Oriental Cuisine

Oriental Cuisine

Oriental Cuisine opened up just under a year ago now, so the novelty of it still hasn't worn off…read more It is part of a new development in Carfin/New Stevenston, and is one of a group of new shops in the retail park. The awesome thing about Oriental Cuisine is that it is part of a hybrid Indian/Chinese take away, both of which are in the same premises. If you have a fussy household, then you can order both together here, which is fantastic. However, the downside is that they both have separate delivery drivers, so if you rang for it to be delivered it wouldn't get sent at the same time, which is pretty weird. Makes no sense to me! The menu is pretty massive, too massive in my opinion! It is so hard to choose from the numerous chicken, beef, fish and veggie dishes that they have, prepared in a traditional Chinese or Malaysian style. A great deal to take advantage of is the aptly named 'happy meal', which is available at all times, and includes soup, an appetiser and a main meal with rice and small bag of prawn crackers for a fantastically purse friendly £8! I usually go for the chicken and sweetcorn soup, which is lovely, thick and gloopy, just like it should be. Then I get the classic spring rolls, which I'm normally not to keen on but the ones from here are yummy! Really crispy and packed with loads of Chinese veggies. The Kung Po chicken (hold the cashew nuts!) is awesome too. The bite sized pieces of chicken in light batter with sweet peppers and crunchy water chestnuts and baby corn is definitely one of Oriental Express' best dishes. Really good Chinese, and well worth a visit. Go for the Happy Meal for ultimate value for money!

This particular one is definitely a keeper, the menu is really extensive - I always wonder how on earth they can even have the ingredients there to make half the curries. The price isn't bad, but it's not cheap! I'm a spice pussy, so the korma does me nicely thank you. It's quite good...not amazing, but quite nice!

As I got older, I realised my tastes had changed, and now, I would say that Chinese and Indian take aways are on an even keel for me. This take away opened up a few years ago, and helped convert me to the ways of spice. The menu is big and varied. If there is something you want but don't see, you will probably be able to order it anyway, if you just ask the chef. The people who own The Curry Club have become friends, and often give us discounts, and even bring stuff to our back gate (which is literally ten steps away from the take away). The owners are friendly and personable, always asking me how I'm getting on at Uni and even making my boyfriend feel welcome when I started dating him, which was lovely. The stand out favourite from The Curry Club has got to be the pizzas. They are to die for! The base is always crispy on the outside, but just the right amount of doughy in the middle, and they are always brimming with toppings and cheese. A medium pizza is around 12" and could easily feed four people. They do meal deals too, like a 10" pizza, chips, king kebab and can of juice for about £8, brilliant if you have people round to watch a film. Their munchy boxes are also fab, at £5-£9 depending on the size. They usually contain a good sized nann bread, pakora, chicken chatt, chicken tikka, chips and salad. Not the healthiest of meals, but damn tasty when you just can't be bothered cooking and you don't care about your waistline, which happens to me far too often! The currys are good and don't skimp on portion size or quality. We usually get the meal deal for £15.99, which includes 2 curries of your choice, two rices, salad, nann bread and pakora, which is more than enough for 4 people, and really tasty. My personal favourite is the Chicken Dansac, a lentil and chicken curry which is just the right side of spicy. The prices are really good, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it's just that little bit too convenient for me! You have to try a Curry Club pizza before you die, I insist!
