During the Temperance movement and before the Prohibition Era she was known to go to taverns and break up the alcohol and beer kegs by way of an ax. The area her home is in is really quaint and I loved all of the eccentric cottages along the winding road. The house was not open and I didn't see anywhere to park. I parked off up the road and walked back to view the house. The house is right on top of the street and the back of the house has a drop off a cliff of some sorts. I'm glad I stopped by, but wish I could have explored further.

Crescent Hotel was featured on Taps, and ghost hunters it's also known to be the most haunted hotel in the US - I won't give out secrets you'll have to take a tour yourself. The decor is left pretty much in the old style but it did not have an old smell to It at all. I love how the front desk still has the old mail boxes and cash register. Upon arrival, we were told the first tour would begin at 10:00 a.m., but it did not actually leave until 10:20 a.m. because the group had to wait for late arrivals. Once they arrived, the tour was delayed further so they could return to their cars to get coats. The tour itself was expected to last one hour, but it extended to over an hour and a half due to frequent stops and off-topic discussions. Very little time was spent covering the actual history of the cave or its Civil War significance, which is the primary reason we chose this tour. Instead, the guide spoke extensively about working as a park ranger in New Mexico for the federal government, Roswell, and other caves in other states. While this may be interesting in a different setting, it felt unrelated and distracting given the advertised focus of this tour. Additionally, the guide stated he would not take photos for guests using their phones, explaining that a phone could go into the water. At the time, we were on a stable walkway, and this restriction felt unnecessary. Overall, the experience did not deliver on the Civil War history advertised, and the lack of focus, delays, and extended runtime made the tour frustrating. It was not worth the $33.95 per person for the two of us. We would not choose to attend again and would not recommend it to visitors seeking an educational Civil War-focused cave tour.

We arrived very early for our scheduled tour, so decided to tour the outside of the building and take some photographs. A very cordial staff member came outside and invited us into the lobby to await our tour time. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. However, there were parts of the tour where background noise made it difficult to hear her. I would recommend anyone with any hearing impairment stay close to the guide to ensure you can hear the narration. Overall, we really enjoyed the tour and would love to revisit for one of the "ghost tours" on offer.

Her very first words were, "Why are you here?" -- no greeting, no courtesy, just instant hostility. We were only there to take a quick photo of the outside and look at the grounds, as we were considering renting the venue for a wedding. We're from out of town and were in the area just for the weekend, but she immediately accused us of trespassing instead of simply asking what we needed. To make things worse, she blocked the driveway so we couldn't turn around properly, forcing us to back through the grass rather than letting us move forward a couple of feet to the wider part of the drive. I'm also quite sure her behavior was influenced by my alternative haircut and color, which made the experience feel even more judgmental and discriminatory. We will never come back here or recommend this place to anyone.

There is so much information about what led up to the battle and who fought at this site as well as its place in the Civil War timeline. This is the site of the first Union general killed in action as well as the first Civil War battle that took place West of the Mississippi River. I did the Junior Ranger packet to obtain my free badge and watched the film. I chatted so long with Ranger Clayton Hanson about the Civil War and racism that his colleagues had to basically kick us out because they had the gate to the gift shop already down! It's great to chat with rangers who are passionate about their post. There was no entrance fee at this site. Visited December 2024

The first time I went was with my husband and son. We took a guided tour of the home and I was thrilled with the knowledge of our guide and experience in general. The second time I went I was alone. I honesty was on a trip to southern Missouri and wanted to take a small hike on the trail and pick up some prints. They carry prints of Rose's fine art that can't be found anywhere else. I had a lovely hike through the woods and was able to take home some of these very rare prints. I can't thank the Bonniebrook society enough. Thank you for keeping Rose's legacy alive.

Two ladies took our seats we had been sitting in. Another lady took my brother's seat. We told her she was in our seat and she didn't care. My brother who is large sat next to the large lady that took his seat. We found an empty seat. So those three ladies and man who had two seats before the stop, took 3 seats after the stop. Don't know if I will ever do the bus again. Oh and my brother left a bottle of water in his seat and someone still took his seat!
