my daughter had a bone mass in her gums discovered by her orthodontist. I took her x-rays to Dr. Boghossian and he took a 3-D image and then referred us to Stanford. The Stanford surgeon deem a "wait and see" case. I consulted with another surgeon and he was surprised that we were referred to Stanford. He said the bone mass is a typical calcification and we should not be concerned. All this took money and time that did not need to be expended. Fast forward a year, my daughter was advised to have her wisdom teeth removed before college. I chose Dr. Boghossian due to proximity to our house and the high yelp ratings. He scanned her mouth and discovered "an extra tooth" embedded in the other side of her lower gums as the first bone mass. This time he said it had to get removed, so he cut into it but decided the tooth was too small to be removed and refunded me back the $1,400. I again talked to my oral surgeon for a second opinion and he was again surprised that Dr. Boghossian decided to operate. He said he would have waited for the tooth to erupt and the removal would have been easier and healing faster. So my daughter endured unnecessary pain for no reason and she will still have to go through another procedure down the line. This is all to say that this surgeon overly-diagnoses and is either too cautious or more interested in charging $ than choosing the best option in the interest of the patient. Should be NO STARS. Arrive for appt. 2 people at front desk sitting side by side with neither appearing very friendly AT ALL. I approach and say who I am. The girl verified my info and asked if I had insurance. I told her it's in the system. She realized it and said ok. I get called in. Boghossian comes in fairly quickly. I have 2 molars with problems and 1 is causing me pain and discomfort. The other is a crown that is loose and spinning on the implant post. He seems nice but then asks are u a smoker, do you grind your teeth, does it cause you pain or discomfort? I say the spinner is uncomfortable but the other tooth IS causing me quite a bit of pain. I am not eating well and sleeping is difficult to do. He says we need to do one of those full face x-rays then walks out saying he will talk to me about it when done. THAT'S IT. I am lead to the machine and the nurse (who is very nice) did the x-ray. Then she unlatched me from the harness and I stood up. BLANK, NOTHING. I look around and ask someone am I done to which they say yes. I said what about my consultation? She says the Doctor will call me, NEVER HAPPENED. I am lead OUT to go pay. Now this is the girl sitting next to the girl I just verified my insurance with less than 10 minutes before. She looks and says ok your total is $475. WT actual F? I say did you bill insurance and she asks do I have insurance? I say yes look at your screen. She says oh yes you do. You owe $250 bc this type of x-ray is not covered. Whatever so I pay and ask do I get a consultation? When will he call? She said yes he will call later today after he reviews the x-ray. HE NEVER CALLED and since it was Friday I was screwed and in pain. So I call Monday and ask why. Receptionist says oh I will tell him and he will call. NOPE. This guy is a crook. John Boghossian is a greedy CROOK. I now am in pain, tired from lack of sleep and hungry from lack of eating. I give up and call the Peninsula Dental Implant Center. They take me in immediately (review to come later as these people are MARVELOUS). I get checked in quick and tell them I have a full facial x-ray with the CROOK. They attempt to get it but that CROOK office NEVER even sent it I find out a bit later. When I am seen by Dr. Gupta (a very capable and considerate dentist) she says we need a full facial and that the CROOK hasn't sent it. THEY DO ONE FOR FREE. I then sit with Andy who goes over everything with me financially and the work I needed done. I agree to the service and they immediately prep and do the work. Superior service here unlike the CROOK Boghossian. This terrible office charged me $250 for an x-ray that Peninsula Dental did for free. They charged my insurance $225 for this GREEDY CROOK to outright blame me for my spinning tooth by asking if I am a smoker or grinder. I spent maybe 10 minutes in an office that charged me nearly $500 to ask if I SMOKE. That x-ray I paid for didn't do me ANY good. I do have to commend Craig who answered my call when I asked why Boghossian didn't call me to DO HIS JOB that I paid almost $500 for. He was very easy to talk to and very apologetic promising that he would tell the CROOK to call me. No call to this day. This is malpractice. 1st off what horrible person let's his patient go home in pain with a spinning tooth then charge him nearly $500 to make him feel ashamed and embarrassed? I Don't Smoke and I do grind but not like a beast. Was that why my crown dislodged from my post, I just don't know but it sure felt more like an attack against me more than against the possibly caused mistake the previous dentist who placed the implant did. I thought they were permanent and I found out that s/b true from (not the crook) Peninsula Dental. Suffice it to say I will not go back to spend maybe a total of 10 minutes for a $500 NOTHINGBURGER. But I will make the suggestion that anyone planning on being seen here that you call your insurance to find out what you s/b charged. If you do you will save 100s. read more

Our dentist referred us here for the removal of our Teenagers wisdom teeth. The office staff worked with us to explain what our insurance pays and what our portion would be for the procedure. When it came down to performing the procedure everything was great. Everything went well and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Boghossian and his staff are wonderful. He removed my upper wisdom teeth, and it went smoothly and comfortably. He described everything well and gave me tips to feel comfortable. His staff explained what to do before and after. They answered all my questions, explained everything clearly, and gave me written instructions. Plus, as I was experiencing pain before I contacted them, they took me immediately for a consult and squeezed me in for the procedure in just a few days. Since I get sick with IV sedatives, he used a local anesthetic plus oral relaxants. He listened to me and adjusted to accommodate my needs. Disappointed my experience wasn't as pleasant as the other reviews. In the first 15 minutes of my appointment I was given a video to watch on wisdom teeth extraction, which was disappointing because the reason I set up the appointment was to talk to someone face to face instead of a video I could have Googled myself. I thought I would finally get my questions answered when Dr Boghossian arrived, but he was very rushed with my diagnosis and told me to ask my follow up questions to the nurse. When I asked my question to the nurse, it also felt like she was trying to rush me out the door. Hopefully I am not too groggy. I just had a wonderful tooth extraction of my #19, lower-left molar. Everything from the greeting at the front desk and back to the procedure room, everybody was very friendly. I think they liked my Santa Hat. The procedure was just about an hour. I felt no pain, occasional pressure, my blood pressure and O2 levels stayed great. I am one of those kooks that likes to look at things and I brought the tooth home. The tooth and one of the roots came out in tact. We went out back to take a group photo. I was so excited to have the first phase done. I look forward to my follow up appointments. So happy to have been referred to this local practice, less than a mile from my home, and very professional. Update: I got a very nice text message from Dr. B. checking on my last night. I had oral surgery this morning to have a three tooth bridge removed following a bad infection beneath the teeth. Two back teeth needed to be removed as well as the bridge itself. Most of the discussions online described this as a difficult procedure with iV sedation recommended. Before I describe the thoughtful and medically sound protocol Dr. Boghassian followed to do the extraction, I want to first thank him for his decency and remarkable skill. From the first time I met Dr. Boghassian, he was kind, funny and concerned about his patients. He took time to explain the procedure and then made a responsible decision to let the area heal properly before going to the next step. Knowing I had been on antibiotics for over 3 weeks(not by choice), he first made sure I was on probiotics (for gut health) and magnesium for electrolyte balance. Then he set up a corticoid (5 tablets) before the procedure to reduce swelling and after extraction pain. He also ordered one tablet of .5 mg Lorazapem for the day of the extraction. After the extraction, he gives a packet of Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain following the extraction. The extraction went flawlessly with his meds and his skill. Once the novocaine was administered, the teeth were extracted without any complications and eight hours later I have minimal pain after a difficult extraction. Most people are afraid of extractions and many doctors want to make the procedure more complicated than it needs to be for the patient's health but Dr. Boghassian is remarkable in his decency and skill and takes the simplest and best path to remove a tooth. If you are fearful about a tooth extraction, Dr.Boghassian and his staff are a wonderful choice. I rarely write reviews because they are filled with the musings of paid writers and bots, but as I sit with my ice pack, my gratitude is sincere for an exceptionally good and kind surgeon. read more

Recently I saw Dr. Boghossian to consult on a crown that fell out. My regular dentist couldn't fix the root needed to be pulled and possibly an implant then back to dentist for a crown. Dr. B already did work on extraction and implant on an upper front tooth. He knew of my chemo and radiation to my head and neck in 1997 for nasopharyngeal cancer. The radiation really caused havoc on my dental health leaving me with a mouthful of crowns. He advised me to hold off on any work and keep an eye keep area healthy to avoid any infection. Not only did it save me money he looked at my history (he had had other patients with similar situations) and saved me needless work which not only not help but make things worst. read more

booked an appointment for an extraction. wayyyy too much drama and they couldn't do it. I got juiced up 3 times, for 3 separate appoints--missing 3 days of work! Three appointments and a fancy oral surgeon like this couldn't give me enough novacaine to numb me enough to extract a tooth?? Worst front office to work with. Got overcharged, because the office did not provide the correct information to insurance, than said they did, but insurance still did not pay. They are not interested in getting paid by the insurance as they already collected your money up front. They also don't understand that yearly limits are exactly that: a limit per year. So delaying steps into next year will get you more coverage from insurance. My daughter got referred there for wisdom teeth and he refused to do the extraction. Never again. read more

June 13th 2007 Dr Brian Fong in RWC referred me to Dr Boghossians's office and I just had my extraction and bone graph on Monday June 11th. I honestly could not be happier with Dr B's bedside manner and professionalism. My recovery is going well and Dr. B called me the same day to check up on me and make sure I was okay. I was quite nervous about the procedure but everything really was seamless and stress free. Honestly, I like the fact that I was knocked out completely for this procedure and have only good thoughts about it..I woke up gently with a blanket on me and that wonderful angel Jeanette leading me to my sisters car. I go back for a F/U on Monday and then In 5-6 months I start the implant process which I will keep everyone on yelp posted on......until then 6/15/07 Called Dr B's office today just to make sure it was still suppose to hurt..... Jeanette came on the phone and assured me that yes everything is normal and it should still be sore.......She really did make me feel a lot better even though I have another week of sorness........I see Dr B on Monday, until then....... 6/19/07 So I went to see Dr B yesterday and the healing process is just taking longer than projected.....this is understandable since a procedure like this are complex and you just have to have a LOT of patience:) Its a good thing I do.....I went in again today so that they can help the healing along with a dressing. I wont get into too much detail but the good news is that I can work out and I should be in a better position by the end of this month..... What I really love about this office beside the care I get is that the staff is just great! So sincere and so nice.....thank you so much guys! read more

I went in to get all four of my wisdom teeth out early Friday morning and couldn't have had a better experience! They gave me anti-anxiety and anti-nausea medicine to take an hour before so going in I was very calm even though I tend to have moderate anxiety in certain situations. It took about 2 hours to extract all the teeth and all the the doctors were very nice to me. I was given light iv sedation, and even though it took a while for them to find a good vein, in a few minutes I was out and woke up sleepy but not at all loopy when they were finished. The rest of the day I was functioning totally normal, had very little pain and no crazy side effects I've seen from other people who've just had their wisdom teeth removed. They even called me later that day to check on me. I wasn't feeling great about learning I had to get all my wisdom teeth removed but after this experience I am very happy with the process. read more

Amazing!!! I had four wisdom teeth pulled in October 2010 and Dr. Boghossian and his staff were all incredible before, during, and after. My consultation with Dr. Boghossian went very well and everything was set to go and scheduled. When I arrived the day of my surgery I literally burst into tears in the front office. My anxiety was totally overwhelming... I was given some medications to help me relax, and then got into the chair to get started. What an outstanding and compassionate oral surgeon. I had the worst dental pain of my life for 3 days and it was leading up to the day before Thanksgiving. I called his office 1st thing in the morning when they opened. Because it was the day before Thanksgiving, his schedule was already packed and he only had a "skeleton crew" because several of his staff were already on vacation. At first, they told me that it was going to be difficult to fit me in, but I told the office staff I was speaking to that I was in severe pain and that if Dr. B would accommodate me. They sure did. I got my appointment a few hours later and had my infected wisdom tooth extracted. He did the best he could given the difficulty of the procedure (I did not have procedural sedation) and he was excellent at it. Thanks to him, I recovered very fast. That day when I left his office I was already in a lot less pain. He is a life saver and I recommend him very highly to anyone looking for a great oral surgeon.
