Looks like most of the reviews are of the old location on the square. I eat at ESB 2-3 times a month for lunch and everything I've ever ordered, Gusher, burgers, Rueben etc were good. Service can get slow at times but they do get slammed at lunch so not too surprising. I don't eat salads so can't comment on the salad bar, but one of my lunchmates does and I've never heard him complain. I think you get a fair amount of food for the price. MUch better than some local fast food restaurants. read more

Beyond not good. They actually had canned mushrooms on the salad bar, and tried to justify it cause of how much cheaper canned is vs fresh, yet their cost of the salad bar was not cheap. We will never be returning. read more

Not very impressed by the menu. The sandwiches were okay. I wanted to replace my potato chips with something a bit healthier... maybe fruit or veggies but they said no. This is the only restaurant in town with a salad bar. The salad bar had plenty of greens and vegetables. I also tried a carrot cake cupcake that was very bland and didn't have cream cheese frosting... WTH! Our waitress never refilled our beverages. She never came by to check up on us. Our meals took forever to come out and the waitress never bothered to apologize for the wait. She didnt tell us we had to get up and pay at the front and literally sat there for about 10 minutes waiting to see her so we could get the check. Terrible service overall. For some items on the menu (the Reuben and the chicken salad) they do a decent job given that, yes, you're in the middle of nowhere. The salad bar is alright -- some green leaf lettuce can be found, a rarity in South Arkansas -- but it's not going to overwhelm you with its selection. The actual baked goods (it's a bakery) are hit or miss: the cinnamon buns and muffins are a miss, the ice box pies and eclairs are a hit. The coffee is odd -- primarily because the iced coffee is typically mixed with far too much cream and in the end you have coffee-flavored cream. Or, depending on the server, the iced coffee might be regular hot drip poured over iced (totally confounding). No, where the Elm Street Bakery comes up dreadfully short is the service. It's possibly the worst in town (up there with the crazed owner of House of Wylie's). The severs are standoffish and often downright rude. And a smile? Never to be seen on their dour, bitter faces. I have been to this restaurant many times. Up until the last 6 months it would have merited a stellar review with the exception of the high price of the menu vs. the amount you receive. The best thing about it was the salad bar. Now they are changing it with a sign asking for feedback. Good luck finding a waitress for feedback. Horrible service, will never come here again. Went intending to get the unlimited salad bar and the waitress misunderstood and frantically stopped me in the middle of me getting a refill and said that the salad bar is one-time only and had to check with her manager on what to do then served 3 other people and made me wait there. When she came back and said I could finish by which I found was very rude to make someone stop and stand there with their food for 10 minutes and I asked to speak to the manager to which she defended how rudely they made me wait. If I had made a mistake, I would have happily paid more money, but I don't appreciate being stopped in the middle of my meal and not even having the courtesy of an immediate answer. read more

Be careful of unexpected charges. I have eaten here about 6 times and 4 of those times ended up costing more than expected. Sometimes only a $1 or so but sometimes $6 - $8 more. Friends have had similar experiences. One example, I ordered a sandwich. "Would you like chips, fries, or onion rings with that?" I'll have fries. I am then charged for the sandwich and also charged for a separate order of fries, not a side of fries but an appetizer order of fries (even though it came on the side of the sandwich). When I asked about it, was told sandwiches come with chips so you pay extra for fries...but they don't tell you that. Another example, sign said they are now offering potatoes and to try the potato/salad bar combo. I ordered that. Was told the potato comes out plain and can add the toppings from the salad bar. Now the soup/salad bar and 1/2 sandwich/salad bar combos are $8 or $9 dollars so you think it will be around the same. With the combo they bring you a small plate for a one trip to the salad bar. I got a potato (with toppings) and the small plate for the salad. Was charged $18. Oh, they don't offer a 'combo' for potato and salad bar, you pay for the full salad bar and a potato order....even though the sign said potato/salad bar combo. And even though I only did the one trip salad and not the full, all you can eat salad. Yet another example, sign up fronts lists the soups, one being gumbo. The menu says Soup $4.50 cup $5.50 bowl. I ordered a cup of gumbo. Waitress brought me a bowl of gumbo. When she brought it out I asked if that was a cup. She said they didn't have any cups, making it sound like they didn't have a cup to put it in so put it in a bowl instead. I was then charged for a bowl at the register. I told the lady I had ordered a cup. She said they don't serve gumbo in cups, only bowls and insisted on charging me for the bowl. It's only a $1 but the principle that they bring you something more expensive than what you order without telling you makes it deceptive and unethical. The food is not bad but the deceptiveness of the place makes it a poor choice. I will not go back. Don't want to support that type of business practice knowing it is intentional. read more

I really like this place. The waitresses are sweet, the desserts are yummy, my hubby and I liked the sandwiches we got there, and somehow they were able to make decaffeinated coffee yummy. I'm currently pregnant and can't wait to have their caffeinated coffee. It doesn't look like much when you go in, but give it a chance. read more

Food is great but For someone who loved their food can't eat there after having twins who both need a high chair?! Also what happens when someone needs a high chair but another family has it? I've seen where they offer them other places to eat who has more then one high chair.. Guess they rather lose business to something they can easily buy more of.. Maybe that's their nice way of saying we really don't want kids here.. Hard to eat local when the local restaurants won't accommodate for kids. read more
