very quiet, does not speak up, and simply goes to and from school without raising any concerns, you may not have issues. However, if your child needs support, understanding, or advocacy, this may not be the right environment. Overall, I would never recommend this school! Don't be misled by appearances or what is presented upfront, our experience did not reflect that at all.

She has received a top notch education here. Providencia has great teachers and staff, wonderful parents, and both my daughter and I have made wonderful friends here. That being said, not many Burbank parents want to send their children to this school. Many parents that have Providencia as their home school get a permit to the much larger school.. a hop, skip and jump away.. Bret Harte. Why? I've wondered throughout the years, but it's pretty simple. Status. Providencia is a lower income school (though I don't know how low the income can really be as it's a school in BURBANK, not known for its cheap rent or homes) that also happens to be very diverse. I think more parents need to give Providencia a chance. My son currently goes to Bret Harte because he is in TK (Transitional Kindergarten) and Providencia doesn't offer TK. We will be transferring him to Providencia in the Fall for Kindergarten. As a parent who has two children at the two different schools I don't see any difference in the level of education they receive, the grounds, programs, or PTA. The only difference is that Bret Harte is a much bigger campus with a larger student body. I actually prefer the tight knit community of Providencia to Bret Harte. Everyone knows each other and it has a more small town feel. Additionally, Providencia offers ASES, a low cost after-school program that is curriculum based while also allowing time for crafts, play and fun. Much like my neighbors look down on Providencia for being considered one of the low income schools in Burbank (I think the other schools that offer ASES are Washington, Disney and possibly McKinley), they look down on this low cost, state funded program because... well, "it's for poor people, and I don't want people to think I'm poor and I don't want my children to have poor friends." (By the way you don't have to meet any low income requirements to have your child in the program, as I doubt many of the parents would actually qualify if that were the case). People go out of their way to get a permit and then pay $500+ a month for Around The Bell and other similar after school programs that aren't any better than ASES. Hey, if they want to spend their money simply due to preconceived notions about Providencia, that's fine. But, in all honesty, Providencia is a great place to send your kid. I care deeply about the education my children receive. If this wasn't a good school my daughter wouldn't be an honor student and she wouldn't have spent Kindergarten-5th in their care. Don't get me wrong - Bret Harte is a great school too, as I believe most Burbank schools ARE. But parents, don't correlate low income/diversity = sub par education. Give Providencia a chance!

All of our kids love the campus and the teachers. The curriculum is challenging but the school is always finding new ways to make learning fun. VCS encourage family unity and there are many social events for families. We feel like VCS is our second home and we have made many friends there, friends that we actually like to hang out with outside of school. As a parent I am always worried if the curriculum isn't challenging enough so when other kids come to Village I ask the parents if their children find the work too easy or more challenging. I have yet to hear of one parent tell me it is easier than their previous school. The teachers and staff alike truly care about these kids and love God. It is evident the moment you set foot on campus. VCS promotes college at an early age and will guide your children through the entire process and hold their hand every step of the way. They focus on what the children like and what they want to study. VCS is a wonderful school and we are so thankful our children have the opportunity to attend.

I was just like every parent who is nervous in sending off their child to high school, especially with the horror stories you hear about schools in general but I was wrong. To date I have been very pleased with the caliber and education she has received. I was completely surprised when she told me that the first day of school was an all day event that was put together by the upper grade students as a Welcome Freshman day. I had never heard of any other school making every student involved in creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere to all the new students. I can honestly say that from day one she has been happy. She likes her teachers, has excelled in subjects that she struggled with in Jr High and better yet has not missed one day of school which reflect on her grades and GPA. I have St Gen's faculty and principal to thank for providing the right tools from the start! Additionally while this is a Catholic School and values, character and respect are high on the standards they uphold, this is not your average Catholic School. It is very modern and puts its academics ahead of everything else. They are grooming and prepping students for college from 9th grade by offering College Prep, AP and Honor courses, along with a plethora of extra curricular activities. Unlike most private schools that are very rigid in their dress code, they allow the students to wear daily "Nike athletic gear" that of course is sold in the campus. This is not to say that they are not strict about the athletic uniform because they are but my point is that they have created an environment of comfort and again focuses more on the academics and athletics over dressing like you are going to church everyday. Don't get me wrong there are days that formal wear is required but its not everyday which is really cool. On the financial side of things....don't be scared or think you cannot afford it. Talk to Mrs Z and explain your concern or hestiations and trust me she will walk you thru any process. They are willing to help so don't feel discouraged if you go online and review the tuition pricing. What I find very refreshing and innovative are the night schools which take place once or twice a month every other month or so. The night school sessions feature various motivational speakers that visit from all walks of life and offer such a profound view into their life and struggles that is so inspiring and special. I personally look forward to the night schools. Mr. Horn has provided a way for you as a parent to partake in these night school events which take place in the evening. It really shows how much this school wants you as a parent to have an open dialogue with your child after the end of the event and as you drive home. I really appreciate the time and effort every faculty member puts into these events. Its really a wonderful experience to be a part of and shows the school spirit in full effect. Frankly I have not come across that type of school spirit anywhere else. Its infectious and makes you feel not only like you made the right decision in enrolling your child in this school but that they are in the right hands with people that care and are helping them evolve into adulthood.

One is about 8 stories tall with NO windows (see pic)...what is the purpose of that?? What if there is a fire? This church has endless amounts of cash, they get the city to cater to their every needs, including special law enforcement from LAPD to sweep homeless people or anyone who looks unclean from the sidewalk in front of their church. I attended church there a few times, it was very quick and strange. I would never send my kids to that high school.
