Dr. Consani is a sweetheart... immediately gave me 'everyone's favorite funny uncle' vibes. Gina at the front desk is also lovely and was so sweet about my ridiculous levels of dentist anxiety. I am terrified of the dentist, always have been, probably always will be. Dr. Consani immediately calmed my nerves with his laid back, friendly, kind and genuine energy (has great taste in background music, too!) I have to have a procedure done which I wasn't at all expecting to hear after religiously taking care of my teeth and following every one of my dentists orders the last few years. As he's so gently and thoroughly explaining everything to me, I began to cry right there in the chair. At 36 years old, I was pretty embarrassed, ha, and he didn't even miss a beat - kindly just handed me a tissue and kept it moving. Praying for a smooth procedure and recovery, but the confidence I have in him moving forward really helps - He clearly knows what he's doing, yet equally has the best bedside manner I've ever seen in any specialist ever. I am one week postop from having my gum graft & things are helling well. The proceedure was relitively painless & straight forward. He just gave me some local anasthetic & the proceedure itself did not take long. His instructions on eating soft foods, no bending or lifting etc. for a week were easy to follow. The pain was minimal; nothing a little Advil could not handle. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone needing gum care. On another note, his assistant, Connie, is wonderful; also answering questions & going over postop instructions. He had some wonderful American & Italian music playing in the room with Andrea Bocelli & others; among the songs, were some American ones translated into Italian like Brian Adams' Have you Ever Really Loved A Woman. I am more than happy to write a strong review for Dr. Kevin Consani. I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about being referred to a periodontist for gum graft surgery. However, I asked my dentist and 5 other friends that are general dentists for referrals for a periodontist that has a practice near my home in San Mateo. All 6 of these dentists referred me to Dr. Scott Miliken who retired last year however 3 of these dentists told me that his partner, Dr. Kevin Consani was excellent, too. During my initial consultation, I was impressed by Dr. Consani's warm and caring chairside manner. Dr Consani is honest, ethical and does not overcharge his patients. Also, I appreciate the fact that he recommends the most minimally invasive treatment option for his patients. Dr. Consani was able to put me at ease and thoroughly explained the pros and cons of different treatment options for gum recession ranging from least invasive (e.g. do nothing, wait and watch the pockets of recession) to the most invasive gum graft surgery that involves taking an oral sedative called Halcion that you take 30 minutes before the surgery but once you take it, you're not allowed to drive a car and someone else has to drive you to and from the gum graft appointment. Out of the 4 types of gum graft surgeries (e.g. alveolar, pedicle, free soft tissue, connective), Dr. Consani chose the most minimally invasive gum graft option for me. Basically, he told me that he would cut a small airplane strip of tissue from the roof of my mouth then suture the donor tissue under the two adjacent teeth with gum recession. I asked him how much pain would I feel or how much time would I need to take off from work. He told me that I can use Advil to manage the pain and reduce swelling. Since he used local anesthesia, I didn't need to take time off from work because I can drive myself to and from my appointment. On the day of my gum graft procedure, Dr. Consani soaked a Q-tip in Novocain then gently rubbed the Q-tip over my gums, then I read a People magazine while I waited for the Novocain to numb my gums. After about 15 minutes, Dr Consani gave me some shots with more Novocain that I barely felt and then he did my gum graft. The surgery part of the gum graft took about 30 minutes for my first appointment and about 20 minutes for my second appointment. I am pleased that my recovery went smoothly. I didn't have any complications because I followed Dr. Consani's post op directions. After about 72 hours, the silly putty that he used to stop the bleeding fell out and I was down to taking one Advil every 6 hours. When it came time to settle my final bill, I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to pay anything because Dr. Consani spread out my gum grafts over 2 months in 2 different billing years. The first gum graft was done on Nov. 20,2019, and then the second gum graft was done on January 13, 2020. By scheduling my 2 gum grafts in two different billing years, Dr. Consani stayed under the $2000 annual Delta Dental insurance maximum. It has been 6 weeks since my second gum graft. I am a very happy patient. My gums healed beautifully, the sutures dissolved without any infections and the donor tissue from the roof palate is blending in with the gum tissue under my teeth. read more

I was charged 134 dollars for a visual exam where he simply measured my pocket depth of my gums. He didnt even take 20 minutes. He said he would place implant and refer me to a different dentist to place the crown. This is bogus. I've had implants done before and there is no need for another dentist to place the crown. It just seems wishy washy. Very professional but I feel like I got robbed. read more

I saw Dr. K. Consani on Aug 2021 for the first time through a referral from a family member. It all started calling his office for a correct direction since the web direction is incorrect. I spoke to Gina and asked for the direction which was a mistake. I asked her on the day of the appointment why she kept me on California Ave. and not re-direct me to El Camino and Trousdale which is where the building is located. All she could tell me was parking. Dr. Consani was nice when he treated me, but that turned out to be something else. He told the family member who works in his practice that he did not like the way I spoke to Gina and should have escorted me out, but he did not. He also twisted some of the context in our conversation. He turned this incident into a personal attack. This is one professional dentist who lacks honesty and integrity. LRA read more

I had a failing root canal, and my dentist referred me to see Dr. Consani to have the tooth pulled and an implant placed. It takes a whole bunch of office visits to pull a tooth and get an implant, and every single time I go, I hardly sit down in the waiting room before they call me back. Dr. Consani has always taken the time to make sure all my questions were resolved and gets me on my way without delay. There will be pain! but for me, it wasn't as bad as I expected. and I was very glad that Dr. Consani worked quickly and didn't waste any time dilly-dallying while drilling into my jaw. Follow-up visits were extremely quick. From my dentist, he opined that Dr. Consani's work is arguably better than an oral surgeon, since, being a periodontist, Dr. Consani takes more care around your gums when pulling a tooth and placing the implant. read more

I had to get gum surgery and was not looking forward to it! Had one done before with another l surgeon and it was very painful. On the second go round, Dr. Consani did it and , while there was some minimal pain, it did not even compare to the previous one! He and his staff are timely, efficient, and nice. I recently had a dental implant completed by Dr. Consani. All of my multiple office visits during the process were outstanding. I was always taken on time, never having to wait. Dr. Consani took his time to explain in detail the process; he carefully reviewed by case to re-affirm that I was a good candidate for an implant and actually waited a little longer (according to him) prior to the final crown being fitted, to ensure that the implant had "taken". His front office staff is very friendly and helpful. There was a small dispute with my insurance carrier regarding coverage, and the staff was quite patient,never asking for payment until the issue was resolved.
