As my latest sojourn to visit Moms in the dirty south winds down, I notice her cupboards are…read morestarting to look a little bare. The thoughtful son I am, I volunteer to head down to the local grocery store to stock her up before I leave, and buy ingredients for the dinner I offered to cook (meatloaf, in its bacon-topped glory - http://static3.px.yelp.com/photo/3MfWxSF-IvWCHBiN-UkMag/l ). So which store? Ralph's? Nope. Albertsons? Nada. Brookshire's is the place...that's how they do groceries south of the Mason-Dixon. It's your standard grocery store; clean, well laid-out, with a nice meat department (all butchering and grinding is free), a nice fruit and vegetable section, as well as the usual mix of national and store brands. So you won't have any problem getting that DiGiorno (not delivery) frozen pizza, Cheetos, or whatever else you've got a taste for. And like any market, they have items to appeal to the local clientele. Need fresh calfs' liver? Maybe some live crawfish? A gallon jug of sweet tea? Or the latest copy of Chewin' Tobacco and Shotguns Weekly? Okay, I made that last one up, but either way, Brookshire's will cover you. One other thing to note, especially if you're a SoCal native. Here, the employees are a little strange. They say things like "Hi!" and "Can I hep' ya find anything?" on a regular basis. And once they've rung you up and loaded your groceries in the cart, they take the groceries out to your car and load them for you, smiling the whole time. Having lived in SoCal all my life, people being that nice (without charging me for it) automatically puts me on the defensive. But it's cool - the people here are just very nice and helpful. Just come on in, and do your shopping while enjoying that legendary Southern hospitality.

This store is clean. They have plenty of checkout counters. They are friendly. When you're all…read morebagged up, they offer to carry your bags out to your car. On the floor, they have clerks that will assist you if you need to have help. The only thing that threw me off was the layout; which, I'd just about reverse of most stores. But that is not a big issue. Their pharmacy is top notch. I am from out of town, they were able to get my prescriptions from their sister store chain, Super 1, and fill them promptly.

I am so surprised at the decline in the appearance & attitudes of Walmart employees. When I first…read morestarted shopping WM stores (many moons ago), the employees all dressed clean & neatly with some sort of tag, shirt, or vest identifying them as a WM employee. And, You would NEVER see an able bodied WM employee coming out of the handicapped stall in the restroom either. Well today I saw a MANAGER in a baggy old t-shirt & wrinkly jeans. Before that I (unfortunately handicapped) had to wait for a H-stall (can't get up without bars etc.) for approximately 5 minutes while leaning on my matching canes. When the H-stall door finally opened...out pops a energized WM employee named Angel. No sign of any disability. She says (while looking at me leaning on my canes & her grinning real big) "oh, you waiting on me". "Yeah, I was", I told her & made my way into the stall. Sadly to say, this wasn't the first time I'd been waiting & a WM employee popped out, but it was the longest I'd had to stand waiting. I've had to wait for electric buggies only to find children riding around in some of them. I know this in itself is a convenience supplied by Walmart, but it would be nice if the boundaries that not only Walmart, but society itself has set, could be maintained or at least attempted. I give this rating , but if being honest, mostly because of my history of being a die hard Walmart fan. Feeling

I'm 5'3 and the handle comes up to my chest, this wouldn't be a problem but I have a three year old and getting him in and out of the new shopping charts is a hassle every single time (even when I have someone with me). I can't reach far enough to get him in or out usually resulting in one or both shoes coming off. The leg hole for the carts are super small as well which is another reason the shoes come off. Love everything about the store so far, just the carts aren't practical for mothers shopping by themselves and as I said even with help it's hard if that person's short too.
