The politeness will be there initially, but as time wanes, their patience tires and they just want their commission and to move on. This time around, we opted to go with Redfin's business model of salaried employees and work with Peggy Papazaharias. From the very beginning, we couldn't have appreciated a better agent. Throughout our 1+ year of looking for a property in multiple towns 10+ miles apart, Peggy was sweet, polite and attentive. On tours of homes, she would actually help point out things in the home to watch out for and houses to downright just avoid. Most agents would try to spin things for the positive, to try and get you to buy the property. She never once lost her patience. If she was not available to tour a house with us, she would ask one of her colleagues to attend with us. We actually felt like we built a personal relationship with Peggy who we are more than willing to work with again. She made the whole process a lot smoother and pleasant. Even after we had gone in contract, she had consistently dropped us emails or text messages to see how things were going. I've seen one too many times where other agents start to lose interest once the contract was signed. If somebody wasn't responding, whether it be the seller, buyer's attorney, seller's attorney, mortgage broker, or title company; she'd try and reach out for us. We had a good idea of potential real estate brokers and title companies we wanted to work with. Rest assured, I did my homework, creating spreadsheets and spreadsheets of all the good faith estimate fees the banks/mortgage brokers and title companies charged. But once she gave us her recommendations, we wholeheartedly trusted her advice and opted to work with those companies. Long story short, if you want to skip all the legwork and research, take Peggy's recommendations. We wound up saving a very considerable amount from closing fees. Her guidance and advice throughout the process was invaluable and nothing but positive experiences. If you're looking to buy a property around Long Island, New York and are considering breaking away from working with a traditional real estate agent, I'd recommend working with Peggy from Redfin. Talked to Theresa Ellisworth a day after I moved and she said all that she was deducting from the deposit was 75.00 for carpet cleaning. That's a lie...It took several phone calls and the threat of a lawsuit to get SOME of my money back. She even lied about the condition of the apartment and did not send a BILL..She sent an estimate and deducted the money from my deposit...45 days later I get a estimate saying hair in drawers, stove and dishwasher not cleaned...I never used the stove or the old thrown up dishwasher. The sad part is that she already told me that she had to wait for some money to put in her account so she could refund my deposit...what does that tell you? Raffaele was extremely helpful in showings us all the different houses we looked at. We probably ended up seeing nearly 70 houses, but he was extremely patient and never tried to push us towards anything. He was fairly knowledgeable about the inner workings of houses and was able to spot a few problem areas in different houses. He was available pretty much any time we needed him and was generally successful in scheduling all the appointments we requested. Michael helped us with the negotiations, getting an inspection, and some of the other critical stuff once we found the house we wanted to buy. Redfin's website is really great for searching for houses and setting up a search criteria to email you updates daily. It's organized nicely and is very user-friendly. Plus there's the big cash rebate you get at the end - that's obviously a huge bonus.
