One of the biscotti - chocolate coconut maybe had a funny taste, possibly too much baking powder and tasted stale. The other biscotti was ok. It is a cute place and if I was int he are again and wanted the german chocolate cake, I may give it a second chance. This bakery is a hole-in-the-wall on the Main street of Safety Harbor...it's tiny, but mighty! For the size, they really have a large variety of freshly baked treats. They have a lot of different authentic biscottis & many delightful bars and cakes! They have several different soft-style cookies in jars that are sold per cookie so it's a great way to try several good sized cookies without breaking the bank (I believe it was $1.75 a cookie). I grabbed a few of their bars to try & they were all super fresh- really do taste like a grandma's family recipe! My favorite was the blueberry cream crumb bar- Excellent crumble topping, lots of blueberries, & a delightful cream layer! The cake is so light and fluffy...perfectly crafted. The coconut cream pie bar is a star & only available on weekends. It's really hard to find a tasty coconut cream pie in the area so I'm thankful to finally find a good one! I tried a lemon donut and two biscotti (original and chocolate coconut) from the Dunedin Saturday morning market. The donut was absolutely delicious! It's more like a cake, and it was light and fluffy. It also had pastel chocolate chips on it -- just in time for Easter. It was $1.50 for it, and I felt like that was a steal. As for the biscotti, unfortunately they weren't for me. If you love the taste of anise, you'll probably love the original one. I just felt like it was overwhelming. I also think they may do better storing it in glass containers rather than plastic ones. The biscotti didn't taste as fresh as I expected, and I feel like that's probably due to its storage. Every dessert is done well here from their insanely good cookies to this Ny crumb cake. The ny crumb cake has a slightly crunchy crumb crust with a sour cream infused cake . You don't really taste the sour cream and it's their to provide moisture. The cookies are among the top 5 I've had in Clearwater and a must try. I usually opt for the more plain flavors so I got the chocolate chip and walnut. It's everything you wanted in a cookie , crispy on the outside and soft on the inside . In 2007, this sweet shoppe opened its doors in this now 101-yr-old town. Recently, it won The People's Choice Award for Safety Harbor. Bakery master/owner Joey greeted us. We learned that his favorite dessert is his Coconut Cream Pie, which unfortunately had already sold out by the time we arrived. All our bakery items were (are) fresh & delicious. I especially LOVED LOVED LOVED the Chocolate Bailey's Irish Cream brownie. It was SO much more than a "brownie"! My daughter (who seldom eats desserts) is STILL talking about how moist & delicious the Blueberry Crumb Cake & Amaretto Almond Cake were! She's already requested a return visit:-) Prices were standard for a bakery in the Tampa Bay area. Foolish I forgot to buy at least one of the bakery's namesake: biscotti, of which there were 8 varieties available (see pic). I'll definitely return for a try! The interior is quaint & clean. Award ribbons adorn the walls. It's an adorable little shoppe draped in blue & white. There are two tables inside, & a table for two outside near the sidewalk. I hadn't realized what a fascinating old town Safety Harbor is. I'm thrilled we stumbled upon it, & very happy we decided to step into this bakery to be introduced to SWEET CULINARY EXCELLENCE! Much to my surprise, I discovered this review was sitting in draft form rather than being completed. Clearly, I take procrastination to a new level suitable as an art form. If you are going to specialize in just ONE thing, biscotti, you might as well do it right! And Joey certainly does! The taste and consistency are exactly right, just like in Italy. My only complaint is Joey doesn't do espresso. Personally, nothing goes better with sweet biscotti that sharp and aromatic espresso. Delicious homemade sweets in the heart of Safety Harbor. I read a ton of Yelp reviews about this bakery, so I had it bookmarked for a while. I was meeting with another business nearby, so I decided to pop over to grab a few sweets. There was a sign that said back in 10 minutes. Only for a bakery that has this good Yelp reviews would I wait outside in the Florida summer heat for ten minutes. I was literally sweating by the time the owner came back to open the door, but it was well worth it. This is the quintessential locally owned and operated business. That's why when the owner has something to do, more often than not the shop has to put up a be back soon sign. There is no one else working in this little bakery. The owner is also the person baking all the goods. I love homemade sweets, so I was won over before I even tried anything. They have a good array of biscotti and other baked goods. It rotates often, so you'll have to keep coming back to try a new favorite. I had a hard time choosing, but I ended up going with the Salted Caramel Cheesecake and the Stoner's Delight. I know others have waxed poetics about the Stoner's Delight, but the Salted Caramel Cheesecake stole the show for me. I love the juxtaposition of salty and sweet. You can see the sea salt on the top of the cheesecake. It was divine. I enjoyed the Stoner's Delight, but I probably would try something else next time. It is a combination of peanut butter, chocolate, rice krispies, and marshmallow. It has a ton of other ingredients, but those were the ones that stuck out to me. My family and I stopped by this cute little place while we were in the Clearwater area. We ALL have a sweet tooth so this was the perfect place for us to be on vacation. Joey (I'm assuming) greeted us and answered our ridiculous questions about treats we never tried before. OMG!!! Amazing! I wanted to visit Safety Harbor because I am a Hallmark Movie watching gal and they filmed a movie in the town so I had to go see it for myself. What's a girl to do? Well, find a cute little bakery in the middle of that town that has raving Yelp reviews and go check it out for herself. I decided to buy a dark chocolate cherry brownie, two kinds of biscotti and a chocolate cookie (huge) to share with my Dad (who I was visiting in FL). Okay, confession... the cookie never made it to his apartment. I mean it really did not have a chance. It was longing for me to take a bite of it and once I did, well, the rest was history (or gone... in a matter of no time). It was amazing. The brownie and biscotti options did make it to my Dad's apartment and the brownie was big enough that we split it in 4 pieces and had it for 2 nights in a row. Let me just say, it could have very well been the best brownie I have ever had in my life. I'm just saying... that cherry frosting and cherries within the brownie... OMG... heaven! The biscotti was good (I am not a huge fan of biscotti but wanted to try some with coffee... we had a butter pecan one and a cinnamon one). The butter pecan one was the best of the two. Cinnamon one did not have enough cinnamon in it for me. We managed to spread those over several days, also, since the biscotti was fairly large. This may very well become a must stop for me when I visit my Dad (which is at least 2/year). Besides I have to go back so I can walk out on the pier... what a great excuse. Like if there's 6 people inside, you'll be stumbling over each other while trying to decide what you want to order, and hoping no one opens the door into your butt. I was torn between a bunch of different things, and was excited to see they had sampler boxes. I was then sad to see they were mixed with chocolate sweets. I was happy again when the woman behind the counter offered to switch some boxes around and give me one minus chocolate. I was even more happy when the things I tried were delicious! In my box, I had a cranberry bar, a key lime bar, a piece of salted caramel cheesecake, and a caramel apple bar. The only one I wouldn't order the full-size of was the cranberry one. The others were phenomenal. I'm not a cheesecake person, but I would dive into theirs again. It was a little salty, a little sweet, and super rich. The key lime was the perfect mix of sweet and tart. I loved my experience at Joey Biscotti. I was walking around Safety Harbor, looking for some coffee. I asked the locals and they said, "we have Starbucks." Where are the cute local coffee shops? I asked. They replied..."We don't really have any, but have you tried the bakery?" Off to the bakery I went. It was very small but as soon as I walked in the smell of deliciousness greeted me. It smelled like sweet and warm and chocolate and just yummy, I don't really have the words to describe it. It was nice and cozy in there which was perfect because it was really cold and windy out. The place is really small, there's only one table which is already half full of pastry display trays full of ready to purchase treats. We sat in the only 2 chairs, pushed some of the for sale items out of the way and made ourselves at home. :) You get a free coffee with your purchase of anything. It's a Keurig machine in which you make the coffee yourself, nothing special. Honestly, I could have cared less that what I originally wanted was coffee since I was too busy stuffing my face with delicious little treats. I got the sampler. It came with 4 small pieces of their best sellers: I'm pretty sure what we got were the White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl, Pumpkin and Caramel Apple, Lime Coconut Cake and Chocolate Toffee Cake Pudding. Each one more delicious than the last. Very moist, well balanced, not overpoweringly sweet goodness. My favorite was the lime coconut cake one, I hope I'm calling it the right thing...my second favorite was their chocolate toffee cake. The chocolate taste was subtle ,the frosting was buttery and smooth. Carrot cake was just as delightful. But I came for the biscotti- many flavors to choose from -try the Mexican chocolate-not spicy just true chocolate roll on the tongue. I just couldn't decide. I went with the lime coconut bar, carrot cake and some gooey square (think pineapple coconut cake with German chocolate frosting). This is the first bakery I've been to that serves goodies like the ones my mom loves to make. That's a good thing, 'cuz she's a hell of a baker, but lives 45 minutes away. Joey Biscotti is a much quicker drive. Before coming in, I'd already had my sights on JB as a potential 2nd stop for my UYE (unofficial Yelp event). I think it was my gut instinct (haha) but I was right. The desserts here are phenomenal! I had the Mexican Fiesta Brownie and Jessica S. went for the Lime Coconut Bar with semisweet chocolate drizzle. We both enjoyed our own treats but exchanged bits and sampled each other's. My brownie was perfectly dense and sweet without overdoing it. The cayenne in this dessert gives it a little bit of a kick, but it's not horribly spicy. Definitely a unique item. The lime coconut bar was Florida in a square. The textures and tastes were lively and decadent, with the lime taking a spotlight as the fresh, bright top note. The chocolate drizzle acted as a sweet sidekick, and together they made a lovely pair. After nibbling on these, we split a Gooey Pineapple Lover's cake with coconut pecan frosting. Sounds sinful, right? Ohhhh, it was. Moist cake, swirled with the taste of pineapple and pecans, carried me off to a land where dessert is every meal of the day and calories don't matter. Then I took a sip of coffee and woke up from my daydream. Speaking of coffee, you'll get a free cup of it with your purchase. They have a cute little Cuisinart brewer with K-pods, and all of the fixin's, for a good cup of joe to accompany your sweets. It's also worth mentioning that their goods are on rotation here. I am not a huge sweets eater, but if I lived closer to Joey Biscotti I would likely be enjoying desserts a lot more often. After a big lunch at the Whistle Stop Grill just down the block, I was walking along the sidewalk and spotted the sign for Joey Biscotti. This is a European-style small-batch bakery and sweets shop that puts about 20 different items in the main display case and also showcases jars of flavored Italian-style biscotti cookies. The owner had just slid a tray of something new into the oven, and he came up front to visit with me and help me make a selection. Since I was enjoying an afternoon of exploring I told him that I needed to pick something that wouldn't melt in the car, and ultimately he helped me to pick a pineapple coconut cake thing that was drizzled with a caramel icing. The prices were very affordable, and everything looked delicious. When I finally enjoyed the cake it was extremely moist and the flavors of pineapple and coconut were fantastic. There are lots of parks in the Safety Harbor area, so I can imagine picking up a little something at Joey Biscotti and then sitting in the shade as you enjoy your treat. read more

Not sure which I liked better; the amazing treats at this place, or the wonderful owners! I was in Clearwater for 3 days. We took a drive over to Safety Harbor and stumbled upon this very charming bakery. I met one of the owners, Steven, who was very pleasant. Not being able to decide on which treat we wanted, we got several (can you say gorging?). We started with the Lime Coconut Bar with Bittersweet Drizzle. OMG! I have NEVER tasted anything so good. The lime gooey part was like the consistency of custard and was beyond delicious. The chocolate drizzle on the top was the perfect compliment to the lime. If you go here and can only get 1 thing, I definitely recommend this. It was just SO good. Next, we dug into a piece of the Sour Cream Crumb Cake (ok, I recommend this too!). WOW! Also, beyond delicious. The cake was so moist and flavorful, and the topping you just couldn't get enough of. I was in love! The third thing we got, I forgot the name of. If I had to describe it, I would call it like a cobbler. It was in a tin and was enough for several people to enjoy. It had all kinds of different berries in it - with a wonderful topping. More extreme deliciousness! The next day, we HAD to go back. Had to. Not an option not to visit this place again! It was Friday and they were open till 8pm so it worked out perfectly. This night we met the second owner, Joe. These guys are the kind of people you want to be your friends. They were warm and welcoming and just very pleasant. At Joe's recommendation, I got the Apple Pie Cheesecake Bar. It was an excellent recommendation! It was exactly what the name says it is, like apple pie, but with a thin middle of cheesecake. SO GOOD. My friend had the award-winning Chocolate Fudge Cake. I have never eaten cake that good. Besides all the delicious, mouth-watering treats, you also can enjoy a FREE cup of coffee. There's a table out front to sit at, and a table with a few chairs inside. The shop itself is very clean and charming. The prices were extremely reasonable. There were some things that were $2.50, $3, $4, and the tin of cobbler was only $6 and was quite enough to share with others. Nothing was expensive. I was so glad that I stopped in here; I enjoyed talking to the owners. If you are anywhere near Clearwater or the surrounding area, this place is a must-visit. I'm actually glad I don't live in Safety Harbor, because if I did, I would be at Joey's every day getting something different - and I certainly don't need to be adding to my already-large-enough-frame! It was great while it lasted! Besides Joey's, the town is really cute and charming to walk around (plenty of free street parking all throughout the town). We had our first taste Of Joey's when a cake was ordered by my sister. The following year I called and ordered again from him. My big mistake was taking a couple of samples out of the dessert case. Now my car wants to stop right in front of Joey's every time I drive by. I can tell you that the Germain choc cake is worth every penny. It is dense but very moist. Brownies and cookies and cakes oh my! This bakery is small but they have lots of goodies to choose from. Was torn between the salted caramel bar, oh so good looking brownies or the oatmeal peanut butter bar with chocolate and caramel on top. Oatmeal peanut butter was the winner! The owner let us sample the Mexican brownie. And love that they offer free coffee with any purchase. A nice touch! Very clean bakery but dangerously addicting! read more
