Absolutely love this place. It's a bit of a drive from downtown Chicago, but even so this is the place I go because I trust Joe. He tells it to you straight, takes care of his customers, offers very fair prices, and always goes the extra mile. The first time I went to his shop a few months ago, I thought I needed new front struts, brake pads, and possibly a new air filter hose based on what an auto care shop told me during an oil change. Even I could tell my car needed new front struts (due to the deteriorating handling) but the rest, I had no idea. Joe took the time to check out my whole car. He confirmed the struts and air hose, but told me correctly, my brake pads were completely fine. He also took the time to check out the rest of my car to make sure it was ok and reassured me my car would be good for a long time. Joe even explained to me what was wrong with my strut, what it was causing, how important it was because it was affect my braking and showed me how badly my air hose was cracked (I never noticed) and it's effect on my car (relatively minor). My point is Joe's takes care of his customers and this is why I've come back and will keep coming back. I've already came back a few weeks ago for some general maintenance work. New to the area and finding a good auto place is always worrisome. First went to Merlin's as it's near me on Rt. 14, they were all unpleasant. Front desk guy, Kevin I think, was aggressive and simply not enjoyable to communicate with. Yes, they're not their to be my friend, but he came off as dishonest, uncaring about the customers, and talked to me like I knew nothing at all. I'm a young lady who, save I don't know a whole lot about cars, has only ever had used cars that get issues. I know a decent amount and hate it when I'm talked to like an idiot. At Joe's I got the exact opposite experience I did at Merlin's. Every single employee was polite. Joe spoke to me in a straight forward manner, explained anything I didn't understand without talking down to me, and came off as a wholesome person with a wealth of knowledge. They changed my belt and gave me an oil change. I'll need to go back for a broken sway bar (that somehow Merlin's missed while replacing my ball-joint), and typical brake pad and rotor replacements. Not excited about spending the money, but I'm confident in their skill here and their fair pricing. I'll probably get my tires replaced here as well. You'll feel taken care of here because you are. Crook. Friend of mine worked for him for a few months. 8 months ago my friend purchased a motorcycle from him with a bill of sale included. My friend made the mistake of handing this clown cash before having the title present. Joe insists that the title has no lien on it, and it's a clean title, yet "can't seem to find it". It's been 8 months plus of nonstop excuses and still, no title. I sincerely hope my friend takes legal action against this guy for refusing to hand over the title for the motorcycle and legally change over hands of ownership. I do not know this poor excuse of a business owner, I don't even live in the same state. However, this is wrong on so many levels and according to a slew of other similar reviews by a multitude of different people, he makes a habit of ripping people off for sales of motor vehicles and vehicle maintenance and then has a little disappearing act he likes to incorporate. Stay away from this a**hole, I hope justice is served! read more

The only place I trust to touch my car. I wouldn't even think of having Jiffy/Firestone/etc change my fluids after finding this place. Joe's Garage and Customs has become my choice for getting anything done to my car. Joe has helped me in keeping my car properly maintained and running strong. They have helped with my struts, my brakes, and other normal auto maintenance needs. I always had a very quick turn around time. They also have great pricing on parts and their extremely professional and skilled labor. In my experience my parts arrived/installed the very same day and I was in an out of his shop much quicker than anticipated. Lastly the place is very friendly/cool and a somewhat a motorheads paradise. Seriously if you want to make your Chevy SS, GTO, Grand National, Dodge Ram, Vette, Skyline GTR, etc go faster... Joe's Garage was a lifesaver for the amount of work I needed on my car. I live in Chicago and it's a bit of a hike, but I was able to get the $4600 worth of work done (as quoted by Grossinger City Chevrolet on North Ave) for only $2,065. My car is approaching 100,000 miles so I was expecting a bit of a punch but not multiple paycheck's worth. Joe and Chris took care of me and had my car done before Memorial Day as promised. Parts and labor were extremely fair and I noticed an immediate difference in the way my car ran as with the suspension work done. I could not be happier! Recently, I finally fulfilled my dream of owning and refurbishing a classic truck (1955 Chevy Pickup), which is great but scary ground for a 19 year old girl to navigate. Joe's garage is my new place to go when needing automotive repairs. I recently had some suspension work done to my 2000 camaro ss there and I couldn't be happier. I ordered most of the parts beforehand and had them install. I did however need another part for everything to work properly and joe ordered it and I paid his cost with no markup. He immediately diagnosed the issue that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I was very happy that I did not need a whole new transmission.
