Friendly, fast, service and certainly passable--sometimes great--Korean standards. Yes, it's a fast food, cafeteria, or food court kind of place, sure, but it's a Korean place in a Korean grocery store so they know what's up and that they cannot get away with being substandard given how many Korean-American customers they get. Korean-American customers, I might add, who are evidently shopping for ingredients to cook their own food so they're not going to suffer any fools when it comes to restaurants, either. Their galbitang (beef short rib broth soup) was a little bland, not quite as rich a broth as I'd hope for, but still plenty good. The banchan served with it were hit or miss: the tofu one not so good, the kimchi excellent, the seaweed salad alright. And it's hot: very very hot. It will burn you and possibly melt the table if you spill it! Beware and be warned: you need to let your soup cool a bit before digging in here! This is located in the food court inside Lotte Market in Orlando. I want to start by saying to bring a warm jacket because it's extremely cold in this place! There is open seating available where you can enjoy your food. You can either order to dine there or take to go. You order at the register and they give you a buzzer that will go off once your food is done. You pickup your food and return your trays and bowls, etc to the designated area next to the restaurant. My daughter has the spicy ramen. On the menu they have it with seafood but you can order without which is what we did. Also ordered the yaki mandu fried. All was very good. read more

Probably one of the worst bibimbaps I've ever had. The rice was overcooked and mushy, the beef was scarce, the veggies were bland, and the soup given was only 1/4 full??? Most definitely, this is not my first time eating at Jeon, a small a small authentic Korean food franchise located inside of Lotte Market on West Colonial Drive x John Young Parkway Intersection. If you live on the West side of town, Lotte Market, especially Jeon is the place to go for a quick, yet delicious lunch. Their Galbi (Korean Marinated Short Ribs) dish is a phenomenal! The strong aroma spread through the food court even though it have not left the kitchen yet. The flavor was simply delicious. Very flavorful indeed...and it goes perfectly with white jasmine rice and the complementary side dishes (kimchi, bean sprout, pickles radish, or fish cake). In addition, my other favorite would include the Galbi Tang Soup, which is very healthy and light for the belly especially after a long day of work or on a cold windy night. My little brother loves the Japchae and Seafood Stirred Fry Udon. He would literally finished those two dishes solo at any given time. Though they are a bit heavy of the oil side but some soda helps digest it down in no time. The service is great, efficient, and very fast paced. I don't ever recalled waiting more than 15-20 minutes for our foods (unless we ordered more than 3 entrees). On a personal side note, I would appreciated if the young cashier lady would honored my request for more picked (non spicy) radish than giving me Kimchi. The ahjuma (older lady) does it.... I can't eat Kimchi so instead of that I would like a double portion of the other side dishes available (bean sprout or fish cake or pickled radish). Her specific words were "Oh, the side dishes plate were pre-made"...but come on, it doesn't hurt or waste any of her precious time if she just get out another side dish plate considering how the pre-made jars are literally right next to her standing area. Ive been waiting for a Korean food court in Florida and they opened one finally! Joen is the first restaurant in the food court I patronized and I was pretty impressed. They compared well to the food courts I've been to in Atlanta and New York. Being an avid meat eater I had to try the bulgogi bowl. They cooked the meal quick and it was indeed very tasty. Not too sweet or salty. The sides were kimchee, brocolli, fish cake. The kimchee was fermented and spicy, which went well with the bulgogi bowl. I thought the brocolli was out of place. The fish cakes were standard fare. Overall, if I'm in Orlando I'll definitely be back to try some of the other dishes. They make the best Yuk Gae Jang soup in town. I have been to all the Korean restaurants in Orlando, but the flavor of the broth has an amazing Umami flavor that other restaurants are not able to create. Ok, I have only tried Joen this once and only tried the bibimbop, but oh man. A warning this bowl comes out piping hot. Like you could heat a small NYC apartment with the heat coming off this bowl. Tip: ask for another bowl that you can transfer the food into; or you will be waiting a very long time before it is cool enough to eat. Make sure you get the crispy rice that will be stuck to the bottom of the super hot bowl, as this is flavor rice. The gochujang comes on the side so you can add as much or as little as you like. I personally like spicy and could probably have asked for more gochujang. There is a delightful little banchan that comes with your meal and of course a small container of kimchi. You will not be left hungry either. The portion is quite sizable and I left much tastiness behind. There were several other menu items that looked pretty yummy and I have plans to go back and they those as well. read more

Their rent space must be through the roof because they all charge way more than sit-down restaurants and provide measly portions. Service at this one was the worst. Not only unfriendly, but the lady genuinely acted like I was inconveniencing her both when ordering and picking up my food, like she resented my business. I stopped by Lotte's market and was presently surprised to find a food court inside. After my wonderful experience in the supermarket I decided to grab dinner at Joen. I ordered fried dumplings, spicy beef ramen add cheese and galbi dish. The dumplings were average, didn't taste authentic more like something I can buy from Lotte and fry myself. The ramen was not that great, spicy yes, taste was definitely missing. The galbi beef was really tasty. The dishes came with a side of kimchi, bean sprouts and broccoli. Worst bibimbap I've had in my life. I truly believe that bibimbap is one of the hardest dishes to "mess up" but these guys have done it. The rice came out burnt on the bottom. Meat was not seasoned/marinated and came out in a short strip instead of a texture/taste similar to bulgogi. Vegetables could not be made more bland. Not sure if they had put any sesame seed oil in it at all. Usually ingredients come together to create a whole bigger than the sum but this truly sent things the opposite direction The Korean ahjumma in the front had tried to tell us what was good (we had ordered those recommendations as well and it was just barely passable; my mother makes better at home). Looking back, I think she was warning us that the non-recommended was not recommended for a reason. We ended up leaving more than half of our unpalatable dishes behind as they became a chore to eat. I leave this review because I truly hope that people who have never tried Korean cuisine do not eat this and think they'll never give it another try. read more

Food is okay. The KimChi soup is particularly tasty to me but the service is terrible. I've been coming on and off for the past yr and gotten to know the lady who takes the orders. A couple of mths ago, I realized she was no longer here. When I ordered the KimChi soup from this lady, I always asked if she could please give me extra soup. Take out some meat and whatever contents are there if necessary or u can pay a little extra for extra soup. She always took care of me and put my order in a larger bowl with extra soup. Past couple of times I hv stopped in, there's been a 'new' lady. I tried explaining what I wld like to have (extra soup, less meat) but she never seems to understand anything I said. I was here once and spoke to, who I believed to be the one/manager, and explained what I've been getting. Kimchi with extra soup and she said there wouldn't be a problem. Just ask for it next time I'm here. Today 8/22 I came for some soup and asked the lady if she remembered me from a few weeks back. She didn't. I then explained how I had asked if I could hv extra soup from the owner/manager and how she said it wasn't going to be a problem. This lady acted like she didn't speak a word of English and did not understand a word I said. It felt like she didn't care to. I kept explaining and she finally brought the bowl the soup wld be in and said that extra soup wld overflow. I agreed and said that the other lady that I've always ordered from, always put it in a larger bowl. She said very bluntly that it wld be impossible so I will not be going back. Had a fantastic seafood bimbimbap. Chock full of seafood (clam, squid, shrimp, mussels) , enough so that almost every bite of rice came with a seafood gift. I wasn't even that hungry when I got there but it became addicting. The crispy rice on the bottom was creamy and tasty (make sure you stir a few times to get more crispies. They serve their food with three banchan. Ours had kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts and fish cakes. Prices are reasonable, perhaps slightly less than a full service restaurant They had several offerings I have not seen yet in our local Korean eateries so I look forward to trying something new next time. I went to Joen today and ordered my regular, Seafood Bibimbap. I like it because it's spicy, but bearable. I like the squid, mussels and shrimp. Today, I was greatly disappointed. There were no shrimp in the bowl, and six mussels, along with plenty of squid. In addition to the missing shrimp, the squid were tough, and four of the six mussels would not open. When I went to get a take ou box, I complained, and was ignored. They didn't seem to care. I am not sure I will return. read more

The food is decent. Definitely not anything amazing, however, but priced a bit cheaper than most other korean restaurants. I've tried the spicy pork with tofu, the spicy pork bulgogi, and the beef bulgogi. All are nice portions, but none were that good. The beef bulgogi was the best of the three, but still not as good as some other korean restaurants in Orlando. The portions of banchan/side dishes given is pitiful. A $20 meal gets you a thimble full of kimchi and maybe one or two bites to another side. Ultimately, there is a reason why I have only ordered from Joen twice in my past 20+ times eating Korean food in Orlando. The girl that attended me when I approached to express my concern automatically said for me to throw my dish away instead of asking me if I needed help.. When I told her I had a concern she looked bored and uninterested. I told her my portion was ridiculously small for the price.. She then said to me with the worst attitude "the point of the dish is not the meat" I have never heard or experienced such thing when I have come to express my concern at a food establishment. It was quiet shocking.. friends and family who own their own businesses have always expressed how much they take customer concerns so serious... Then she proceeded to try to walk away and roll her eyes... as if I could not see her.. then she said "Did you pay for extra meat" I said no.. and she just stared at me.. I could only respond to her how disappointing this whole experience was and she just walked away. Joen is delicious! There is a good amount of variety to try for it being a restaurant in a grocery mart. We ordered the kimchi pancake, japchae, and bulgogi. All 3 were delicious! One of the pros shopping at Lotte is the choice of a few Korean fast food joints. We decided to give the first stall after entering a try. Since we weren't really hungry, we decided to just share one of the hot rice bowls. My wife double-checked that this was not spicy; this, upon delivery, we found to be 'technically' correct, but since the rice bowl is not really tasty without the sauce, and the sauce packs some impressive heat, it was misleading at least to say so. As well, the bowl came with 3 banchan dishes, two of which were, well, 'reddish'. I wasn't complaining much (more food for ME :-) Plus the food was well prepared. One question worth contemplating is whether these sizzling bowls (don't touch them!) are suitable for rice. For some, the 'burning' of the bottom layer to almost crispy dryness changes the texture to a chewiness that they favor - think "risotto" in advance (OVER-cooked rather than under-cooked to give it the al dente texture); for others, the rice is rendered just a touch too dry, and therefore becomes just too chewy. I think I tend to fall more into the latter camp. Still, it was a nice meal. As I was leaving, I asked the young lady what 'Joen' means in Korean, to which she replied, "It means 'good'!" The first here was pretty good. Price wise was still pricey like most restaurants though it's in a food court. My husband got the galbi dish and he enjoyed it. I got the dolsot bimbibap dish which was over all pretty good. The gentleman there (who I believe was the owner) was very kind. He was expedient and the food was amazing. He even gave us an item on the house which I had never tried before and became a new favorite - the Galbi. It was tender and so flavorful. I am a fan of japchae and have had it many places and it was very authentic in my opinion. When the noodles are cooked as much as they were it's essential to serve the vermicelli with white rice for texture, which is just what I received. My mother loves bibimbap and was very pleased to receive it in a hot clay pot, a way that we rarely get it in the states but makes all the difference in the world. The hot pot both cooks the fresh egg yolk when you stir it and makes the rice crispy, adding both flavor and texture to the meal. I could hear how happy she was while eating it because the flavors were spot on, with the delicious gochujang based sauce. My sister had the mandu-guk (dumpling soup) and said it was very flavorful and there was a lot of it. The Mandu dumplings were fried crispy and the filling was delicious. My niece had spicy ramen - which I didn't get a picture of before it was devoured, and the owner was very accommodating when we asked if it could be made with no seafood since she dislikes it. It came just as we asked and she was very happy with it. Overall it was a wonderful experience. We just moved to South Carolina but are planning to frequently visit Orlando, and it was amazing to find such a gem. We were originally planning to go to another Korean restaurant we know of in the area, but were enticed by the offerings here at the deli/food court area of the Lotte market and we are very glad we made the decision to stop. 10/10. read more

I'm so glad I found this place inside the food court of Lotte Plaza Market! I was deciding between the seafood bi bim bap or the fish stew but happy I went with the bi bim bap. The fish stew will be next on my list for the next time. I also ended up ordering a japchae to take back with me for dinner later that night. I got my fix for the day for sure. For banchan, they had veggies, and bean sprouts, and kim chi. It was a good mix. They had a mix of drinks in their refrigerator but it was mainly sodas and water. The Lotte Market at the corner of John young and Colonial has a little food court inside that includes this place and it was yummy!!! They have the names in English to help with ordering but not any details, luckily it's paired a picture to help you with ordering. Each of our dishes came with a little appetizer/side plate of kimchi and eggplant and entrees came on hott plates I think they were cooked on. There's a rack for each of the food places to return your dishes. Nice thing is if your with ppl you can split up and order from different places to get what you want and still do together before shopping in the store. No carts allowed in the area with tables, so stop in beforehand! read more

(6/19/2019) Came with the fam to check out the new Lotte at Colonial and JYP. Lotte is big in the the MD/DC/VA area, so happy to see one here in Orlando, it was my go-to for Korea goods. One of the best things about a trip to the Lotte was a food court. There were 4 vendors here in this food court, we got something from each. Mom and SO had the dolsot bibimbaps, awesomely served in blazingly hot stone pots so you can get the crusty socarrat at the bottom. Default spice level is SPICY! and I consider myself to be a spice fiend. Definitely, if you want mild, you need to specify clearly. The seafood bibimbap was a nice mix of squid, shrimp, mussels and bay scallops (you know, the frozen seafood medley mix that you can buy in the freezer case just down the aisle over there). There was plenty of rice and crispy carrots, zucchini, and onions and the banchan was plenty zippy (Napa kimchi, daikon) I do love a bibimbap and these did not disappoint. Would put regular grocery shopping here on my to-do list just so I can get my K-fix while I'm here. read more
